The image - a Northern Flicker in Yellowstone

From the Photographer: Spring of 2017, despite a violent act by someone close to me, I pushed on. This is where PTSD really took hold. I slept on the couch for 9 months, barely getting a wink, so scared for my own safety. Though I have hinted at the tough times over the years, today is the first day I have shared these details. I am at a point where I can let them go to dissipate into the atmosphere. The worst part about violence for me was loosing all sense of control. Completely rocked me. However, Nature has helped me understand that my role is as important as any creatures. And with one Life to live, well I am living it!

The image - a Northern Flicker in Yellowstone in their nest cavity. Over the years I have seen different woodpeckers claim this hole in this very tree. To this day, I stop to check it. Taken from as far as I could get away, with a 600mm lens, and cropped for effect. I would never jeopardize a nesting bird. They are so very important to our continued existence.

From the Photographer: Bald Eagles Decisive Moment. Look closely!

A Bald Eagle steals a fish during a high-speed chase over Kachemak Bay. Most Eagles drop their prized fish just as they are about to get slammed by another Eagle.

120 frames per second doesn’t change everything, but it makes capturing split-second events much more effortless!

I used my Sony a9 III paired with the Sony 600 f/4 and 1.4X Tele-converter and waited for Eagles to chase each other. Imagine if their wings were spread wider and the light was still golden….. I guess I will have to return to Alaska again - smile! Photo Credit: Christopher Dodds Nature Photographer

From the Photographer: Story behind this photo is, I had just entered New Mexico somewhere from the N. Eastern part of Arizona. I can't be certain it is actually in New Mexico but I believe it is as I recall being back in the 505 area code. Anyhoot, this photo was originally a wide landscape picture. While playing with resizing it in PS, I resized it incorectly and it shrunk to this. In looking at it I realized I really thought it looked good (odd at best) so I kept it this way. Since I am terrible in my organizational skills I can't for the life of me find the original photo. If I am asked to remove it I will gladly do so. It's pretty though. Probably taken between 2017 and 2019. Photo Credit: Joe Grimando
