FIRST ALERT WEATHER
Heavy rain is possible over the next few days. Dr. Steve has a live update
Rain returns to the forecast beginning tomorrow. Be ready for off and on showers and t-storms (multiple rounds) beginning Wednesday afternoon through Friday. Most will receive manageable rain amounts, but some localized, minor flooding is possible.
Jared Silverman here...If you were thinking it's been quiet in the tropical Atlantic, you were right! No named formations from Aug 13 (since Ernesto) through Sept 3...Last time this happened was back in 1968!!!
We've got another mainly dry, hot and muggy day tomorrow. Then have the rain gear handy for the middle of the week.
The local weather will be all over the place this week with dangerous heat to start, a very wet mid week, and then a cold front by the end. The tropics are also starting to heat up again.
Jared Silverman here...Will the DOME OVER BATON ROUGE allow this rain to move in???
Jared Silverman here...Showers/storms moving towards the Baton Rouge area this Thursday morning, passing through Sorrento and Prairieville. No watches/warnings, nothing severe.
Off and on showers and t-storms will continue for the foreseeable future. Some days will be wetter than other, but it's probably a good idea to have rain gear handy daily.
Rain will be a big driver of our local weather forecast in the coming days. Rain chances will increase into the likely category by the holiday weekend. The good news is that no one particular day will be a total wash out.
Jared Silverman here...Good Tuesday morning...Beautiful video from SKY9 over the False River. Blue skies, blue waters, and not to hot....not yet anyway!
Jared Silverman here...Tropical Atlantic remains quiet, with no new waves/storms/disturbances expected in the next 5-7 days. African dust, which typically becomes a non-factor this late in August, is still very much present out there!
We'll see improvement with air quality in the coming days, but they will also start feeling hotter as we see an increase in humidity. Outdoor plans are a go this weekend as most stay dry.
The current weather pattern won't be lasting too much longer. We start to see a slow increase in humidity beginning Friday. Our air quality issues continue to linger thanks in large part to the dry forecast.
Comfortable, less humid air will be hanging around for a few more days. This will mean really nice mornings and evenings, but the afternoons will remain hot. We'll start to notice changes by the weekend.
Jared Silverman here...Supermoon, Southern Style! Good Tuesday morning...Here's a look at the Super Blue Sturgeon Moon as it reflects off the water on our SKY9 camera at L'Auberge.
Less humid air is currently moving into the area. This will allow for air temperatures and feel like temperatures to not have as much separation. Enjoy more comfortable air in the coming days.
Jared Silverman here...Good Wednesday morning...Tropical Storm Ernesto is just about to become a hurricane in the Atlantic. In fact, it is now expected to become a major, category 3!
The stagnant weather pattern continues to do us no favors in terms of dangerous heat and poor air quality for sensitive groups. A Heat Advisory and Ozone Action Day have been designated for the local area again tomorrow.
Jared Silverman here...Tuesday morning update on Tropical Storm Ernesto, with max sustained winds around 45mph. It will wrap around Bermuda high pressure and eventually become a category two hurricane.
DEQ has issued an Ozone Action Day for today and tomorrow. People with breathing issues should limit time outside. Might limit time outside anyway tomorrow as a Heat Advisory has been issued. NHC could be on the verge of upgrading PTC #5 to Ernesto.
