I recently signed up for a marathon.

I don’t even like running.

But they gave me a compelling reason to join.
The compelling reason… an exclusive marathon race.

The race sold out in 10 minutes.

If you want people to join your community.
Give them a compelling reason:

- Is it the private events you host?
- Is it the dope swag you give away?
- Is it the free products or services you offer?
- Is it the amazing community workouts you host?

Don't build community for everybody.
Build community for somebody.

Let me be frank. 🌭

Most content sucks. 🤮

Everyone is trying to reach the largest audience possible.
With the best content possible.

But how do you actually do it?
You become a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

A SME is someone who can take EVERY angle on a topic.
Not just the ones that support their current beliefs.

They can argue against themselves.
They look for “I’m wrong” not “I’m right.”

This is why people listen to Dr. Andrew D. Huberman.
He finds information that proves him wrong.

He’s not tied to his ego.
He’s tied to producing the best information possible.

Want people to listen?
Master your craft… from every angle.

Setting a goal is only 1% of the equation.

The other 99%...

The habits that will get you there.

#2023

12/29/2022

When you strip away all the mumbo jumbo.

A successful business only has two components.

A customer.
And an offer.

Here’s the good news.
You don’t need both.

If you already have an audience.
You can partner with someone that has an offer.

If you already have an offer.
You can partner with someone that has an audience.

Trying to do both left me feeling stretched for time.
Frustrated with the poor results.

Then I realized... I don't need to do both.
Not at the same time anyways.

We can do anything.
Just not all at once.

What is your focus for 2023?

Perfecting your offer?
Or building an audience?

✌️

Don’t create content to grow a following.

Create content to generate a conversation.

I’ve been posting daily for over a year.
Yet, I don’t have a massive following.

What I do have is a massive archive of private messages.
A network of authentic relationships.

Here’s what most people don’t tell you about social media.
The real game is played in the DMs.

Not the posts.

✌️

Rejection is the great equalizer.

It tells the world how bad you want it.

How many “NO’s” are you willing to face to reach your goals?

There is NO getting around it (see what I did there?).
Rejection is part of the process.

Just remember.
You are not your offer.

✌️

12/23/2022

Follow your heart.

But what if you don’t know what your heart wants?

Then the next best thing is to follow what you THINK your heart wants.

I’ve all but accepted that I rarely know what my heart wants.
Not because of a lack of self-awareness.

But because I’m always evolving.
- New information
- New education.
- New locations.
- New people.

The more mountains I climb.
The more I realize there is another mountain to climb.

Follow your heart… and keep climbing friends.

Once I knew how good I could feel.

I never wanted to go back.

In college, I used to live for the party.
Thursday-Sunday was the norm.

I would party until 2am.
And then wake up at 4:30am to open the gym I worked at.

It was a form of torture.
I constantly felt exhausted.

I tolerated it because I didn’t know any different.
I didn’t know how good I could feel.

Once I got a taste of the good stuff.
The REAL feel goods.

It was hard to go back.

The REAL feel goods:
- Endorphins after a hard workout.
- Rested after a good night's sleep.
- Accomplished after a difficult project.
- Love after a meaningful conversation.

Instead of asking yourself.
"What do I want to do?"

Try asking yourself.
"How do I want to feel?"

And then work backwards from there.

So... let me ask you... how do you want to feel?

My first business was a lemonade stand.

Arguably, my most successful business ever.

My parents used to host a lot of garage sales.
Like most kids, it sparked a desire to set up a booth.

The business model was simple.
Sell as many cups of lemonade as possible for 25¢.

It was a raging success!

Not because of how much money I made.
But because I didn’t overthink it.

I didn’t spend a week designing my logo.
And another week ordering my business cards.
And another week determining the best payment software.
And another month rethinking my entire business model.

I took action.
And learned as I went.

Let’s be honest, it never made me rich.
And of course, some business models are better than others.

But don't confuse PLAYING business with DOING business.

Doing business = helping people solve a problem.
Playing business = everything that's not. 👆`

What problem are you helping people solve?

✌️

12/20/2022

When do people change?

When the pain becomes great than the fear of the unknown.

For me, it was when I had a meeting with my boss.
At the time, I was working as an occupational therapist.

They had a list of topics that we needed to discuss.
One of the main topics on that list… my dress attire.

Not “How do we improve patient outcomes?”
Not “How do we deliver a better patient experience?”
Not “How do we collaborate with other practitioners?”

Nope… my dress attire.
Black jeans, to be specific.

I’ll never forget my exact thought in that moment.
”I will NEVER have another conversation like this again.”

This isn’t a slam against my boss, or any boss for that matter.
It was a realization that our priorities were misaligned.

People over things.

What was your breaking moment?

✌️

12/19/2022

When you speak from your own experiences, people listen.

It answers a very important question.

”Why the hell should I listen to you?”

- Were you able to burn 20 pounds of fat?
- Gain 10 pounds of muscle?
- Run a sub 3-hour marathon?
- Get rid of your lower back pain?
- Rescue a dog from a shelter?

When you walk the walk.
People trust you.

What about you?
What recent experience can you speak from?

✌️

I used to believe that being dumb was a weakness.

Here’s how to turn it into a strength. 👇

I went to a networking event last night.
I met a fella there who is a loan officer.

Something I know nothing about.
My response?

”This is a topic I know nothing about… can you explain it to me like I’m 5?”

Here’s what I love about that question. 👆
It’s a win/win.

I get to learn something new.
They get to talk about a topic they're interested in.

Knowing nothing about a topic is only a weakness if you don’t capitalize on it.

- Stay curious.
- Always be learning.
- Surround yourself with people smarter than you.

It’s no wonder why I love podcasting so much.

✌️

12/09/2022

I own basically nothing.

But I wasn’t always that way.

I used to have all the things.
TVs, gaming systems, audio systems, way too many clothes.

After obtaining enough stuff, I realize an important truth.
The more stuff I owned, the more that stuff owned me.

Fixing, cleaning, moving, and updating all take time.
Time I don’t want to spend doing those things.

Things I want to spend my time doing?
Creating, collaboration, building and networking.

Marketing is much of the same way.
You’ll be happier by doing less.

What are the tasks you WANT to do?
- Podcasting?
- YouTubing?
- Networking?
- Writing?
- Workshops?

Do the vital few that resonate with you.
Ditch the rest.

Podcasting is never about the equipment.

It's always about the content.

Things I thought mattered:
- Microphones
- Cameras
- Software

Things that actually matter:
- Guest research
- Compelling questions
- Listening skills

What would you add to the list?

✌️

12/03/2022

If you’re not creating content.

Do you even exist?

Prior to 2020, I rarely, if ever, created content.
Now I create every single day.

Why?

Because I care.

I care to inspire people.
I care to educate people.
I care to entertain people.
I care to help people solve their problems.

Stop looking at content as a time suck.
And start looking at content as a way to serve your community.

You have knowledge in your head people could benefit from.
Please share it with us.

How can someone work with you… if they don’t know you exist?

Marketing is the art and science of becoming known.

The best way to become known is to be known for something.

When someone hears your name, what do they think?
Don’t skip over how important that question is.

Love it or hate it… you’re already known for something.
Is it what you want to be known for?

It’s what makes you stand apart.
It’s how people remember you.

So… what’s your thing?
Running? Keto? Pull-ups? Gut health?

When you market yourself around a specific topic.
You become known for that topic.

Becoming known builds trust.
Trust builds relationships.
Relationships lead to lifelong customers.

What do you want to be known for?

Most people accept the basics of fitness.

But try to take shortcuts with content.

Fitness basics = eat clean and move regularly.
Eventually, you'll see results.

Content basics = add value and show up consistently.
Eventually, you'll gain traction.

Fitness & content play the same game.
It's called compound interest.

Most people accept that fitness takes time.

Yet everyone wants the shortcut to marketing.

There ARE shortcuts to marketing.
But it’s the equivalent of liposuction to fitness.

Unpredictable, risky, and temporary.
Don’t take the shortcut.

Stick to the basics. 👇
- Give more than you take.
- Show up consistently.
- Build relationships.

The universal law of compound interest will eventually pay off.
Just like it does with fitness.

✌️

11/26/2022

Do you really not care what people think?

Or do you say that because it feels good to say it?

Most people don’t create content because of fear of judgment.
- “What’s my ex-girlfriend going to say?!”
- “What will my family think of me?!”
- “What if I look like an idiot?!”
- “What if people say something mean?!”

The problem is if you don’t create content.
You might as well be invisible.

It’s hard to work with people if they don’t know you exist.

The solution?
Stop caring what other people think.

It’s not up to you to decide what is “good” or “bad.”
The market will do it for you.

- Create content
- Post content
- Listen to the feedback
- Adjust as you see fit
- Repeat

What’s your process for creating content?

When choosing your mission.

Keep this in mind.

It helps to be obsessed with it.
But if you’re not, at least be genuinely interested in it.

If you’re not interested in it, you won’t stick with it.
Choose something that gets you excited (and possibly even scares you).

Don’t choose a mission you’re not interested in.
People can smell fake a mile away.

Obsession comes when people start to rally.

What's got you fired up these days?

Want to attract raving fans?

Be a community organizer.

Your community might not want want to push your brand.
But they will want to push your mission.

Create a space for people to come together.
Invite interesting people to support the bigger mission.

What is your bigger mission?
