PSA: For those of you that complain that the weather interruptions are an inconvenience, especially during game time, just know, many in the City of Perry won't be watching the game tonight, and their normal lives have been turned upside down.

Even though it didn't affect you, you live in a certain television market. But, no matter where you live, the FCC states that OTA stations must break in for tornado warnings by law.

Be thankful the interruptions saved those who watched, as the city's tornado siren was reportedly destroyed as the tornado came through. Not to mention, the tornado warning was issued AFTER the tornado hit the city.

There was literally no warning except for the meteorologists that gave a heads up.

If you hate it so much, buy a NOAA Weather Radio and switch to streaming.

Thank you.

LATEST INFORMATION AS OF 6:00 AM WEDNESDAY

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has forecasted an Enhanced risk of severe weather for today, Wednesday the 26th for much of lower MI. We could see isolated tornadoes, damaging winds of 65 mph or higher, and large hail of 1 inch or greater. The threat today, at least on the tornado side of things,....

07/26/2023

The SPC has kept all of Southeastern Michigan and Mid-Michigan under their respective Enhanced/Slight risks. The Enhanced Risk contains the higher tornado and wind threat.

The timing appears to be from 2pm to 9pm.

Any supercell that forms ahead of the line will be in an environment capable of producing a tornado or two.

We will keep an eye on things as the SPC notes that model soundings show parts of Lower MI in the ENH area having afternoon CAPE values at or near 3000 J/kg, in other terms, an abundant amount of fuel for storms.

Today has been declared a Weather Authority Alert Day.

A Slight and Enhanced Risk of severe weather is forecasted for Wednesday, July 26th.

The Slight Risk area and southward includes an elevated tornado risk, with a couple of tornadoes possible.

Stay tuned for more information.

And on that note, the cold front is about to pass, if it has not already, thus ending our severe weather risk completely.

Today was unfortunately an educational lesson for some, as we know that when severe weather doesn't pan out repeatedly, we start to think it's not serious and brush off the warnings.

However we unfortunately had the ingredients in play for large, large hail today, which did pan out and caused damage that I personally have not seen around here ever before.

We have to remember, severe weather has its cycles of bringing MI more intense weather (Last notable EF5 was 1953!)
I am a big advocate of owning a NOAA Weather Radio and staying informed as it can save your life.

The next possible event will be around the latter half of our weekend with a disturbance entering the area. Stay tuned.

SPC Day 1 Outlook has all of southeastern, the thumb, mid, portions of western and northern Michigan in a Slight Risk. The SPC has outlined a portion of the area in a Significant Hail risk (2" or greater.)

On the tornadic side of things, the aforementioned slight area also has a 2% tornado risk, however Nadocast shows a 5% risk for the SE MI area.

Storms will start out as scattered cells, possibly supercell, before an intense MCS line moves through.

Damaging Wind, Large/Significant Hail and a Few Tornadoes are all possible.

Remain alert for coming watches and later warnings.

Apologies for yesterday's lack of posting, as work was about when we had this all happen.

Skies are clearing out across much of the state, and this may lead to a severe weather threat this afternoon/evening.

With semi-numerous funnel clouds being spotted today, and with Saginaw County police spotting one and activating county sirens, I would like to let you know that these funnel clouds are harmless and present no danger.

Today's funnel clouds are called "Cold Air Funnels." Cold Air Funnels form when the air aloft is colder than normal, and do not require strong wind shear, thus they rarely touch the ground,

However, if they do touch down, you can expect winds of 50+ mph, but lower than 90 mph. Light damage may occur but nothing serious.

But as always, do report all funnel cloud sightings to either 911 or the National Weather Service.
