Data Did You Know – The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index measures the prices of used vehicles in the U.S. It uses data from over 5 million annual transactions, adjusting for vehicle mix, mileage, and seasonality to provide an accurate reflection of market trends. In July 2024, the index rose to 201.6, indicating a 2.8% month-over-month increase but a 4.8% year-over-year decrease.

Is this not an act of war? Cyberattacks on CDK Global have caused disruptions at dealerships in the United States, potentially reducing new-vehicle sales in June by approximately 100,000 units. J.D. Power and GlobalData forecast that U.S. light vehicle sales for the month will decrease by 2.6 to 7.2 percent compared to the same period last year, resulting in sales volume between 1.27 million and 1.33 million vehicles. Initially, sales were expected to reach 1.41 million before the ransomware attacks, which began on June 19.

Uncertainty about how soon the CDK issue will be resolved means a range of outcomes are possible, according to J.D. Power and GlobalData, though lost sales could be made up quickly in July.

The survey covers 20 different trouble spots, ranging from minor concerns like squeaky brakes to more significant issues like transmission malfunctions. This year, the organization collected information on more than 330,000 vehicles. These vehicles span model years from 2000 up to 2023, including a few models from the early release of the 2024 lineup.
