Beacon AV Lab Beacon AV Lab is a recording studio and audio/video production workshop located in scenic Beacon, NY
(5)

The AV Lab began as the personal project studio and creative workshop of Jonny Taylor (still known by many as 'Dex' from his days as part of Vic Thrill's band & creative collective in the early-oughts). After many iterations of equipment, capabilities and locations, a recent move to the Hudson Valley helped complete the formula for expanding beyond personal projects and offering recording and prod

uction services to a larger community of creative clientele. Beacon AV Lab now offers full-service tracking, mixing and mastering for musicians and bands; voiceover, sound design and original music composition for TV, film and web video; plus technical support and system design services for audio/video/broadcast companies and creative professionals through sister company Dex Support LLC. The Lab’s retro-modern decor and vintage vibe provides an intimate, comfortable atmosphere that inspires creativity. It is conveniently located in the Old Beacon High School, appropriately in what was once the computer lab. The building is a familiar local landmark, also easily accessible from the Beacon Metro-North Train Station for those coming from out-of-town. Only a 1.5hr trip from Grand Central, Beacon’s scenic natural surroundings and charming Main St. provide an ideal destination for anyone looking for a getaway from the city. The studio's compact but powerful system boasts an array of equipment carefully selected to create an optimal hybrid of classic and cutting-edge technology: Based around a digital workstation anchored by Universal Audio’s Apollo and a Slate Raven multi-touch console, the system also features a collection of boutique analog and vintage gear for just the right amount of mojo. The AV Lab’s drums, amps & instruments (including a 1972 Ampeg SVT, Marshall Plexi reissue, and vintage Farfisa organ) are tracked through class-A, discrete preamps such as Heritage Audio’s ’73 Jr; final mixes can be printed through a Heritage Audio MCM-8 analog summing mixer with various options for blending in the distinctive sonic colors of transformers, tubes and tape, all while maintaining the unmatched flexibility and instant recall of a digital workflow. Jonny draws on his expert technical abilities and attentive, musical ear to ensure the technology is transparent to the talent - serving only to enhance the creative process and never get in the way. With rates that are affordable for hobbyists and pros alike, Beacon AV Lab offers professional results at project-studio budgets. Visit BeaconAVLab.com for more info and samples of recent work.
