Rolling roadblocks on Mountain Parkway in Powell County Sunday morning, June 30

JACKSON, Ky. – Drivers who use the Mountain Parkway between Stanton and Slade in Powell County should prepare for a brief road closure on Sunday morning, June 30.

In order to allow for repairs to be made to an overhead cable, rolling roadblocks will be in effect between 8 and 9 a.m. between milepoints 24 and 25.

Law enforcement personnel will be on site to assist with traffic control. Signs will be in place to alert drivers of the closure.

The exact location of the work is just west of the KY 11/KY 15 overpass near Rosslyn.

Drivers may wish to detour between Exit 22 at Stanton and Exit 33 at Slade via KY 213 and KY 11/KY 15.

Wolfe County High School, in conjuction with the Wolfe County Sheriff's Department and other first responders, has a mock crash scheduled for around noon today (April 16th). Local residents should expect a large police, fire, and medical presence during that time, as well as increased scanner traffic.

This event is a drill, and no cause for alarm.

Wolfe County Search and Rescue Gorge Operations Training

Wolfe County Search and Rescue and the Kentucky Air National Guard finished up a three day training exercise on Friday with insertions and extractions at various locations in the Red River Gorge. This short clip was shot from the Chimney Rock Overlook.

*Attention residents of Rogers and Pine Ridge* If you have noticed low flying helicopters in the area this evening, don't be alarmed. The Kentucky Air National Guard has partnered with the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team for a joint training exercise. Here's a short video of a portion of the training.
