Unveiling "Ashen": a journey into animation magic!

Today, we're excited to share a sneak peek into "Ashen," a project that's not just another animation—it's an adventure that brought us many "firsts ever," adding cool experiences to our workflow and skills!

✨ What is Ashen? ✨
"Ashen" is our first animation work, a collaborative masterpiece led by the brilliant Ruby Bell and produced by an outstanding team — Bell, Michelle Chan, Giorgia Starawuk, and executive producer Mandy Walker ACS, ASC. It's a global effort, and we're proud to be part of this creative constellation.

Talented designers of our Mriya team fully used the features of Unreal Engine to craft the lifelike objects with realistic lighting that dynamically adjusts based on the physical movements of each item.

✨ What Makes it Cool? ✨
Every inch of "Ashen" cartoon is a masterpiece, crafted with sophisticated details. From wallpaper patterns to table feet, each element has received utmost attention. Crafting such perfection takes days, but the result is worth every moment.

You can make sure of this, by seeing the carousel with the objects our team created. Stay tuned to witness the magic unfold behind the scenes as we bring this super-realistic cartoon to life.

Recently, Co-founder of Mriya Production, Artem Romanyukov, who's serving in the Armed forces of Ukraine shared his thoughts about the company's achievements and the perspectives of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) in Virtual Production.

We will share a link for our Ukrainian fellows below, and here we share the main thoughts from the article for our English followers.

🔷 About Mriya and its perspectives 🔷

- Mriya Production aims to popularize Ukraine as a filming location and promote new technology in the film industry.

- The company works as a Remote Virtual Production Department for global studios and was among the first globally to create a service exclusively focused on virtual production.

🔷About the future of VP in film industry 🔷

- Large-scale blockbusters won't require huge pavilions, positively impacting film budgets.

- There will be improvements in realism and interactivity with advancements in technology and computing power.

- Virtual production ensures cost-effectiveness compared to green screens depending on the project's requirements. In some cases, technology use can be two or ten times cheaper, especially for advertising or music videos.

- Initially, some projects were more expensive to establish a presence but became easier after the success of projects like The Mandalorian and Netflix's 1899.

🔷 Use of UAVs in Virtual Production 🔷

- Unmanned Aerial Vehicles can be used for virtual production, while the video simulators already use similar technology.

We keep talking about virtual production, but you'd probably ask: how does this thing work?

Virtual production combines real-world elements with digital effects in real-time, creating immersive scenes. Unlike traditional green-screen production, 3D environments are pre-rendered, live-rendered from the camera perspective, and displayed on LED screens, all captured directly on camera.

How the typical process of the VP looks like?

🔵 Step 1. Previsualization: planning the scenes and camera movements, same as for classic shooting.
🔵 Step 2. Virtual Sets and Environments: creating digital sets, backgrounds, and environments using computer-generated imagery (CGI) or 3D modeling (displayed on large LED walls or projection screens on the physical set).
🔵 Step 3: Filming of real objects: live actors and physical objects are placed within this virtual environment.
🔵 Step 4: Camera Tracking: Cameras used in virtual production are typically equipped with motion-tracking technology, allowing them to move within the virtual environment seamlessly.
🔵 Step 5: Real-Time Rendering: A powerful computer system renders the virtual environment in real-time based on the camera's position and movement, so a crew can see the final composition on the screens.
🔵 Step 6: Real-Time Feedback: A crew make immediate adjustments and creative decisions.
🔵 Step 7: Post-Production Integration: small adjustments, such as fine-tuning, color grading, and adding additional effects

Serving as a digital testament to the aftermath of Russian aggression, "Murals" seeks to captivate the world's attention through the renowned medium of street art.

Having made its World debut at the Cannes Festival in the spring, the project has since taken part in other prestigious festivals and even earned some awards.

Our project, Murals, has earned another award from the international creative community. CICLOPE, a festival uniting creative professionals worldwide, serves as a hub for inspiration, professional networking, and celebrating outstanding craftsmanship.

CICLOPE diligently assesses and presents excellence in craft, and we're delighted to announce their recognition of a project we hold dear. Our Murals project, depicting the realities of the Ukrainian war developed by Artem Ivanenko in collaboration with Alex Topaller and Dan Shapiro from Aggressive, has been honoured with the Bronze Award in the Live Experience category.

The recent writers' strike and studio cutbacks caused a slowdown in Hollywood that had a ripple effect well beyond California's borders. Even though our virtual production studio is located far from Los Angeles and doesn't primarily focus on screenplays, we felt the consequences of the film industry's decline.

Now, after facing various challenges and delays, the film industry is ready to get back on track. We're excited to be part of this resurgence, emphasizing creativity and innovation.

Stay tuned for upcoming projects! And don't hesitate to share your ideas with us. Let's bring them to life together! 🎥✨

Can we make it to the top loved of the artists' list at the BFI London Film Festival ? You bet we can!

A creative team, representing Ukraine, Poland, Spain, and Estonia, led by our Art Director, Artem Ivanenko , and Mriya Production overall, alongside brilliant US directors Alex Topaller and Dan Shapiro, unveiled an immersive 3D installation vividly portraying the impact of the war in Ukraine. Using 3D scanning on Banksy's artwork and Unreal Engine, 'MURALS' project reminds the world that the war continues and impacts the global economy, even as it fades from the spotlight.
And the public heard us out. We received the London Film Festival Audience Award for Best Art and XR!

We're thrilled to be recognized and committed to conveying impactful messages through technology.

Feeling nostalgic and looking back in time to when we were just about to open the doors for the first visitors at Festival de Cannes 🌿

The film was created in Unreal Engine and displayed on LED screens, showcasing the powerful murals crafted by the renowned artist Banksy in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

“This project is our letter to today’s generation of Ukrainians, to our friends and colleagues, to the people whose bombed-out houses we scanned for this project, and to the heroes who are in the trenches at this very moment – we will remember everything, we will not stay quiet.” - sais Artem Ivanenko, 3D artist and initiator of the project.

In the interview with Adam Bennett from LBBonline - Little Black Book, Radoslawa Bardes ( Virtual), Maciej Żemojcin (PixelRace), Artem Ivanenko (Mriya Production), Dan Shapiro, Alex Topaller (Aggressive) and Federico Gonzalez Montoya discussed MURALS - one of our latest projects:

"Banksy is intriguing, so everyone will start wondering, why did he actually go to Ukraine? And why is Banksy intriguing: because his art is worth thousands and millions, laying on the street. People don't understand this, which is why they're so intrigued by what Banksy is trying to say. And that's how it all started, it was the key for Western European viewers to understand Ukraine," emphasized Radoslawa Bardes.

The project MURALS is still ongoing because the war in Ukraine has not yet come to an end. Instead of focusing on what could have been done differently, the project team is looking ahead to the future and how they can further develop the Murals initiative. MURALS has received more than twenty invitations from various parts of the world, including Europe, the USA, and Japan.

"This message is just beginning to reach the audience, and we believe it will cause waves and reactions that Ukraine needs. We would not be able to accomplish this project and such a wide audience without help from the Polish Film Institute, which was the first in Europe to create a special fund to support Polish - Ukrainian initiatives" - Maciej Żemojcin concluded the interview.

"We demonstrated phenomenal resilience during the worst phase of this invasion. We had a working banking system, utility services, the Internet was always available. There were certain companies that could work remotely. We won Eurovision." - says a civil society activist, entrepreneur, our dear CEO of Mriya Production, and now a lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine Артем Романюков (Artem Romaniukov) in the series of documentaries about Ukrainians, who are actively contributing to the victory ✊

Thanks to him and hundreds of thousands of brave Ukrainians - volunteers, military, and civilians, who found their role in this war - we can live, love, dream big and fulfill our dreams in working on complex tasks and delivering projects on time! 🦄

We are thrilled to share the results of our collaboration with RiTE Media for Diageo!

This hologram table was developed for Talisker 🥃, and its newly renovated coastal home on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

The highlight of the immersive visitor attraction has become our 3D models of the actual headquarters of whiskey brands around the world. For this, we used topographical data from openstreetmap.org and photos of locations from Google Maps.

Also, the table itself is programmed with a sequencer, so that the event host can control the hologram with a remote control - just like in the demo video below.

Back in peaceful times, we were dreaming of hyper-realistic 3D environments.
We could not even imagine that one day Stalker's story turns into reality.

Since February 25, every dawn brings more and more details into the apocalyptical landscapes of wartime Ukraine.
But unlike Stalker's path, we are not alone. And Russian Federation didn't expect us to fight this hard on all fronts.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine, our volunteers, and the whole civilized world restrain the Kremlin's and Lukashenko's troops by all means. And we are eternally grateful for every piece of help and support!

Here in Mriya, we are putting our strongest professional and personal qualities to good.
So we'll come back later and show you how dramatically this war has changed our roles and rules of life for the whole nation. We are stronger now and will never forget the crime against humanity.

Stay tuned and pray for world peace 🙏🏻
