Our Story
The longest-running, most successful propaganda campaign of all time is for black inferiority. FILLING A NEED... Historically, The portrayal of minorities in movies, television and all other forms of media has been less than ideal... The Dilemma... The longest-running, most successful propaganda campaign of all time is for black inferiority. The major film and television studios and the media outlets of the world are the propagators of the negative stereotypes and inescapable stigmas that should have been left behind once the shackles of segregation were broken but Unfortunately, they are seen in our sitcoms, newscasts and big screen movies. whether its appearing in disparaging roles or not even appearing at all, minorities are the victim of an industry that relies on these inaccurate portrayals to both appeal to and falsely elevate the "majority" at the expense of the so called "insignificant minority." All blame, however, cannot be placed on the white males who run the industry. Many current film and television projects, even those created by our own people will only get investment dollars if they portray us in these negative roles and we buy into that just to get paid. In a NPR interview author Tom Burrell calls out negative images of African Americans in the media for perpetuating the myth of black inferiority. In his book "Brainwashed", he examines the history of the myth and how contemporary culture reinforces it. Even today, for every positive image of African-Americans, you can find 100 negative stereotypes with too many perpetrated by blacks themselves. Hispanics, like African-Americans, are not only misrepresented in entertainment television and all other forms of media, they are almost always negatively portrayed as well. These images produced by the white controlled media have been filtered through the racial misconceptions and fantasies of the dominant white culture. "From the very beginning the whole thing was a sham and a myth. All of the images and comments that you have been fed, all of the concepts that you have been taught to accept all of the concepts that you have you have been taught to accept are false...... It's false advertising". The Solution.... While there is no single solution to this dilemma, the advent of new technology has allowed us to communicate globally like never before. These negative portrayals do not at all represent people of color. These methods of stereotypical "branding" can be countered. For over 60 years our people have been fighting both oppression and stereotypes. Unfortunately we accept them through conditioning but we no longer have to be shown in this way. We have the talent and ability. We can no longer contribute to the viscous cycle that is both the conscious and unconscious racism of the media, film and entertainment industries. We need to break the cycle and formulate a new industry that is more representative of the reality that truly represents both people of color and American society today. Black on Purpose Television will make a conscious effort to deliver content that is new, fresh and exciting. We don't have to feed into this cycle. We welcome your input as your ideas and suggestions help to make this a better network. Thank you for your time And enjoy!. Michael Campbell President/CEO, Black on Purpose Television Network
