Wyden Asks FAA To Update Unmanned Aircraft Rules http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49714

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., has called on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to speed up approvals for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) test permits, and to ensure the agency’s plans to regulate these aircraft don’t fall behind schedule. The FAA created six test sites across the country to study unmanned aircraft in response to a request from Congress in 2012 to craft regulations that meet the unique safety challenges posed by UAS. Vancouver Police Officers Involved In Shooting http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49710

Vancouver Police responded to a disturbance between a male and a female at an apartment located at 11716 NE 49th Street in Vancouver. Officers were advised that the male subject had set an apartment on fire and was believed to be armed. Multiple officers arrived and located the male in the parking lot of the complex armed with a gun. The male refused commands from officers to put his weapon down and was shot. [ 70 more words. ]

S*x Offender Sentenced To 40 Years In Prison For 2013 Kidnapping And S*xual Assault http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49705

34-year-old James Ezell Clark was sentenced on Monday to 40 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in 2013. This investigation began on September 18, 2013, at 3:16 a.m., when Central Precinct officers responded to the area of Southeast 3rd Avenue and Main Street on the report of a sexual assault. Officers arrived and contacted the victim who told police that she was sleeping in her friend's car in the area of Southwest 2nd Avenue and Oak Street. [ 191 more words. ]

Central Precinct officers responded Wednesday morning to Waterfront Park on the report of several crows suffering seizures and flopping on the ground. Officers arrived and located several dead crows in the area. Portland Parks & Recreation Park Rangers located additional crows and are working with police. In the late morning hours on Monday two men entered two different Wilsonville businesses, the 76 Station located at 30085 SW Parkway Avenue and the Plaid Pantry located at 29890 SW Town Center Loop West, and stole large quantities of to***co products. OSU To Study Diseases Affecting Common Nursery Plants http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49694

Oregon State University said this week it plans to use a $3 million grant to study two groups of bacteria that result in millions of dollars in losses annually to the nation’s nursery industry. Researchers will study Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Rhodococcus fascians, which deform hundreds of common landscape plants, including hostas, Shasta daisies, petunias and pansies. These bacterial pathogens are of particular concern in Oregon, where the greenhouse and nursery industry contributes more than $745 million to the Oregon economy annually. [ 377 more words. ]

Portland Police officers made seven arrests Tuesday evening for unlawful behavior after a splinter group broke away from a very peaceful Ferguson demonstration in Downtown Portland. Tuesday afternoon's demonstration and march that started and ended at the Justice Center was peaceful, well attended and there were no reported problems during the march, according to the Portland Police Department. After the organized event ended, a separate group broke away and began a second march that wound its way through Downtown Portland, across the Burnside Bridge and onto Southeast Grand Avenue. Health Advisory Kifted November 25 For Devils Lake http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49686

The Oregon Health Authority has lifted a health advisory issued August 1 for Devils Lake, located in Lincoln City, Lincoln County. Water monitoring has confirmed reduced levels of blue-green algae and their toxins. These reduced levels are not likely to be harmful to humans and animals. Chief Mike Reese Issues Statement Regarding Officers Use Of Badge On Facebook http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49652

Monday morning, Chief Mike Reese ordered three officers to remove images of the official Portland Police Bureau badge, surrounded by a bracelet stating, "I am Darren Wilson" from their personal pages. "I was alerted to these images this morning and immediately ordered their removal through the officers' chain of command. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Director Lisa VanLaanen has appointed Jeanean Craig of Silverton and Charlotte Lehan of Wilsonville to the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries. Craig, a lawyer, was appointed in the spring and is interested in the historical records and legal issues related to Oregon's historic cemeteries. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) said Monday that it will replace its across-the-board "discovery season" discount program with targeted deals starting in 2015. The discounts are still in effect now through April 30, 2015, and reduce tent and RV campsite costs by $4 per night. Today, Tigard Police officers were called to the 76 Station located at 10775 SW Greenburg Rd. in Tigard at approximately 1:50 a.m. on reports of a fire and explosion. Firefighters with TVF&R were arriving at the scene along with police and quickly worked to extinguish a fire which appeared to start in an exterior restroom. Deputies Investigating Serious Injury Crash http://www.albanytribune.com/?p=49572

Marion County Sheriff's deputies are on scene of a three vehicle crash with serious injuries in north Marion County. Deputies expect McKay Road NE to be closed for at least five hours between Arbor Grove and Case Road NE, while the CRASH Team investigates. Deputies are describing the area as being blanketed in thick fog making visibility nearly zero. We are asking that motorists avoid the area while the crash is investigated and the roadway cleared.
