The Japanese Dragonet inhabits the temperate regions of Japan at depths of 1 to 10 metres and spawns from late May to early July. About an hour before sunset, males begin courting the females within their territory. Upon gaining the female’s consent, the pair starts to ascend together. The female begins to lay eggs around 50 cm above the seabed, while the male releases s***m, resulting in the formation of fertilised eggs. This behaviour is repeated until sunset.

飯島氏新連鰭䲗棲息在日本溫帶地區，深度為1至10米，5月底至7月初繁殖。大約在日落前一小時，雄魚開始在其領地內求偶。當獲得雌魚的同意後，這對魚就會一起上升。雌魚會開始在離海床約50公分處產卵，而雄魚會釋放精子，從而形成受精卵。這種行為會一隻持續到日落。
