This week on Ancient and Modern: Composer Jonathan Berger and Librettist Harriet Scott Chessman created their monodrama - My Lai - in 2015. the story is of Hugh Thompson Jr. who was the Army helicopter pilot who blew the whistle on the My Lai Massacre in March of 1968. In 1998 he and his crewmates received the US Army Soldier's Award for their actions. He also suffered severe post traumatic stress disorder. Still, he remained an army helicopter pilot for another decade and a half, and then continued to fly as a civilian. He died of cancer in a Louisiana hospital in 2006.

Berger and Chessman's - My Lai - is an Opera for one singer,- shuttling between events in 1968 - and Officer Thompson’s recollections and hallucinations in his hospital bed - in 2006.

The tenor is Rinde Eckert, Van-Anh Vanessa Vo plays traditional vietnamese instruments, along with music by the Kronos Quartet.
