As we work on moving out of the location that we’ve called home for the past 9 years, we would like to thank everyone that made our residency special. On April 24th starting at 2pm we will host a small pop-up as a last event. Please be respectful of everyone’s health concerns. We want everyone to feel safe. We will be wearing our face coverings. We are expecting a smaller event. Feel free to message us with questions or to let us know you plan on setting up. We will try to respond as we can.

Artistic Protest
“Black Lives Matter”

Sometimes, we just need to listen. There are voices of pain that want to be heard, that want to be understood. That path to healing can be a long and winding road, but if we don’t move out of the way, if we don’t let the conversation begin, then it is an impossible destination to reach. For those of you who take the artistic path to communicate your hurt/anger/rage, we would like to hear what you have to say. For the month of June we will be open to visual art and creative writing submissions that deal with matters directly related to the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Maybe it is bringing life to a forgotten name, or a means to emotional peace or catharsis through expression. Whatever it may be, it is clear that there are voices needing to be heard and we want to offer a path. For anyone wanting to participate, we will take open-ended submissions through the month of June. You can message us via email or social media. We will post what we can in a dedicated album here on facebook and see where else we can share. If there are enough entries, we will put them together in a publication that can be downloaded for free. Bear in mind, we are a limited number of volunteers with limited time, so we will do our best to answer questions, organize and take submissions and we will clarify details as we go and think more about this project.

Happy "Project Oh! Day"!! We are hoping everyone is enjoying this Holiday -- unless of course your employer doesn't recognize today as a holiday, in which case you may need a new job... October 4th, 2013 was when we brought our first collaborative project to the public. Issue #1 of Project Oh! Magazine was released on this day. Today we celebrate 6 years of art collaboration which have included: publications, art shows, workshops, meetups, film projects, open mics, and other random ideas we thought might be fun.
So many of you have participated in one form or another and kept us going even when it seemed like an impossible task. We thank you all and have enjoyed every project. We look forward to completing more projects, new and old.
As we take this moment to acknowledge a 6 year journey, we are also working hard to bring to life The Get Down Art Show #10 this November along with Project Oh! Magazine Issue X. Stay tuned for more details, and thank you for being our friend.

CALL TO ARTISTS!
The Bakersfield Museum of Art is proud to announce our 21st Annual Via Arté Italian Street Painting Festival, which will be held ‪October 19 & 20, 2019‬ at The Marketplace. Using the asphalt as canvas, spectators watch each year as professional and student artists unlock their imaginations and turn the parking lot of the Marketplace into a gallery of amazing chalk masterpieces. We would like to invite adults to participate by creating a square inspired by Classic Italian Street Painting. Available square sizes (in feet) to request are: 4x6 (vertical), 7x7, 8x12 (vertical), and 12x12.
