From the time the Russians established “New Archangel” (Formerly, the Tlingit village of Shi-atika) until the handover to the US in 1867, Baranov Castle stood as the stronghold overlooking the city. After the handover, the town reverted to a variation of the former name and became Sitka, Alaska. But for hundreds, maybe thousands of years, the Tlingit people had lived in the area.

Tlingit Maiden Nancy Shodda lives in Sitka and works as a barista in a local coffee shop. When she hears Dr. Charlene Tambeau and Marina Yakovna striving to read a copy of an ancient writing, she realizes they are reading Tlingit words that are written with Russian letters. The three strike up a friendship and set out together to find the fabled Russian “Ghost Garrison” in the area of Sitka. They uncover riches untold, but riches of a spiritual and historic nature.

I have been remiss in posting about The Sacred Relics and I wish to correct that here.

“The Sacred Relics is a novel. I want that understood. Its purpose is to entertain and hopefully motivate the reader to crack open the Bible and maybe the history book… I hope he or she is inspired. But I never really talked much about how this book came to me.

Like the prophet of old, it was like a fire shut up in my bones. I’ve written many books but this is the first one in which I did not suffer from writer’s block at any time. It simply flowed off of my fingertips over the course of about six weeks… I’m not exagerating. And looking back, other than spell and grammar corrections I can think of only one single correction that I made and it had to do with a color mentioned. I’ll let the read ponder that.

Was it inspired by God? I think so. As I’ve said, it is not scripture. It is a novel… a parable, if you will. If you enjoy reading it half as much as I enjoyed writing it, I feel I’ve succeeded.”

Marina Yakovna is a veteran of the peacetime Russian Army. After her hitch in the army, she began studying archaeology. Her studies lead her to pursue an ancient legend about a company of soldiers from Czarist Russia who seemed to vanish in Russian-America, now known as Alaska.

Her investigation brings her to Sitka where she meets Charlene Tambeau and a young Tlingit girl named Nancy Shodda who helps the two to translate ancient documents that are written in Russian letters, but are actually "Russian-ized" Tlingit. It rather confirms the legend, but the ladies set out to discover if the legends are authentic, or just what many say... legend only.

Charlene Tambeau, atheist die-hard is presented with overwhelming evidence backing up the existence of the different personalities in the Bible. But until she feels overwhelming love, she cannot bring herself to accept the Gospel.

If St. Paul, a man who knew something about tents, sent a letter to St. Mark (who took the Gospel to Egypt) recommending a tent maker, would it be an epistle? Maybe.... but definitely not Scripture. Do you suppose such correspondence might have existed at some point? And if so, what might have happened to it?

St. John the Revelator lived out most of his life on the Island of Patmos. He was said to be the only Apostle to live to old age. What if, for instance, his sandals had been hoarded somewhere? Not holy. But very important both Biblically and Historically.

Mike Reed, is a simple shipping clerk in Tacoma. His boss, a would-be archaeologist has come across a picture of a bit of wood with an inscription and geographic coordinates, all in Russian.

An ancient message, scrawled on a bit of wood has been found and its picture is posted on the internet. But within a day it is gone and the one who posted it turns up murdered in Moscow. As the adventure unfolds, Mike meets four others deep in the Alaskan wilderness, who are seeking the same coordinates. Once they arrive, they find treasure, but not of the monetary variety.
