Sincere gratitude to engineer/musician extraordinaire, John Guth! He was kind enough to drag an ancient Mac G4 and SCSI tape drive out of his basement to help me recover some equally ancient Pro Tools files

I'm very pleased to have bassist Tony Garnier (Bob Dylan, Asleep at the Wheel), and violinist Megan Gould (Natalie Merchant, John Mellencamp) in the studio today, recording for singer/songwriter Dan Pallotta. My job doesn't get much better than this!

I'm very sorry to hear of Tina Turner's passing. She was truly loved and admired by pretty much everyone who ever saw or heard her perform.
For me it was her revelatory cover of "Proud Mary" that put her forever on my map. But there were so many songs it could have been, in her astonishing career.

I have just learned that my friend and former bandmate David Leigh Byron has passed on. This is us in happier days:

Robert Gordon RIP. I recorded him once for producer/writer Mick Hanson. Robert killed it. He liked the air conditioning really cold. I'm not sure mine was cold enough for him.

I just learned of the passing of my friend James Reams, in June of this year.
James was a unique voice in bluegrass music, and with his band, James Reams and the Barnstormers, was a staple of the festival circuit.
The pictures show James in happier days recording the album "One Foot in the H***y Tonk" at Shelter Island Sound. I was honored to track, mix and master much of James' music over the years.

The record kind of came and went, but there were some fun moments on it. I was way into my bending double stops phase.

So this happened: An ADR session for Sony Pictures. Recorded at JGMP Beacon, with Source Connect and Zoom links to Sony post in CA, and production staff all over the globe. Featuring Woody Harrelson! Troubleshooting the tech setup took all week, but definitely worth it!

A rare Larry Etkin sighting today at JGMP Beacon! Larry was adding his scintillating trumpet stylings to songs by Eytan Mirsky and John Presnell. It's always fun to see Larry. But I will be glad when it's possible to do normal selfies again!

A word about safety at JGMP:
While planning our re-opening in Beacon NY, we have payed special attention to taking safety measures for ourselves and our artists. We want you to know that we take everybody's well-being seriously. Here are some of the details:

• Work remotely when possible:
During the current Covid-19 surge we are encouraging artists to work remotely whenever feasible. Obviously, staying home is safer than traveling to the studio, even with the best precautions. At this point, we have a lot of experience with logistics and resources for doing isolated production.

• Masking at sessions:
To the extent possible, we mask and encourage our artists to mask at sessions, and observe all recommended distancing and hand washing protocols, etc.

• Filtered HVAC system:
We have had a MERV-13 rated filter installed in our HVAC feed. This meets recommended particle filtration standards. Additionally, we have HEPA rated UV air scrubbers in the control room and live room that run continuously during off hours.

• UV sterilizer:
We have a UV sterilizer cabinet for sterilizing mics and wind screens. Typically we also use alcohol swabs to wipe down the mics and screens, to add an element of redundancy.

• Cleaning supplies:
We keep a supply of masks, nitrile gloves, alcohol wipes, hand soap, hand sanitizer, surface cleaners, etc. to keep potential contact surfaces regularly wiped down.

We encourage our artists to follow the best available health info for our area, and use extreme caution. If you do choose to book an attended session at JGMP, the above is what you can expect from us.

Our Black Friday indulgence was the Sound Toys 5 bundle, being offered at a very attractive discount. I give Sound Toys great credit for responsive customer service, and for an inclusive policy of allowing users to download and use legacy versions, if they are so inclined.
I anticipate much fun tremolating, devil-locing, and echoboying sounds to my heart's content!
