LOVING, NM - Undersheriff Matthew Hutchinson reports, Crime Stoppers of Eddy County and the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office requests your assistance locating Daniel Diaz.

Daniel Diaz currently has an active arrest warrant for Aggravated Stalking, Aggravated Battery against a Household Member, Robbery and Tampering with Evidence.

Daniel Diaz stands approximately 5’5” and weighs approximately 190 lbs. Daniel Diaz has black hair and green eyes.

Diaz is expected to be working in the Texas area near Odessa, Midland and Fort Stockton.

The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone with information to please come forward. A reward will be offered for any information that leads to the arrest of Daniel Diaz. The incident is being investigated by the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office.

..A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHWESTERN EDDY COUNTY THROUGH
430 PM MDT...

At 341 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Carlsbad Caverns National Park, or 24 miles northeast of Pine Springs, moving southeast at 5 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Whites City.

As the Village of Ruidoso moves towards re-entry for residents Monday morning at 8:00 AM, we want to make it clear that there are “NO ENTRY/EXCLUSION ZONES” that will not be accessible to residents, as they are currently considered crime scenes. There are recovery efforts going on in these areas, and until they are cleared by USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) canine strike teams, people cannot be in these areas. There are currently two confirmed fatalities, and the USAR teams have identified potential fatalities that could be added to this number. These areas will be secured by officers, and residents will not be allowed to enter until the area is cleared.

Please keep in mind that there are individuals that are unaccounted for. If you called the EOC Phone Bank and reported that you were unable to make contact with someone and have since made contact with them, please call the EOC Phone Bank at 575-258-6900 and let us know so that we can remove them from the welfare check list.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will only be able to gain access to re-enter the Village of Ruidoso from the entry point at the Y via either HWY 70 East (from Roswell) or HWY 70 West (from Tularosa via Carrizozo). The north entry point via HWY 48 will be closed at Gavilan Canyon because the area south of that is an Exclusion Zone and you will NOT be able to pass into that area.

After careful consideration, the Mayor and the Village Council have decided to allow residents back into Ruidoso at 8:00 AM on Monday, June 24th.

Here are a few things to know about re-entry:

1. Re-entry will be for LOCAL, FULL-TIME residents only at this time. You will be required to show proof of residency.

2. The VOR is asking that 2nd homeowners and tourists refrain from coming to Ruidoso to give residents time to get back to their properties and survey any needs or damages.

3. Please bring at least a week's worth of food and drinking water as grocery stores are not operating at full capacity.

4. Due to the events of the past week, you may arrive to find that your home has no gas, no electricity, and no water. If your home has no power, your refrigerator will not be working. You can check the outage maps at PNM.com and ZNGC.com

5. There is no childcare available.

6. If you have breathing issues including asthma or COPD, you may find that you cannot tolerate the ash, smoke, and soot that are in the air.

7. We currently have a Boil Water Advisory in place which is normal after a natural disaster. If any of our systems are found to be compromised, there is the possibility for a mandatory Boil Water Order.

We hope that you will help us make this process smooth. Please remember that we are here to help you, and at the same time, we want to ensure your safety and the safety of everyone's property.

Donald Sutherland, the beloved actor who starred in scores of films from The Dirty Dozen, MASH and Klute to Animal House and Ordinary People to Pride & Prejudice and The Hunger Games franchise and won an Emmy for Citizen X, died Thursday, June 20 in Miami after a long illness. He was 88.

RUIDOSO, NM - The South Fork fire is estimated at 15,276 acres and is zero percent contained. Fire activity included crowning and long-range spotting, which increased the fire’s footprint from this morning’s acreage total. Today, response crews were able to directly engage areas of the fire’s footprint when conditions allowed. Approximately 1,400 structures in the area have been lost.

The South Fork Fire was discovered at 9 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2024; it is burning on Mescalero Tribal land, US Forest Service land and within the areas surrounding Ruidoso. Fire growth has been rapid with extreme fire behavior. Long range spotting and intense heat with plume domination. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

MESCALERO, N.M. — The South Fork Fire has grown to more than 13,900 acres and is at 0% containment. That update from the New Mexico Forestry Division came Tuesday morning, June 18. It also stated approximately 500 structures have been lost with multiple other structures being threatened.

The state Forestry Division is also concerned with increasing winds pushing the fire toward the east. New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham made the decision to declare a State of Emergency for the South Fork and Salt Fires. The executive order was put into effect Tuesday morning, June 18. The village of Ruidoso is under evacuation orders for the South Fork Fire.

The Village says residents should evacuate immediately and not take any belongings or try to protect their homes. The evacuation route is on Sudderth Drive to Highway 70 and out to Roswell. The fire started Monday afternoon near Mescalero at South Fork Canyon. It has burned at least 13,921 acres, according to the New Mexico Forestry Division on Tuesday morning.

Ruidoso, N.M. — Residents of a village in southern New Mexico were ordered to flee their homes Monday without even taking time to grab any belongings due to a fast-moving wildfire.

"GO NOW: Do not attempt to gather belongings or protect your home. Evacuate immediately," officials with Ruidoso, home to 7,000 people, said on its website and in social media posts at about 7 p.m.

Public Service Company of New Mexico shut off electricity to part of the village due to the fire, which had grown to at least 2 square miles at the time the evacuation was ordered, KOAT-TV reported. The utility said it cut power to some 2,000 homes and businesses but they should have cleared out anyway.
