Fathers Know Best: A Progressive Christian Clergy Couple Podcast A podcast exegesis of the lectionary and pop culture from a clergy couple.

Fathers Know Best: A Progressive Christian Clergy Couple Podcast is a new lectionary & pop culture commentary podcast hosted by us - Brother lizzie and Father Jonathan McManus-Dail. We love to talk; about our sermons, our creative processes, or dissecting the latest episode of “Queer Eye.” We see the world brimming with God’s revelation in our weekly Bible lessons for church and in the lyrics of o

ur favorite records. This podcast is a place for all of that to simmer together: it’s a helping of lectionary-based sermon prep, a dash of pop culture, and a whole lotta heart in a world we think could use some joy. Whether you are also a pastor looking to jump start your sermon-writing engine, a curious parishioner who wonders what - exactly - two pastors talk about over dinner, or if you’ve been burned by a church that did not welcome the wholeness of who you are, we hope you’ll call us friends and join the conversation.

We draw from a lot of resources for our research each week for the podcast - but this sermon is truly incredible so we had to share!

Let us pray: In the name of the One who waded in the waters of Miryam’s womb, walked the way of suffering as one of the woman-born, and woke from the grasp of death in the deep darkness of the morn…

A sermon on Mark 13 for Advent 1.

God is present particularly in the darkness - when the world is ending and when it feels like the world is ending, keep awake. God is near.

Also: as we are back on Zoom for worship for everyone’s safety, I tried saving a little labor this morning and propped my phone up next to my laptop to record my sermon just once. I know my eyes are roaming a bit but let’s try this out, shall we? 💜 And if you’d like to join us on Zoom you are always most most welcome!

Also also: I bought this icon of the Virgin de Guadalupe in Oaxaca a few years ago and she is my favorite!

Also also also: Advent police need not apply. I am all in on Advent and yes, my tree is up & decorated & I live in a small apartment & this is the designated Zoom church corner. Let’s let people be joyful as they wait, ok? 😘💜

Hey y'all,

We know it's a ... full ... time right now. (Tense? Stressful? Overwhelming? So ready for Christmas?!).

Sorry we missed ya last week but we promise this week's episode was worth it. It's longer than usual but we promise the soil is rich - so if you're waiting in a long poll line tomorrow, or driving people to the polls, or waiting for election results, we offer this meditation on Amos and Matthew with our brilliant friend, Rev. Amber Burgin, as a place to settle into a warm, dark, soft place to breathe.

Oh! And check out Amber's work at Elijah's Farm!

Curious how last week's episode led into a sermon? Here's lizzie word for her congregation on Sunday.

New episode drops tonight!
