The project, developed by a collection of musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds and ethnic groups, is designed to be a musical incubator and operational sound studio for talent development. Musicians who choose to participate in USS can barter time and talents for their own recording time and supplies. USS provides "one stop shopping" for all your live music needs – from bands (reggae, rock,
gospel, blues, folk, r&b, contemporary Christian) to in-studio recording, to sound system and technician rental. Full Service Recording Studio - digital recording that allows master to be produced directly from the board16-44 track mixed down, 4 Band EQ to build up and balance sound, one compressor per channel, Dynamics Processor combined with effects that can be layered, Mackie 16 track 8 buss recording board equipped with 16 pre-amps, line in and output allowing us to get a clean sound to digitally record and store music. A personal note from USS director Tim Williams:
The musicians committed to USS represent a variety of socio economic groups. Our families, communities, and city are effected by the belief systems that the men and women in these social settings perpetuate. There are many parentless children moving around these streets today because people can create babies but are not able to be responsible parents. Many of us have not been properly parented. I have found that many of us use drugs, s*x and violence (physical, verbal and emotional) to mask our inability to communicate what we feel. People are supposed to experience difficult times. It is through the difficulties that we learn our limitations. Our culture sometimes dictates to us a sense of pride that is destructive in that it does not allow us to be humbled. 'God resists the proud but embraces the humble'. Through our cultures we are allowed to mask the broken empty places of difficulty. As gifted musicians God allows us a unique way to express what we feel without having to succomb to our circumstances. The gift of music is a tool which can be used to refresh the spirit, renew the mind if used in connection to The Giver - God. Our goal through Urban Sound is to help people get in touch with the Creator. We believe that if we know where we are from, only then can we navigate through life's barriers without using and destroying people, families and communities.
