It wasn't pretty - it was horrific. A man was lynched! Join the Alexandria Community Remembrance Project to honor this coming Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church of Alexandria, VA - - The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project is holding its annual event in memory of Benjamin Thomas, a Black Alexandria teen lynched 125 years ago.

To acknowledge this aspect of our history as we work toward creating a more inclusive community, the Alexandria Community Remembrance Project has invited Rachel Laser to speak about attempts to stifle the teaching of our shared history, book bans, and disinformation that stokes fear about race in our public schools. She will be presenting “Why the ‘Parental Rights’ Movement Is Anti-Civil Rights.”

On Thursday, August 8 there will be an hour-long program of music, memory and learning.

The event will be at Shiloh Baptist Worship Center at 1401 Jamieson Avenue (across the street from the historic Shiloh church building). Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. Historic Alexandria, VA

We hope that everyone had a great Juneteenth Holiday! Today, I was lucky enough to catch up with the at the WWII Memorial. There were a little over 2 dozen Men and Women from the Atlanta area here. Each person had served their country, many were often overlooked. The oldest person on this honor flight was 101 years old, but by just looking at him, you would not be able to tell that. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to meet each one, they were whisked around so fast, and it was pretty hot on the mall. However, I did notice a part of their life stories by the words on the hats that they were wearing. Words like: Purple Heart Combat Wounded
Vietnam Veteran
US Marines
US Air Force
US Army
8th Infantry Division
173rd Airborne Brigade
This is the First all black group of servicemen that the Honor Flight Network has pulled together to visit Washington DC. The group traveled on Airlines (coincidently riding with an all black crew, Captain, Co-Captain and flight attendants - don't we just LOVE Southwest :) They visited Arlington Cemetery, toured the Mall (WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial etc.) and thoroughly enjoyed their all expense paid trip. Men and Women of the first ever Juneteenth Honor Flight, we salute you and thank you for your service.

What a marvelous job Minister did as she gave the invocation at last Fridays House of Delegates Session in Richmond VA. Minister Michelle posted the following on her page: After 400 years, this week Virginia swore in the first Black Speaker of the House, Don Scott, to lead the House of Delegates in the General Assembly. What a blessing to be living in a time like this to witness history.
I will admit that I struggled to find the right words to pray over this historic legislative session. However, I’m grateful to the Lord and honored for this opportunity to serve the House Delegates by leading their invocation at the start to session this week. May we all turn on that inner light that promotes community. My prayer is that the light causes us all to dream together solutions for our neighborhoods, reject apathy, and uphold our democracy.
Here’s a link to my prayer. I’m so grateful for my National Community Church Pastors Mark Batterson, Marion Mason, and Jon & Anne Marie Vaughan for their prayers and support this week. I feel so blessed to be in service to the Lord and those who serve. - Here is a snippet from her prayer to this State Assembly.
