I know many of you have set New Year’s resolutions and goals focused on weight loss, and I’m so excited to see you step into this new chapter! As someone who has been on this journey, I want to encourage you to approach it differently this time: change your mind.
Let me share a little about my story. In 2017, I weighed 420 pounds. Today, I’m 198 pounds. That’s a 222-pound difference—but the biggest transformation didn’t happen on the scale. It happened in my mind.
I’m sure some will look at my journey and think, “Wow, that must’ve taken so much physical work and lifestyle changes!” But in reality, there was just one real change and it was mental, emotional and spiritual: I decided to heal. The trauma, the negative self-talk, and the pain that lived rent-free in my head and heart were slowly destroying me. I had to confront it all and choose to heal.
For so many years, I carried wounds that almost killed me. But once I made the decision to heal, I opened the door to living a life of abundance, peace, and purpose. My weight loss was just one part of that journey—but the freedom and joy I’ve found in the process? That’s what truly can’t be compromised.
So as you work toward your goals this year, I challenge you to go deeper. Address the things that hold you back. Heal what hurts you. Because real change doesn’t start with the body—it starts with the mind.
You’ve got this.
