88.7 WPCD (Parkland College District) is an indie/alternative/punk rock station serving the Champaign-Urbana listening area and beyond. With a massive signal output, WPCD reaches listeners across central Illinois and into parts of western Indiana. At any one time, 88.7 can reach over 200,000 listeners, not including an online listening stream. Based out of Parkland College, the station has worked
with The Pitchfork Music Festival radio campaign in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 and has helped promote Champaign-Urbana's very own Pygmalion Music Festival as one of the presenting sponsors in 2011. Other notable past music affiliations include Daytrotter's Barnstormer concert series and SXSW Music Fest 2009.
88.7 and Parkland College have also hosted several concerts and artist performances including Matt and Kim, So Many Dynamos, Empires, and This Providence. Formerly known as "The Wave" the station dropped its longtime name in early 2011 and is now known simply as 88.7 WPCD FM, eighty-eight seven, or WPCD.

Geekin' with Geiken - the geekiest show on WPCD is moving to Fridays at 8:30 am. Join station director Deane Geiken as he and helmsman, Rob Goode navigate the USS Geekerprise around the galaxy, exploring the many worlds of geek and nerd culture and events. The return of the LOCAL HOUR! Tune in on Saturday nights from 9 - 10 pm with DJ host Henri Turner to hear some of the newest and best music from local artists from all over central Illinois! You still have time to sign up for COM 141, and become a part of our little community at WPCD in which you can explore all of that, and not only get to have fun with what you love, but learn the tech and learn to talk to an audience. If you're shy, you'll learn to break out of that shell! COM 141 is an opportunity you won't find anywhere else.
If you or anyone you known is looking for a fun and unique elective to fill up a spot in the Spring semester schedule, our COM 141 has a late start date beginning next week and we have spots still available! Sign up or spread the word to join in on the station and all of the fun we have!

Calling all Central Illinois bands! We are trying to revive our Local Music Hour here at WPCD and we need your music! If you have any music that you have produced in the last year or so, we would love it if you shared it with us! It can be any genre but it must be your original work, be FCC clean (or at least edited) and be produced reasonably well.
If you are willing to share your music with us, please send downloads or links to [email protected].
Please include in the subject line, "WPCD Local Music Submission" and in the body of the email, the name of your band, where you are from, when the submitted music was produced, and anything else you would like us to know!

It was a while back in 2021 when Gina Miles (pictured on left) came to the WPCD studios to premier her first song "Fever" on the station. Well, fast forward a few years ago and look who is killing it on the show "The Voice!" A native of Paxton Il. and incredibly talented, WPCD is happy to say we knew her when she was just getting started and we are incredibly proud of where she is now! Her original song, "Fever" is still playing in our rotation and we hope that when all is said and done at "The Voice" we can invite her back to the studio to catch up! Next week, she competes in the voting round and we wish her the best of luck!

All classes, programs, and services have been cancelled at Parkland College for Wednesday, January 25. All offices are closed as well. This notice includes classes at Area Learning Centers and the CDC. All access roads to campus will be closed, as well as no service by the MTD.

In COM 141: Basic Broadcast Announcing you can build the groundwork for audio technical skills using the latest software and equipment needed to succeed in any sort of media production; be it podcasting, streaming, news and sports reporting, radio DJ, or working in careers requiring knowledge of audio production. WPCD FM 88.7 is the educational, non-commercial radio station of Parkland College. 88.7 broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with an indie/alternative rock format. It serves as a hands-on learning lab for students in COM 141 and 142. Students hone their skills by working at WPCD in a variety of capacities. Our power of 10,500 watts covers all of Parkland College’s District 505 area and much of East Central Illinois, including Danville, Decatur, Rantoul, Bloomington, and all of Champaign-Urbana, reaching close to 200,000 people. WPCD also streams worldwide on the Internet.
