Hollywood, listen to me. Do not re-make Steve McQueen's masterpiece 1968 film "Bullitt". Oh sure, Steven Spielberg (directing) and Bradley Cooper (as Detective Frank Bullitt - McQueen's role in the first and definitive "Bullitt" movie) might bring in better special effects and C

"Hit him in the leg? Wing him? No sir, it isn't reasonable to ask even a cop or soldier to be Annie Oakley with precision bullet placement in close quarters with a pistol. In fact, studies of home break-ins where the owner uses a firearm demonstrate time and again that usually the homeowner misses hitting the intruder. The "BOOM" is enough to scare off the bad guy nine times out of ten."

Common Sense Ohio

The country is spellbound over the legal status of an armed civilian who stopped a late night robbery by a gun-wielding felon at a Houston taco shop. He shot the crook in the back several times killing him. Some say it was too much force, just hit him in the leg or let him go out the door. I say,

Rob Muse is the co-founder and Senior counselor at the American Freedom Law Center.

The American Freedom Law Center is a national nonprofit public interest law firm. The firm specializes in public interest cases, typically involving substantive First Amendment issues relating to the rights to free speech, freedom of association, and religious exercise. The organization is celebrating its 10th year, but the founders have over 20 years of non-profit civil rights litigation.

American Freedom Law Center is a 501(C)(3) organization, providing pro bono legal services across the country, literally from Massachusetts to Hawaii. For funding, the Center relies on attorney fee awards from successful civil rights cases, along with private contributions.

The Center believes that much of what has affected our culture negatively has occurred through the courts and not through the Democratic process. Though the Center has individual clients, its cases generally have broad public interest. Our courts have stressed time and again that upholding the constitutional rights of one party is the same as defending the constitutional rights of all.

Rob was an infantry officer in the Marine Corps for 13 years. But recognizing that the fight for our Constitutional liberties and freedoms was being waged domestically in United States courtrooms, Rob decided to hang up his pack and rifle and get a law degree. He left his active-duty career as a Marine infantry officer. But he did not give up the fight for freedom and liberty, he merely changed battlefields. His new battlefield can be found in courtrooms throughout the United States. Rob often describes himself not as a lawyer, but as a Marine with a law degree. That's how he approaches litigation, describing the Center’s litigation as “Lawfare.”

City of Columbus Riot Settlements - What Do They Really Mean?

https://www.channel511.com/lawyer-talk-off-the-record

The City of Columbus reaches a $5.75M settlement with people injured during 2020 protests with the plaintiffs in the case Alsaada v. City of Columbus. The case stems from the 2020 summer Black Lives Matter protests in the city.

As part of this settlement, the City will also abide by a permanent injunction barring the use of non-lethal weapons, chemical agents, and police tactics against peaceful protestors. Subject to City Council approval, the City of Columbus has agreed to deliver a settlement of $5,750,000. The funds to pay for this settlement, if passed, will come from the City’s General Fund Account.

We talk more about this, and the long-term ramifications.

Lawyer Talk Q&A - Legal Court Fees

https://www.channel511.com/lawyer-talk-off-the-record

The Question.

If I end up going to court and I win, can I claim back my legal costs?

The Answer.

So the idea here is this individual wants to go to court either civilly or criminally (and I'm going to comment on both because there's a huge difference). They want to know if they win the case, can they get back their court costs.

It's sort of a broad question, and it's going to require a little bit of unpacking and breakdown.

Lawyer Talk Q&A - Does The Court Of Appeals Get The Entire Court Record On Appeal?

I'm working on lots of appellate work these days. This is where people have been convicted by trial by jury, otherwise, sometimes just a judge, and now they want to appeal their conviction and try to get it reversed.

I am talking here today about something called a direct appeal. This is where you're challenging the legal mistakes, the errors that occur during your trial at the trial court level.

The question - will the court of appeals get the entire trial court record on appeal, leading to general discussion about direct appeals?

What is going on with the lack of over-the-road truck drivers? Is it a CDL issue?

Questions from the Blitz Nation are across the board, including questions about evictions, from both the homeowner and renter. Childcare, and behavior forms not being filed. And a custody question about taking the kids out of the country on vacation.

Lawyer Talk Legal Breakdown - The Rittenhouse Pre-Trial Rulings

https://www.channel511.com/lawyer-talk-off-the-record

Through the normal of flow of justice, pre-trial rulings are held to resolve particular legal issues that need to be dealt with before the trial begins. At the pre-trial hearing, the court may make a ruling if it has given the parties an opportunity to be heard, and it appears to the court that the ruling is in the interests of justice.

In this episode of Legal Breakdown, Steve explains the pre-trial rulings from Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder in the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial.

Why "victims" can't be used, but "rioters" and "looters" can be. Is it unfair for the prosecution? Or does it give the defendant his constitutional rights to continue to be "innocent until proven guilty."

The Channel 511 Story

Channel 511 began as a podcast that needed an audio and video production studio. From there, the founders began to assemble a team to help their podcast grow. They sought help from a professional photographer, videographer, and web designer. They identified a graphic designer to help with their logo work. Before long, they realized that they had assembled an entire marketing team in one place. From podcast recording to web and social media marketing, they had all of the resources they needed to market their own businesses.

The founders have extensive experience as entrepreneurs, attorneys, and small business owners. They immediately saw the value in what they had assembled —a simplified solution to start-up and small business marketing. What began as a cool place for a podcast grew into a full blown small business and marketing firm.

We have experienced the frustration of building web pages, working with designers, and establishing a profitable business. Our goal at Channel 511 is to help other entrepreneurs and businesses cut through these frustrations by offering a simplified approach to media and marketing.
