The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted an extension to the stay order on the Lahore Master Plan 2050. The court has also allowed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to implement the 2016 plan.
The decision was made earlier today during a hearing presided over by Justice Shahid Karim, who heard the case filed by citizen Mian Abdur Rehman against the 2050 Master Plan.
During the hearing, the LDA lawyer stated that the governing body is obligated to approve the services of international experts in accordance with the rules.

However, Justice Karim expressed concern that the caretaker Punjab government does not have any intentions of relinquishing power.

Following the arguments made during the hearing, the high court ordered the government to utilize the services of international experts to review the Master Plan 2050.
It is worth noting that the Lahore Master Plan 2050 was approved by former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Pervaiz Elahi, during the 8th meeting of the LDA governing body last year.

In December of the same year, Justice Shahid Karim also expressed his concerns regarding the plan, stating that the future of agricultural land has been jeopardized.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister (PM) and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tweeted on Sunday that the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) Cancer Hospital in Karachi will be inaugurated by the end of 2023.

In the tweet, Khan provided photographs of the construction site and noted that, despite construction industry hurdles and difficulties in acquiring cancer equipment, the hospital is still on track to be operational by the end of the year.

The SKMT in Karachi will be double the size of the SKMT in Lahore and will incorporate cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment equipment.

It is noteworthy that Khan launched the hospital project, which is situated in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA) City, in 2016. The DHA management had assigned 20 acres of land in the center of the city for its establishment. The project was initially estimated to cost Rs. 4.5 billion.

The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust, named after Khan’s mother, who died of cancer in 1985, has developed a number of hospitals, labs, and research facilities around Pakistan since its conception in 1994.

Islamabad United’s aggressive batter Asif Ali has said that he was focused on making his side win the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Talking exclusively to Geo News, the 30-year-old Islamabad United star said that he was eagerly waiting for the action and praying that all goes well amidst the fifth wave of COVID19 in the country.
“We are very balanced side. I must say that United’s management is always spot-on with their emerging picks, they know the player who’s doing well at the domestic level, they pick them – provide them a bigger stage and allow them to knock selectors’ doors for Pakistan team” he said.

Sharing his thoughts on life in a bio-secure bubble, Asif said that it is more difficult than one can imagine especially for the players who’re struggling with form as they won’t have anywhere else to go other than sitting isolated in the rooms.

He urged the fans to follow COVID-19 protocols when they come to the stadium for PSL matches.

Pakistani opener batsman and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan has been named as the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year by the top cricket governing body following a stellar year in the shortest format of the game.

The star batman ruled the roost in the shortest format of the game in 2021. He amassed staggering 1,326 runs in only 29 matches and struck at an average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89. Rizwan struck 196 fours in these games which is also the highest by any batter in the T20s in 2021.

Apart from his top-notch batting, the 29-year-old was as solid as ever behind the stumps, playing a crucial role in Green shirts’ advancement to the semis during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

Rising Pakistani boxer Muzaffar Khan knocked out the Afghan opponent and bagged the Arabian Sea Championship title in the country’s federal capital on Saturday.
Reports in local media said the match lasted for five rounds. The 27-year-old Pakistani ringster earlier seemed defensive as his Afghan rival Samir displayed aggression and agility.

The boxers from the neighboring countries exhibited great spirit as they fought with more vigor and prowess while the Pakistani boxer dealt the final blow to the Afghan rival, knocking him out in the fifth round of the 10-round super welter bout at the Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex.

Muzaffar, also known as Prince Khan, commended the administration for organizing the event, and he also hailed his coaches. “I have been working hard for the title for the last three years”, he said while speaking after the fight.

Pakistan Professional Boxing League Chairman General (r) Ahsanul Haq also appreciated the World Boxing Council for giving Pakistan the opportunity to organize the event.

The prime minister was speaking to SAPM for Youth Affairs Usman Dar, Lahore Qalandars’ head coach Aaqib Javed, CEO Rana Atif and skipper Shaheen Afridi at his office in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the Lahore Qalandars delegation informed the PM about the talent hunt programme held recently in collaboration with the Kamyab Jawan Programme and the inclusion of discovered young talent in the next PSL.

PM Imran Khan appreciated Lahore Qalandars and Kamyab Jawan Programme for their efforts.

He appreciated the performance of Shaheen Shah Afridi in the T20 World Cup 2021 and advised him to work hard and continue to play his positive role for Pakistan cricket.

“The selection of young captain is a good decision of Lahore Qalandars management,” the premier said.

He said that the youth have always changed the results, adding “Lahore Qalandars have created their own unique position in the franchise, holding talent hunt at the grassroots level is their speciality.”

LAHORE – At least three dead and 26 others sustained injuries during a blast at Paan Mandi in Anarkali Bazaar on Thursday.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the blast site – a prize bond shop – in Anarkali Bazaar near Lahore’s historic Walled City. Police took control of the situation and cordoned off the blast site.

The wounded were rushed to the nearby Mayo Hospital. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Ramzan, resident of Ferozewala, and a child aged 10-12, Zeeshan, hospital officials said.
The windows of nearby shops and buildings left shattered due to the blast.

The shop caught fire after the explosion reducing it to ashes as forensic experts said that a time device was used to detonate the bomb.

Police earlier said that it appeared to be a cylinder blast while the Rescue 112 officials said it looked like a bomb blast.

Punjab IGP took notice of the blast and sought a report from Lahore CCPO.

Lahore Deputy Inspector-General of Operations Dr.Muhammad Abid Khan told the media that the investigation was in the initial stages and the nature of the blast was being ascertained.

The police official said the blast caused a 1.5 feet-deep-hole in the ground, while the injured people had been shifted to Mayo Hospital.

Students of the COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) have turned to social media to criticize the university for heavily charging them for various services. The university is on the receiving end for not organizing the convocation and increasing the degree issuance fee to Rs. 11,000.

Several students have taken up the issue of the varsity charging a hefty amount — two to three times higher compared to private universities — for various services.

In one such complaint, a student accused CUI of looting people, saying: “COMSATS is charging Rs. 11,000 for the degree. For last two years, no convocation [has been] held, yet charging this amount for a degree.”

He revealed that the university did not even refund the security fee, though it was bound to do so.

Commenting on the post, another student said he was charged Rs. 19,000 for his degree. “The black market is at its peak,” the student added.

It is to note that on similar grounds, students criticized the COMSATS Islamabad many times in the past also.

ISLAMABAD – Senior Pakistani film and television actor Rasheed Naz has breathed his last at the age of 73 on Monday.

Rasheed's son Hasan Noman speaking with a leading publication said his father was suffering from several health issues and was admitted to a hospital in Islamabad where he passed away earlier today. The actor's body was brought to Peshawar for his funeral, which will be held today.

Rasheed’s daughter-in-law Madiha Rizvi, who is also an actress, also shared the demise in a social media post saying “Our beloved Baba Rashid Naz passed away this morning. Please recite Surah Al-Fatihah for the departed soul”.

Rasheed Naz has appeared in a number of movies and television dramas. He was born on September 9, 1948, in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and started his television career as an actor in Pushto television play. The noted actor also worked in Pakistan's first private television play Dasht, telecast on NTM.

His first Urdu film was Syed Noor's Dakait while he also worked in Shoaib Mansoor's hit Khuda Ke Liye.
