HURRICANE SEASON OFFICIALLY ENDS TODAY! ๐ŸŒ€
4th most active season on record in the Atlantic with 20 storms, including 7 hurricanes (3 of which were major hurricanes). Most impactful hurricane was Idalia as it made landfall as a Category 3 with 125 mph wind in Florida. It is tied as the strongest hurricane on record in the "Big Bend" region of the state and brought as high as 12 feet of storm surge. The storm also produced 2 - 4 feet of surge and 6"+ of rain in Southwest Florida despite dodging a direct hit. Hurricane Lee was the most powerful of the season, reaching Category 5 intensity with 165 mph wind over open water. El Niรฑo is one of the reasons why this year, not all, but most activity stayed over the open Atlantic as "fish storms." Thank you for trusting WINK News as your #1 source for hurricane updates in Southwest Florida all season long. Enjoy the tropical off-season!

We know everyone is asking when the bridges will be reopened. Hereโ€™s the latest:
Bridges to the barrier islands will all be reopened at the same time. We expect that to be Wed evening because clean up is continuing in some areas. Once all floodwaters have receded, the roads still have to be cleared of hazards.
FDOT crews are actively clearing sections of Gulf Blvd where the floodwaters have already subsided.
We will let you know as soon as the bridges are reopened. If you want to be updated by phone, sign up for Alert Pinellas or check this website for the latest information: disaster.pinellas.gov.
