100% humidity, 14 mph headwinds and 91 degrees at times and only three hours of sleep between riding days not to mention 2,000 miles of training rides, but we successfully completed the 163 mile ride of the Pan-Mass Challenge. This years’ event will raise $75 million.

Thank you to our donors and supporters for your help and encouragement. This year’s route was lined with thousands of supporters that cheered us on. Our family was able to raise
$30,000 to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. It brings our six year total to more than $100,000. Thank you!

For the first time in our six year Pan Mass history, we were able to finish with our riding team, Boston Bruins. Not sure if we are getting faster or they are slowing down but what a thrill
to come across the finish line with the other 25 riders. Through our teams’ efforts, The Boston Bruins will donate more than $250,000 to Dan Farber Cancer Institute.

The Pan Mass Challenge is the world’s largest sports fundraiser. This year we exceeded $1 Billion in lifetime giving to Dan Farber Cancer Institute, one of the world’s leading cancer research facilities.

Once again, thank you for your support. We will be in again next year.

ONE BILLION DOLLARS, yes, $1,000,000,000. After our ride in August, the total fundraising for the Pan Mass Challenge in the last forty-five years will exceed One Billion Dollars. $100,000 of that billion, The Gold Family will have raised in the past six years.

Since we started riding PMC, Dana Farber Cancer Institute has played a pivotal role in more than 51% of the cancer treatments created and administered. Thanks to your generosity and many more like you, Dana Farber Cancer Institute will continue their life saving research.

This coming weekend, once again, Sam, Max, and I will be riding the Pan Mass Challenge. When we first started to participate my family had not been directly touched by cancer. That all changed in 2022 when my son, Sam, was diagnosed with stage 2 head and neck cancer just nine days before our 4th PMC.

As part of his treatment at Dana Farber, Sam underwent a partial glossectomy and neck dissection, followed by six weeks of intense radiation. Unforeseen and though unplanned, as part of his treatment, Sam also experienced emergency surgery on his nose, an overdose on Fentanyl, unplanned opioid withdrawal, a fifty-pound weight loss, and speech/swallow therapy to learn how to eat/drink again.

I cannot express enough how amazing Sam’s team at Dana Farber was throughout his treatment. From the valet parkers to the check-in desk attendants. The doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, radiologists, and research scientists, everyone involved in Sam’s care was truly world-class. The care continues today and is regularly part of Sam’s life for years to come.

I cannot put into words the fear and uncertainty we felt as a family, but Sam’s courage and determination inspired us to push on. In 2022, alongside Sam, Max and I completed the 163-mile ride. With the support of our friends and family, we raised $18,000 that year and doubled that in 2023 with $35,000.

This year, we have set our fundraising goal to $30,000 and I am reaching out to you to ask for your help. 100% of every dollar you donate to our ride will go directly to support the research and teams of these wonderful people at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Sam Gold is LIVING PROOF of the magnificent work accomplished by Dana Farber, and my family and I are committed to supporting their mission.

I never thought that my family would be so closely touched by cancer, but we have been, and it has forever changed us. If you or anyone you know has been affected by cancer, I ask you to please consider donating to our ride in their honor. We will do the physical work, but we cannot do the hard work without your support.

The NFL capped a successful season with over $20 billion in revenue, driven by a record-breaking Super Bowl and a unique equal revenue-sharing system. Each NFL team is set to receive around $400 million from media and sponsorship deals in 2023, thanks to lucrative TV contracts. Here's a deep dive on how various professional sports leagues make money and some of their challenges. For example, MLB heavily relies on local media rights; the NBA is shifting toward the NFL's model with central revenue; the NHL depends on gate receipts; and MLS experienced a revenue boost in 2023. In European football, many clubs are investing in stadium renovations to match the American venue model. hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag

A mystery more than 50 years in the making has been solved. In 1972, Paul McCartney's original Hofner bass, the song that he used on the first two Beatles albums and with which he made countless public concert and TV appearances, was stolen. Last year, after McCartney's urging, the Hofner company put out a public request for help in finding the iconic instrument. Turns out it hadn't traveled very far at all. A person in the south of England had been keeping it in their attic, not knowing of the instrument's history. They contacted McCartney's company and then musician and instrument were reunited. Thus solving one of Rock & Roll's great mysteries. hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag

Melbourne, Australia will see almost 100,000 Taylor Swift fans gather each night the Eras Tour performs there. But none of those in attendance will have been price-gouged by resellers like they typically have been in the U.S. The reason is Australia's Major Events Act of 2009 which prohibits tickets from being resold at exorbitant prices. The Act was an effort to cut down on scalpers and bots getting access to tickets at cost and then reselling at astronomical prices. Hefty fines are implemented for anyone caught scalping. In America, tickets for Swift's shows were being resold for thousands or tens of thousands of dollars by resellers. As with recent legislation in the U.S. about hidden fees, perhaps the live event industry is starting to move towards more favorable terms for ticket buyers. hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag

While live event ticketing has been a source of controversy in the United States, an Australian law keeps tickets affordable and accessible.

For decades, the Pennsylvania Hotel, which sat directly across Seventh Avenue from Madison Square Garden, was once a bustling hotel and place to catch live music of the day. Recently torn down, the site was going to be redeveloped into a 56-story office building with 150-foot tall digital billboards. Those plans have since stalled and the site sits undeveloped in the heart of Manhattan. Now, Vornado Realty Trust is considering transforming the site into a temporary outdoor event space named "Penn Platform." The proposed 80,000-square-foot space could host events such as New York Fashion Week, the U.S. Open, concerts, and soccer matches. Vornado sees the location as strategically central and envisions generating cash flow through temporary uses until development plans progress. hashtag hashtag hashtag

This month's women's NCAA basketball tournament looks like it will be the one to watch this year as it promises a more compelling and star-studded narrative than this year's men's tournament, with standout players like Iowa's Caitlin Clark, South Carolina's Kim Mulkey, and JuJu Watkins taking center stage. Of course, the men's tournament will be packed with great games and incredible performances, but with enticing storylines such as South Carolina's pursuit of an unbeaten season and Dawn Staley's quest for a third title, the women's tournament looks poised to finally capture the attention it deserves with its star power, drama, and storylines. This year, the men will need to make some room in the spotlight for the ladies.

Thanks to Caitlin Clark and other women's star players and programs, NCAA tournament drama this March is decidedly on one end of the gender divide.

Revenue from streaming services is expected to surpass pay TV subscription revenue in the U.S. for the first time in the third quarter of 2024. Streaming overtook pay TV in the number of subscribers in 2016. It is projected that that U.S. pay TV revenue will take the lead in the third quarter, reaching $17.3 billion compared to $16.7 billion for pay TV. The addition of ad tiers, such as those from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ and an increased clampdown on password sharing has contributed to streaming advertising revenue surpassing $9 billion in the U.S. this year. The study also notes the potential for collaboration between streaming services and traditional distribution platforms, citing Disney and Charter's recent deal as an example.

Total streaming revenue will hit $17.3 billion, topping $16.7 billion from pay TV, in the third-quarter of 2024, predicts research firm Ampere Analysis.

Companies with trademarked characters are going to be in a quandary as they figure out how to manage their characters moving into the public domain where they are no longer protected by copyright law. Disney is experiencing that right now as its "Steamboat Willie" character - the first appearance of Mickey Mouse in film - has recently become public domain. Now companies and individuals are using the character in all sorts of ways that, up until recently, would have resulted in immediate threats of lawsuits from Disney. And there appears to be nothing Disney can do about it. Steamboat Willie will soon be featured in a horror movie, a shoot 'em up video game and other ways that will horrify the Disney Corporation. Eventually, all of the iconic characters of Disney and other companies such as Marvel, DC Comics, and others will slide into public domain, presenting major headaches for the current copyright owners and major opportunities for those looking to exploit them.

"Steamboat Willie," the 1928 Mickey Mouse cartoon, is now in the public domain and being used in products and promotions without Disney.

One key takeaway from the recent VenuesNow2023 Conference that seems to be on the minds of venue owners and executives: sustainability. More than just a buzzword, sustainability initiatives are a relatively new but important component of both new venues as they are being planned and older venues looking to be more aligned with modern sustainability practices. Panel guests noted how partnerships have become more meaningful as environmental awareness has become something that more organizations are taking into consideration. Executives encouraged others to start small, but to start somewhere. And others noted how sustainability should not be thought of as an added cost, but as good business.

SUSTAINABILTY IS GOOD BUSINESS: That was one of the messages imparted during a panel discussion entitled "Sustainability: How to Act Locally With Global

Theater box offices exploded this past weekend as a result of what has been dubbed "Barbenheimer." The one-two punch of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" has boosted box offices and set a record for the first time two movies have opened domestically at $100 million and $50 million the same weekend. Worldwide, the two films combined for more than $511 million at the box office. "Barbie" has now bested the Super Mario Brothers movie for the best opening weekend of 2023. After the surprisingly soft box office for the latest Indiana Jones film, Hollywood is breathing a sigh of relief for sure.

While the Hollywood Studios and WGA and SAG-AFTRA are at a standstill in labor talks –streaming residuals being a big bone of contention– the theatrical side of the business exploded, w…

The sold-out crowd was electric and enthusiastic. The stadium was awash in fireworks and a giant American flag unfurled across the field to the sound of the National Anthem to kick off the historic event. Fans were waving flags in support of their favorite team as the Texas Super Kings faced off against the L.A. Knight Riders. Wait, who?!? What sport is this, you might ask. It was the debut of Major League Cricket which kicked off in Grand Prairie, Texas in one of the few actual cricket stadiums in the U.S. The journey to the launch of Major League Cricket has been a long one, but now that it is here, organizers are hoping to draw not just die-hard fans of the sport, but also the casual and the curious sports fans in order to get a foothold in the American market where cricket has only been a niche sport among certain ex-pat groups. In much of the rest of the world, it is second behind only soccer as the most popular sport. Time will tell if U.S. fans will embrace cricket, but they now have professional teams and athletes to root for.

There was music, fireworks and top-notch on-field action as a sell-out crowd braved the searing heat, with MLC making a grand debut
