We are pleased to announce that we recently published a wonderful new book of poetry: Across the Difficult: With Rabia of Basra and Others by Tamam Kahn. Rooted in her research on women from early Islam, Tamam explores the difficulties faced by—and the wisdom emerging through—early Muslim and Sufi women, and women of today who face incredibly trying circumstances. Her is a video of Tamam reading "I'm Telling You."

Rabbi Jack Riemer's review of Jewish End-of-Life Care in a Virtual Age ...."My parents would have said of a book like this, “Mir zol es nisht darfen,” we should not need to have it – but we live at a time when we do need it, and so we should be grateful that these writers who have provided us with guidance on how to help a person recite the vidui in these circumstances; new prayers that can be said from outside a room for those who are not permitted to go inside; how to help a person give thanks when he emerges from the hospital; and many other resources that we never imagined we would need.

The pandemic has changed every aspect of our lives, even the way we become ill and the way we die. We used to lie in the hospital surrounded by our family and friends. Now no one is allowed to be with us for fear of contagion. We used to be buried in a ceremony in which our friends participated in t...

Around 1960, Meshullam Zalman Schachter, a Habad Hasid and Hillel Director at the University of Manitoba, composed and printed what was perhaps the first Jewish meditation manual in English called The First Step, which went on to influence a generation of Jewish spiritual seekers. This being the 60th anniversary of the first printing, Albion-Andalus Books has issued an anniversary edition of the first edition, maintaining the covers, pagination, and typewriter style of the original book. Even today, it is a brilliant introduction to Jewish contemplative life! (https://amzn.to/3dNqWhS)

Liquid Bloom-DJ Set set with Amani Friend ()

For nearly two decades, Amani Friend has also been at the helm of the global-electronic project Liquid Bloom.

Feeling equally at home on the international festival circuit, in the studio, and in the more subtle sonic spaces reserved for intentional ceremonies guided by ancient allies, the wide-ranging collective under the umbrella of the Liquid Bloom project spans distance, time, and dimensions of mind.

As one half of Desert Dwellers, Amani brings his dance floor guidance and experience to harness a deeper, transportive journey, giving as much weight to calm and the serene as to the groove.

As founder of Liquid Bloom, he has guided the project through its many lives, and its many rebirths at the hands of remixers AtYyA, Numatik, and Mose to name a few. The Liquid Bloom experience unfolds in a multitude of incarnations.

Amani is able to craft deep, entrancing journeys during his solo sets.

The Distant Past

The name Albion-Andalus is drawn from the names of two geographic regions from our distant past: Albion, the ancient name of Great Britain, and Al-Andalus, the medieval name of much of Muslim Spain. Both were meeting places of cultures which spawned great creativity. Likewise, Albion and Andalus, or Great Britain and Spain, are the places from which the founder of Albion-Andalus, Netanel Miles-Yépez, received both parts of his surname.
