A heavy police response has been called to a home on Reed St, off of SE Maynard Rd.

Cary Police tell us:

"Police have responded to an apparent su***de attempt involving a firearm. The individual is being transported in critical condition."

Citizens might remember Cary Police were recently called to Stone St. on 4/24 in response to a domestic disturbance, which resulted in a lockdown situation at East Cary Magnet Middle School. While the two locations are very close in proximity, Cary Police tell us the two incidents are unrelated, isolated events.

04/24/2024

Edited at 4:10pm: The situation has been resolved and students have been released.

------------‐------

From Cary Police Department, regarding lockdown at East Cary Magnet Middles School:

We are dealing with a domestic-related assault in the 100 block of Stone St. where the suspect fled into the woodline prior to police arriving on the scene. This location is ½ mile from the school. Out of an abundance of caution, we have placed the school on a Code Yellow Lockdown. We do not believe that this individual is a threat to the school in any way, however, given the proximity to the school, the decision was made to initiate the Code Yellow as a precaution.

We continue to follow the story from 618 Dorset Drive in Cary. Here's the latest from Cary Police Department:

Investigators are continuing their investigation into the self-inflicted shooting and body discovery on Dorset Drive. The body that was found inside a homemade firepit has been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner. There, we are hoping to learn the identity, cause, and time of death which will be vital pieces of information for investigators. We do not have a timeline for the ME's process. The homeowner, found in the RV with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, is still hospitalized in critical condition. We are not releasing his name at this time due to family notifications. We are also not releasing the name of the female found unharmed on the property due to the investigative process. There have been numerous requests for the release of 911 recordings. Personnel are currently working to compile that data and we anticipate releasing them later this evening. This is still an active investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Cary Police at (919) 469-4012.
