All Saints Day 🙏🕯

There's a yearly reminder of our connectedness as Christians to the church. It's called "All Saints Day" and is commemorated every November 1st.

Perhaps, you were taught to think of saints as statues in a church building. But the Bible teaches something completely different. Who is a saint? YOU ARE. That is, if you’re a follower of Jesus. God calls a "saint" those who trust in Christ alone for salvation (see Acts 9:13, Acts 26:10, Romans 8:27, 1 Corinthians 1:2).

All Saints Day, also known as All Hallows' Day, or Hallowmas, is a Christian celebration in honor of all the saints from Christian history.

11/06/2023

June 12 of 1898 in Kawit, Cavite the first president of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo had proclaimed the independence of the Philippines from the Spanish Colonial Rule. This event had many first times, such as the national anthem being sung for the first time in public and how the Philippine flag was displayed and shown publicly as well. At that point the year of 1962 under the 9th presidency, Diosdado Macapagal had declared that June 12 as the Philippine’s independence day or known as “Araw ng Kalayaan” and “Araw ng Kasarinlan”. Furthermore, the Republic Act 4166 has stated that the freedom day of the Philippines had been moved to June 12 rather than July 4.

However, back in August 1896 when the start of the revolution had taken place where the “Cry of Balintawak” made its name into the history of the Philippines. It became a war for the country’s freedom and independence. It was a declaration that no matter what, the “Katipunan” that was led by Andres Bonifacio had declared that they will fight for our nation regardless of their lives. This was the time the members had tore their cedula to refute the Spanish oppressors. An important step towards the declaration of independence day as the Katipunan had tried to gain freedom for our country.

As Diosdado Macapagal had said “A nation is born into freedom on the day when such a people molded into a nation by a process of cultural evolution and a sense of oneness born of common struggle and suffering, announces to the world that it asserts its natural right to liberty and is ready to defend it with blood, life and honor.” The Philippines’ freedom was not just given, it was fought and died for. It was not just granted by our colonizers but we deservedly claimed it. We Filipinos must always remember the sacrifice and the bloodshed our nation and people before that made our country’s independence day celebrated. Keeping in mind our true nationalism and love for our country despite the colonizations it had gone through, the Philippines had fought until the end of it. Rise and shine our country must do to remember this day of independence.

09/04/2023

On this day, April 10, we honor our heroes here in our country, also known as “Araw ng Kagitingan” or “Day of Valor” in english. Us Filipinos know the national heroes and the lives of many who have sacrificed themselves for the freedom of our country. Today, we acknowledge those lives, their valor, courage, determination and their love for our country. According to pia.gov.ph the 81st Araw ng Kagitingan has this year’s theme that aims to recognize and remember the veterans who had utmost courage and sacrifices that built the very first start of our country’s freedom. The foundation of our country’s freedom will always be remembered for they have made it.

The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) along with The Department of National Defense (DND) has proceeded on with the 2023 Philippine Veterans Week (PVW), starting from April 5 to April 12. There had been a sunrise ceremony on its first day, April 5th, followed by the Wreath-laying Ceremony, this is to offer flowers as a tribute to those who have passed. The ceremony occurred at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City. Originally, Araw ng Kagitingan should be commemorated on April 9th, however it was moved to this day April 10th, in accordance with Proclamation No. 90, s. 2022 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. At 8:00 am the commemoration will start at the Mt. Samat National Shrine, Pilar Bataan where the Dambana ng Kagitingan is placed or also known as Shrine of Valor. On the next day, April 11th at 8:00 am, there will be a tribute to all Filipino Heroes that will be recognized in the Paggunita sa Capas.

On the last day of the Philippines Veteran Week, the commemoration shall be celebrated at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. There will be a Sunset Ceremony held at 5:00 pm, the Veterans Community will assemble and speak about the stories, traditions and others about the heroes and veterans then they will recite a Pledge of Patriotism. The Department of Education (DepEd) along with PVAO, the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) and VFP-Sons and Daughters Association, Inc will help further commemorate and promote Araw ng Kagitingan by running national competitions for students nationwide that includes, Poster Making Contest, Essay Writing Contest, a Song Writing Contest and an Oratorical Contest in this month April 2023.

Truly that this commemoration must be remembered to recognize how much heroes and lives were sacrificed for our beloved country. As the people of our country we will and must always honor and with great respect for them through our actions that reflect in our lives as Filipinos.

24/02/2023

February 25, 1986 a revolutionary change was made within the voices of the democratic Filipino people. 37 years have passed since the voices and wills of the Filipino people have been heard loudly. Our nation was gathered and millions of Filipinos marched on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue or EDSA in short, for the purpose of ending the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The People Power Revolution February 25, 1986, was truly a revolution and altered the pathway and course of our history. This movement was a change for the rise of our lost liberty.

The People Power Revolution started on February 22, 1986, three days before its final day. This is the time where crowds start to convene in front of Camp Crame along EDSA. Juan Ponce Enrile, who was the secretary of National Defense and Fidel Ramos, the head of Philippine Constabulary at that time quit from the administration of Marcos and launched a coup d’etat against Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Two leaders and their own troops did the same that led Marcos Sr. to an disadvantage.

February 23, 1986, Cardinal Jaime Sin, the 30th Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila encouraged the masses, more and more people were gathered in EDSA and supported the act for the departure of Marcos Sr. yet after that, militaries arrived with artillery tanks. February 24, 1986 the militaries that had arrived and the camp of Marcos threatened the masses that they would attack. However, further people kept accumulating and increased in numbers against Ferdinand Marcos’ administration until the last day of the revolution came. February 25, 1986 there were no turning backs, a crucial point in history. The military started collapsing and falling down. Soldiers waved a white flag to join the people and heed their voices against Ferdinand Marcos Sr. . With the immense power of the nation and its people, Cory Aquino’s camp started to prepare to elect her as the new president of the country.

Cory Aquino declared under oath as the new President to Senior Justice Claudio Teehankee meanwhile Senate Salvador Laurel swore to be the Vice President. Ferdinand Marcos did not leave the Malacañang Palace and also swore that he remains as President, shootings have been caught and the transmitters of broadcasts showing Ferdinand Marcos’ oath were shooted. But even amidst the violence and chaos, the people's power remained and the democracy of the nation was empowered. Then, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and his family successfully departed from the Malacañang Palace. This movement and the people’s power that removed a dictatorship in the country was all over the radios and announced. On that moment forth, Filipinos declared themselves and their democracy had been victorious.

In remembrance of this historical event and revolution, let us stand for democracy and ensure to not let the nation be in the hands of a dictator. And ensure the long-lasting freedom of our people and ourselves.
