On Friday February 16th, around 830pm, Bakersfield Police Department responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian on E Panama Lane, east of S Union Avenue. Officers broadcast the pedestrian suffered moderate injuries. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative. Scanner News cameras observed police giving the driver field sobriety tests, but he appeared to pass the tests and was released. Prayers to the pedestrian.

Single vehicle accident at Gilmore Ave and Gibson St in northwest Bakersfield. Single driver was unable to safely maneuver through a T intersection, drive through a fence and came to rest in a sump. The sump was partially full of water. The driver fled the scene but eventually returned. CHP - Bakersfield officers conducted a DUI investigation and the driver was subsequently arrested.

Another senseless tragedy last night in . A young girl is dead and a man is behind bars for murder and DUI. Bakersfield Police discovered the crash, in the 1900 block of Planz Road, in south Bakersfield around 11pm. An officer broadcast the crash and advised there were multiple pin ins. He later asked for medical aid to expedite. Bakersfield Fire crews responded and assisted with extricating victims. Several occupants of the vehicle were taken to area hospitals. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of this accident.

out of Central Bakersfield. Bakersfield Police Officers shoot suspect after a shot spotter activation. The suspect died on scene. Read below for more!

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING UPDATE
On January 18th, 2024, at approximately 2:24 AM, the Bakersfield Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for one round fired in the 1300 block of Chester Avenue. Officers responded and encountered an armed suspect in a vehicle. The suspect fired at officers and an officer involved shooting occurred.

A witness notified officers the suspect had been in possession of an object that appeared to be a gr***de or explosive device.

Due to the suspect being armed and the possibility of an explosive device, officers requested additional resources including the Bakersfield Police Department Bomb Squad and an armored vehicle. The Kern County Sheriff’s Department assisted the investigation by providing two armored vehicles. Officers used a robot and drone to ensure the scene was safe before approaching the suspect vehicle.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the decedent will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Chester Avenue between California Avenue and Truxtun Avenue is expected to be closed for several hours.

The officers were equipped with body worn cameras and footage will be released as the investigation allows.
