Play is essential. It's how kids develop fine and gross motor skills, build core strength, learn to make friends, gain independence, develop problem solving skills, develop object manipulation skills, and so much more. And these types of skills provide an important foundation for later academic (and non-academic) learning.

I am designing a comprehensive educational unit that spans multiple subjects, initially focusing on the historical and cultural contexts of Roman Saturnalia, Pagan Yule, and Christian Christmas traditions, analyzing their growth and adaptations throughout the centuries, while stressing their shared celebratory roots. Moreover, I plan to expand this module to cover winter solstice traditions worldwide, presenting a comparative global historical and shared cultural experiences framework, complemented by interactive educational activities, recipes, crafts, and collaborative projects designed to foster greater appreciation and understanding of diverse cultural heritage. I do not plan to be done by this solstice but that is our big goal for 2025!
