In case you missed it, the Liberty County Softball team was down 6-1 going to the bottom of the 7th inning against Franklin County last night. Some clutch hits with two outs and the Lady Bulldogs came from behind and won 7-6 punching their ticket to the final four. The Bulldogs will face Branford next Friday in Clermont in the State Semi Finals at 1:45. GREAT game girls!

Obituary

ALVIN WILLIAMS

Alvin Williams, age 84, of Altha passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. He was born March 22, 1939. Alvin was keen to let anyone who asked, and a lot who didn’t, know that he was “looking good” in hopes his sly smile would overcome the large facial feature god gave him to help hold up his reading glasses. Alvin got his start in leadership through participation in FFA and rose to the rank of chapter president in Altha. After graduation from Altha High School in 1957 he spent a short time at the University of Georgia, a short time in the military, and then a lifetime back home. He was later the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Marianna while also serving as the Florida Division Manager for Georgia Timberlands, which at the time was one of the largest timber dealerships in the Southeast. Alvin later formed his own timber dealership and then ran a manufacturing operation making fence posts distributed across the eastern United States. He loved to tinker with equipment and never met a complex problem he couldn’t solve with something simple. He also never encountered a simple problem that he couldn’t attempt to resolve with a very complex solution. In his later years Alvin was a simple yet complicated man. He had the ability to bring calmness from chaos and chaos from calmness. His favorite toast was Ed Ball’s “Confusion to the Enemy;” However, he was also known to shorten the toast to simply “Confusion.” Alvin told many stories, some of which were probably true, some were stolen from others with the names changed to protect the guilty and indict the innocent, and a few may have been made up just to see if you would believe them. He was married for 60 years, the last half of which was enjoyed by the couple in separation. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Daniel “Big Bone” Williams; his mother Roxie Williams, his sisters Seable Perry, Jeweldean Harris, Lorene Smith; and his brother Chester Williams. He is survived by his wife Millie Jo; his son Richard Williams and his wife Denise, his daughter Lynn Hobby and her husband Edwin; three grandchildren, Cassie Hobby, Daniel Williams, and Josh Williams, two great grandchildren, Evie and Ellie; his sister Lodean Tate; and his brothers Lester Williams, Loyd Williams, and Kenny Williams. Sometimes family is more than blood. We would also like to thank another family member, James “Wildman” Mason, for being his longtime caretaker, friend, and truth teller. A viewing for family and close friends will be held from 10 AM CT until 11 AM CT at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown. A private service for immediate family will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Altha FFA Chapter or Chipola College to be used for vocational scholarships in areas related to welding, construction, or manufacturing. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.

Obituary for
YOSHI K. HUGGINS

Yoshi K. Huggins, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 30th, 2024. Yoshi was born in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan on July 4, 1935, to Kamesuke and Matsu (Nakama) Kinjo. Yoshi was just a child during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII and helped her sister-in-law and her sister-in-law’s two young children to hide from soldiers during the war. She was a survivor and endured many struggles during her childhood.
In August 1956 she married an American Army soldier, Horace Huggins of Blountstown, FL. After having their first child, Michael in Okinawa, they moved to the United States and had six more children in different states as Horace was stationed at different bases. They eventually settled down back in Blountstown to raise their family. After their children were grown, they spent a small stint from 1989 to 1995 in South Korea and Okinawa when Horace worked as a civil service employee. Yoshi was a homemaker all her life. She loved to cook and feed family and friends. She couldn’t read English, so she rarely used a recipe, but was a great cook and passed those skills on to her children. Yoshi loved to fish on the Big River, or wherever they happened to be biting. She was also passionate about her flower garden and fruit trees. She was up before dawn watering her flowers and tending to plants. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ.
Yoshi was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Huggins, and all of her siblings in Okinawa.
She is survived by her husband, Horace Huggins of Blountstown; sons, Curtis K. and Michelle of Altha, Horace Junior Huggins of Blountstown, Charles Nephi Huggins of Clarksville; daughters, Akiko “Coty” Stoutamire and Bill of Blue Creek, Matsu Bell Greene of Blountstown, Meiko Whitfield of Bristol; grandchildren, Sam (Dawn) Greene, Jon (Chasity) Greene, Morgan (Taylor) Huggins, Brandon (Madison) Huggins, Trenten Huggins, Rick (Terri) Stoutamire, Brandi (Chuck) McCranie, Hana (Toby) Williams, April Huggins, Stephanie (Tony) Barrington, Becky (Jeff) Balentine; a host of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Okinawa and the United States.
The visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 10:00 AM CT at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM CT with Reverend Kyle Peddie officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown, FL. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.

January 15 6:30am ET

After a cloudy, cool, and perhaps rainy, day on Tuesday, cold temperatures are on their way for late Tuesday into Wednesday. A strong cold front will move through the region on Tuesday bringing in cold temperatures Tuesday night. By sunrise Wednesday, wind chills could be in the single digits across southeast Alabama and likely in the teens across the rest of the area. This will be the result of 10 to 15 mph winds combined with temperatures in the low to mid 20s. A hard freeze watch is in effect Tuesday night into Wednesday for these conditions so look after those Pets, Plants, Pipes, and People.
