A Salute to our Nation's Heroes 🇵🇭

Today, on the last Monday of August, Filipinos annually honor national heroes who fought for the country’s freedom and justice.

Amidst the late Spanish colonial period, the Cry of Pugad Lawin began which took place in the sitio of Pugad Lawin in Balintawak on August 23, 1896, where members of the Katipunan led by Andrés Bonifacio, became united as one as they tore their “cedulas”, a symbol of enslavements for Filipino historians, and then this marked as the beginning of Philippine Revolution.

We commemorate the sacrifices and bravery of every hero, in hope to inspire each one of us to protect and serve our beloved country.

Rizal Shooters Club and Pied-A-Tere Manila Incorporation have assured 18 Caysmerinians a one-year scholarship grant as part of their commitment to the school's Adopt-a-Caysmerinian program, during the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School (CAYSMNHS) on August 12.

"Hindi po ito panghabang buhay, pero, sa tulong ng Diyos, kapag kami po ay patuloy na pinapalad, itutuloy po natin ito. Sa ngayon po, ang MOA ay naka-1 taon muna tayo. Kapag maganda ang ating naging takbo ng programa, tuloy-tuloy po ito," said Rizal Shooters Club President Jose Nido Umali in an interview.

READ : DepEd Secretary Angara on MATATAG: 'Initial feedback is expected, Changes will be made'

Emphasizing that the MATATAG curriculum is still in its pilot phase, newly appointed DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara explained that adjustments may be necessary as the program continues to be implemented.

In an interview during his visit at Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School on July 29, Angara acknowledged that initial feedback from teachers and students is expected and reassured that the Department is prepared to make changes based on this feedback.

"Well syempre unang salta pa lang ng MATATAG curriculum so hindi ako magugulat kung may mga komento ang mga g**o natin at ang mga estudyante na parang itong aspeto na ‘to ay hindi epektibo. At ‘yon handa tayo para kasing pilot lang talaga siya, ibig sabihin unang salta, pwede pang baguhin," he said.

Angara also addressed the ongoing issue of classroom shortages, noting that despite available funding, the construction process can be slow. He stressed the need to expedite this process to keep pace with the growing population.

“Well kahit nandyan yung pondo, minsan mabagal tayo gumawa or mag construct ng mga silid aralan so dapat bilisan din natin yung proseso kasi lumalaki ang populasyon,” Angara said.

Furthermore, he assured that through the Expanded Career Progression, teachers will no longer need to work overseas as more teaching positions will be opened to facilitate promotions.

Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial National High School welcomed Department of Education and government officials on the first day of school, July 29. Their visit aimed to greet students and check on the school's preparations for the upcoming academic year.

In an interview, DepEd CALABARZON's Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Loida Nidea expressed both excitement and satisfaction with the school opening, highlighting the resilience of students and stakeholders in continuing school, despite the challenging weather conditions.

"Very meaningful, and exciting. Meaningful kasi nakita namin that despite the rain, the classes went on, and we saw the stakeholders participate. And exciting because we saw the smile, and the enthusiasm of its pupils and learners in the classroom," ARD Nidea explained.

When asked about possible solutions aside from remote learning, for adapting to changing seasons, ARD Nidea still prefers face-to-face classes, but if other alternatives are viable, delivering instructions via radio based methods could be considered.

"We can always go to face-to-face talaga, and of course kung may ibang alternative, the deliver the most can be radio-based instructions if viable," she stated.

Present also in the school monitoring are DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, Gov. Nina A. Ynares, Mayor Alan De Leon, Regional Director Atty. Alberto T. Escobarte, ARD Dr.Loida N. Nidea , Schools Division Superintent Dr. Doris DJ. Estalilla, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Alona A. Encinares, SDO personnel, local government officials, and stakeholders.

Honoring fearless journalists who bring us the truth!

Today, as we commemorate 2024 World Press Freedom Day, a significant day to honor and uphold the fundamental principle of press freedom that is annually observed on May 3, we look back at the challenges faced by journalists and media organizations—such as threats, censorship, and violence—just to disseminate information and the truth to the public, hold those in power accountable, and counter disinformation, reminding us that being a journalist is not an easy job.

This year, the 31st World Press Freedom Day Conference will be held by the Government of Chile and UNESCO in Santiago, with the theme "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis."

Beat the heat!

While El Niño approaches, heat stroke becomes prevalent; once your body overheats caused usually from prolonged exposure to sunlight, it leads to dangerously high body temperature which may cause dizziness, headaches, heavy sweating and more.

According to PAG-ASA; Iloilo, Capiz and La Union are recorded to have the highest Heat Index, from 44-46°C, from March 01 - March 29, 2024.

Don't forget to drink water, avoid long exposure to sunlight or stay indoors, and wear thin, loose and light-coloured shirts to keep ourselves cool and absorb less heat.

38TH ANNIVERSARY OF EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION

Today, we commemorate a memorable event from the past—the EDSA People Power Revolution, on its 38th anniversary on February 25, 1986.

During the time of people's power, millions gathered on Epifanio de Los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the main road of Manila, holding the stroll of memory who marched along to end the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Almost four decades might have passed, yet this day still holds a weight in the Philippines' history, holding the voice and scream of people within the main artery of Manila.
