A brutal storm hit us opening weekend but we didn’t let that slow us a down a bit. We kept our glass on the mountain and found em yesterday. A couple crazy wide open stalks and one of the best shots I’ve ever seen resulted in a pair of punched tags. Yep boys, we did er again... another hunting story to tell the rest of our lives. I live for days like this.

The mustache force is strong with this group. We sent it today and came damn close to punching some elk tags. Hiking 6 miles in the freezing country that is Montana was a tough go today. The frozen breath staches were on point!

I’m a little late on this but it’s Best purchase America ever made from the Russians. Over the course of the 41 trips I’ve made up North there just aren’t words to explain how special Alaska really is. From caribou/grizz hunts above the Arctic circle to buffalo hunts way down the peninsula and a handful of seasons guiding fishing The 49th state is a legit as they come.
Wild. Vast. Hearty. Dangerous. Breathtaking. Happy Alaska day👊🏻🤘🏻

On a beautiful beach in Alaska next to a very special river I bent the knee and asked her if she would marry me. I’ve worked hard to bring some big smiles to her face but I’ve never seen her smile this big and bright. I still can’t believe she said yes and found me worthy enough to receive her love. Life is so good and it’s going to be the ride of my life with by my side❤️

There’s some moments in time on a river that will never leave you. This right here was the fish of the year for me. landed her first steelhead in our favorite state. Completely and totally unforgettable time spent together. As a tribute to my black Steve who I’m sure played a part in it (his first fishing trip and most favorite fish were steelies) we took a moment and a nip of whiskey for him and for the river and poured some of his ashes in..
It was a powerful sequence of events. I couldn’t imagine a better spot for part of him. Amidst hugs and tears we savored it and took it all in. Some days are simply better than others and this was one of the best days of my life.

to my first Sitka Blacktail. The debate ends here for me regarding the most delicious wild game meat. They are out of this world delicious and tender. I’ve got to get my ass back to that remote AK island and hunt these deer again. Anybody out there care to join me this fall?

As a proud ambassador for the time has come again to make your voice heard. Head over to their page and you can find the link in the bio. It only takes 15 seconds to do. I can’t think of a better way today to spend that time. The reality is this fight will never end. So it’s our duty to stay diligent and proactive fighting this battle. Thank you in advance for your signature.

Still hopeful I can pull a tag here in MT for the chance to hunt one of these again. They are one of the coolest game animals in the West.

I’m glad little Bodhi and of course Finn and I squeezed in as much river time as we did this spring. Family time on MT rivers is a treasure that fills you up and spans the distance of being away from each other. I’m a lucky man to have them be so loving. I already miss the morning puppy kisses, Finns’ patient kindness and Fiona’s sassy ways. Having a woman support your dreams and passion in life is powerful. Fiona is the best I know at it. I’m more grateful for this life with my furry and sassy family everyday. Distance really does make the heart grow fonder.

I’m blasting tomorrow for another season in AK. Being in queue is one of the worst places to be in life. Hurry up and wait and powerless over the outcome. I have many friends who lost their season completely this year. For them my heart goes out and breaks a little bit. Life is short and missing a season loaded with memories like this photo of Cathy and I is a tough pill to swallow. The value of time and of a place like Alaska is beyond price. The enrichment that takes place in my soul is indescribable. The rawness of her beauty and temperament commands respect and adoration.
I’m grateful to be going back up to share it and spend more of my days in my most favorite place on earth. I have a new perspective and appreciating for the days ahead. ✌🏻📸

King scissors. On the swing very near the ocean. It’s fascinating to me why some fish turn color so much faster than others. This fish still had lice on it yet looked like it had been in the river system for weeks🤷🏻
I’m always grateful for every grab I get from these fish colored up or not. To me few things compare to a wild fresh Chinook Salmon in Alaska.

so a long day of hiking in the desert heat of Mexico chasing sheep around. We set up a pair of cameras and shot a time lapse of the precipitation pouring into the bottom of the canyon. It was eerie calm and cool. Solitude hits a little different in a desert and I’m not sure why. Sleeping in the desert dirt was a trip. Always hoping a tarantula, scorpion or snake didn’t crawl in the bag with ya. I love the Sonora desert and need to get back there again this year. 🤙🏻

This makes bear number 5 this year that falls into that “slammer” category. The only category of animal at this point in my hunting career I’m interested in trying to kill. Every single one of them live in a hell hole with usually no less than a minimum round trip hike of 5-9 miles. I will leave out the vertical up/downs. It’s hard time consuming work for a polish fat boy like myself. We’ve had 3 opportunities that were within mere seconds of an ethical shot. The uncontrollable variables that play into a hunt make you want to yank the hair out of your head and cuss loudly and frequently. I had three horseback riders pop over the ridge as I had my safety off on this bear🤦‍♂️uncontrollable variables have been the theme this season. Now don’t read me wrong here, I’m not pi***ng and moaning. I know better than that and besides that’s not me. It just gets mentally and physically draining when time and again after a massive effort something comes into play that blows the hard fought opportunity. But hey, that’s life and that’s hunting. I’m not done yet, being stubborn and persistent has led me to some pretty wild victories. Times getting short on the game clock.. only a few matches left to go👊🏻
These old mature boars are worthy animals to pursue.

Spending a pair of days on a new section of river with some outstanding gentlemen was needed. This fish was just a real nice bonus. Streamer eating browns are my favorite and this fish absolutely hammered a pattern. I went from 39 to an 8 year old in 1 second flat. So grateful to share it with and .nolanmt you boys rock🤘🏻

05/06/2020

I went out glassing for a MT bear again lastnight. While spending 3 hours in the glass with my buddy the topic of suffering on hunts came up. We dove down the rabbit hole discussing risk vs reward and what we were willing to go through and endure to achieve success. My buddy shared some of his hunting “war”stories and I did the same. The more I thought about some of the s**t I’ve been through I realized the vast majority of it I wasn’t even hunting. Just hu***ng camera gear around freezing, sweating, cursing, laughing and honing my best skill. Mental fortitude. This photo represents the longest coldest period of my life. A couple weeks living in tents hunting spring bears in Alaska. No heat. The only reprieve from the cold was crawling in your sleeping bag when the day was done. It was f**king brutal and totally awesome. Again I wasn’t even hunting. Just hu***ng camera gear around trying to make it look cool😆 I learned a lot. Made some friends I still have to this day and came away with several bad ass stories. The combination of those things made the experience completely worth it to me. I can’t wait until i am in my 70s shooting my mouth off and exaggerating about some of the s**t I’ve seen.
In conclusion the suffering is always worth it. Always. 👊🏻

Got outside and shared some days with some outstanding boys. Still packing my bear tag around although it should be punched but that’s on me. I’ve never valued getting outside more than I did on this trip. So many laughs around the fire and sharing ideas and theories of hunting made it an awesome break from the current state of things. Besides... who really wants to punch their tag opening weekend? Thanks for the time shared .andres

Meet the newest addition to our Montana family! 7 week old super chill female named Bodhi. We traveled over to Idaho through the lolo pass to scoop her up and every mile behind the wheel was worth it to bring this little miss home. I am going to Apologize in advance for the copious amount of lab vids and pics that will be posted. I’m all sorts of Twitterpated❤️
