“Eli, Eli,[a] lema sabachthani?”
"Tetelestai"
"Avi, be'yadha afkid ruhi"
Rain fell in ribbons to the earth.
As the Angels cried.
And the earth in all splendor,
With all grandeur,
And all the good,
All the bad.
One-
Looked to the heavens,
And with faith fleeting he had all
The vestige of humanity around
Him and he spoke as a son would to a father-
“Eli, Eli,[a] lema sabachthani?” (Father, why have you forsaken me?)
That my own soul aches at times
Reminds me that the trials
And pain and toil release love
And beauty- I feel His hand upon
My face when it is dark- uncertain.
I am filled with questions of
the purpose of pain, suffering, and sacrifice.
Quietly he reminds me-
"Tetelestai" (It is finished)
Life becomes fulfilled.
Purpose clears my soul,
and like a soft breeze on
a warm spring day my
mind relents and my
thoughts turn bliss.
Thinking of the gentle beauty,
the green grass under
my back and the puffy
clouds dancing chaotically
across a brilliant blue canvass.
The cry of a mourning dove,
the buzz of bees floating
on the tops of clover blooms.
The smell of earth and all
the most serene and wonderful
feelings that come with
acceptance of the moment
as it passes fleetingly and the day
the moment, the time.
It is completed-
And as brilliant the colors of the
day with all the beautiful
and wonderful experiences
brought out in troves
and placed for no simpler
reason than to be noticed
by all of the universe.
The brilliance, the wonder,
the sweetness of the moments
begin to recede towards the end
of the day with gorgeous and
saturated sky filled with reds
oranges, yellows, greens,
blues, violets, purples and
eventually black that comes
over the earth closing this day
and preparing the world for
resurrection and I am reminded of-
"Avi, be'yadha afkid ruhi" (My Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.")
Because that is what should be
said at the end of each day.
At the end of all the gifts.
For all the heartbeats.
For all the loves of my life.
For all the experiences.
For all the wonder.
For all the curiosities.
For all of faith.
Again I feel His touch
upon my face welcoming
me to the beginning
of the next day
and with it the simple
splendor and ubiquitous
love that comes relentlessly
into my heart and soul
as I give up my soul for
a few brief hours each night
so that it might be invited
to dance with all the others
amongst the angels until
the next day and rebirth-
Happy Easter Friends-
