What are Christians supposed to do during a recession?

The price of Bitcoin is dropping... Inflation has hit a new 40-year high... A drop in new home sales and mortgage applications is stirring fears of a real estate bubble popping... consumer confidence is low... Tech stocks are down 50-70%+...

Fear and anxiety are capturing the hearts and minds of millions of investors... So what are Christians supposed to do?

That's a tough question to answer at times. Perhaps it's wiser to start by listing out things our sinful nature wants us to do first:

🚨 Allow fear to drive our decision-making: Panic sell assets, freeze in fear, attempt to "time the market" and buy the dip, give up hope...

🚨 Seek comfort from worldly idols: Financial difficulties can drive a wedge between us and our relationship with Christ. It's easy to turn to Earthly comforts or idols rather than trusting in God.

🚨 Give up: Our sinful nature wants us to give up hope, lose our joy in Christ, and retreat from tough challenges.

The truth is God provides for us in times of fear, uncertainty, and recessions. Our fears are irrational when we realize we have security in God's forgiveness and the gift of eternal salvation.

So what can Christians do in the face of an economic recession? Here is a short list of practical and spiritual practices you might find useful:

✅ Fight inflation by purchasing household items in bulk.

✅ Security can be found in diversification... Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

✅ Take your financial concerns to God in prayer.

✅ Be generous to those who are in need.

✅ Put yourself on budget.

And here's a big one: Recessions nor depressions last forever.

If you are investing to make a quick buck in the next 2 or 3 months, you are NOT an investor.

Bitcoin, the stock market, real estate... all of these assets require a long-term vision for the future.

Don't be fooled into giving up on something because of a temporary recession. Sometimes the best time to strike is when the economy is in the gutter and assets can be purchased for pennies on the dollar.
