When asked what is your favorite part of your job, Nik said, "One of the things I love most about my job is helping others achieve their goals and watching them grow. Traveling is not just about places, it's about the memories we make. At Texas Health HEB, we care for more travel-related circumstances than other hospitals and through the Texas Health’s Make A Memory program we connect with patients and brighten their lives in ways that have little to do with their health issues.

“It’s a unique patient population, because they don’t even live here,” said Anne Wainwright, B.S.N., R.N., OCN, who works in the hospital’s discharge lounge. “They sometimes don’t even make it here with their luggage because it’s still on the plane. We make sure they get all the personal items they need.”

Community Time Off (CTO) allows Texas Health employees to serve and volunteer with outside organizations, schools and nonprofits in our local service areas. And our employees have really been busy supporting our communities.

• The day and night shift staff from Texas Health Fort Worth's Cardiac Progressive Care Unit recently spent the day stocking shelves with Tarrant Area Food Bank at a local Fort Worth neighborhood pantry. With 3 trucks delivering goods on a hot summer day, they had plenty to do!
• Texas Health Plano's nurse leaders headed to the Samaritan Inn to help stock and organize supplies for this comprehensive homeless program.
• Back to school time! Texas Health Alliance's team members have been busy out and about supporting our school districts as they prepare for the new school year.
• Texas Health Allen's professional governance council’s summer community service project supported the Samaritan Inn who serves those experiencing homelessness in Collin County. Council members collected essential items and assembled comfort bags for the Samaritan Inn to distribute this summer.
• Texas Health Cleburne's team members had a blast visiting all the campers at the East Cleburne Community Center Summer Day Camp! They got the youngsters moving and grooving with stretching and yoga and presented healthy habits including exercise and fitness.

Get to know Texas Health! Meet Paola and Olinda Acosta-Fierro, twins and CMAs with Texas Health Physicians Group. Paola and Olinda are in our employee spotlight and talk about the FastTrack Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Apprenticeship program and their shared love for helping others.

Both sisters wanted to pursue healthcare careers from a young age.

“We wanted to help people,” Olinda said. “We started volunteering at age 9 and would give out bags of food during the summer.”

“And we had an interest in science,” Paola said. “So, the two went hand in hand.”

Get to know Texas Health! Meet Adam Golden, M.B.A., B.S.N., R.N., a manager in the medical ICU at Texas Health Dallas. Adam is in our employee spotlight and talks about his love for nursing.

When asked what are some of the ways you strive to serve employees, Adam said, "Making myself available is a top priority. I want staff to be able to reach me directly. I strive to have face-to-face time with all my team, both day and night. I even changed up my schedule a bit to find a better balance that allows me to be present on the night shift at least once a week. The bedside nurse always has more responsibilities added, and rarely is anything ever taken away. I always look for ways to remove obstacles and make sure they have everything they need to do good work."

Texas Health Azle is creating new opportunities for wellness on campus with a Walking Path and Wellness Wednesdays, a weekly opportunity for employees to take a 15-minute break for a free exercise session doing Pilates, yoga, stretching or aerobic exercise.

Care Team, Service Dogs Help Minimize Patient’s Exposure to Corn Allergens

Imagine having an allergy that lurks in products you’d never suspect. Severe allergic reactions can be life threatening and lead to anaphylactic reactions that makes it hard or impossible to breathe. This is the story of a Texas Health Flower Mound patient who's severely allergic to corn.
