A: Just before 8:30 this morning, we lost the connection from Broadcast House to the Barringer Building as part of a wider outage. We are told they are working on it.

In the meantime, you can hear Columbia's Independent Alternative on yoru smart speaker, smartphone throgh TuneIn or wxryfm.org. Or on 98.1 WXNE Pontiac (Columbia Northeast/Blythewood/Lugoff) or 99.1 Seven Oaks (Ballentine/Chapin/Irmo).

Or, as Depeche Mode says, you can Enjoy the Silence and watch "Suki Waterhouse" scroll by on the screen.

City of Columbia has opened a shelter for residents without power.

The City of Columbia has opened Greenview Park, 6700 David St., this evening, September 28, 2024, as a temporary shelter for residents without power. The shelter will open up at 6:00 p.m. this evening and will remain open until further notice.

Greenview Park is set-up to accommodate 50 residents with the capacity to expand if needed. The City of Columbia will provide 50 cots with a pillow, blanket, emergency hygiene kit, and water. Residents are encouraged to bring their own toiletry items, additional pillows/blankets, and any medications or necessary items they may need.

Share the availability of the temporary shelter with elderly neighbors or individuals with medical needs/devices that require electricity, and

It's our Best of the Modern Rock Era weekend, playing the roots of "Alternative" from the days when no one had heard of any of these artists and it wasn't played on the radio except for college stations and "the underground" rock stations. And we passed cassette mix tapes around. Then came MTV...
