Ninoy Aquino Day

Today, the 21st of August, we are celebrating Ninoy Aquino Day to commemorate the life and death of Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr., commonly known as “Ninoy” Aquino.

Ninoy Aquino Day is commemorated yearly to honor his death, which was significantly recorded on August 21, 1983, at Manila International Airport, known as Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Aquino’s assassination led to the 1986 EDSA Revolution and his wife, Corazon Aquino to run for Presidency. The holiday was signed into law by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo under Republic Act on February 25, 2004. 9256, many years after Ninoy's death.

This day, we pay homage to him for his heroism, his legacy, and the sacrifices he made for the people of the Philippines.

International Memorial Day for Comfort Women

Today, August 14, marks as the International Memorial Day for Comfort Women. This occasion represents woman power and gives light to the brutal mistreatment women faced during World War II.

Comfort women or comfort girls are those who were forced into prostitution by the Imperial Japanese Army in occupied countries and territories before and during World War II.

The term "comfort woman" is a translation of the Japanese ianfu (慰安婦), which means "comforting, consoling woman."

Hundreds and thousands of women from Korea, Vietnam, China, even the Philippines, and other nations were forced into brothels during WWII, where they were intimately enslaved and frequently molested.

The estimate of how many women were involved varies, with most historians settling on approximately 50,000-200,000; specific statistics continue to be investigated and discussed.

Many comfort women perished as Allied troops overpowered Japan's Pacific defenses and devastated Japanese encampments because they were forced to travel to battlefields with the Japanese Imperial Army. When the Japanese military suffered defeat in battles with the Allied Forces, they executed Korean comfort ladies in some cases. During Japan's final struggle in 1944-45, "comfort women" were frequently forced to take their own lives or they will be killed.

To all the pillars in every family's home: Happy Father's Day

Today, we acknowledge the selflessness, sacrifices, strength, resiliency, and love of a father. There are many things to be thankful for, but we thank you for making us feel safe and protected, turning our frowns upside down by simply telling us jokes, providing for our daily needs, and being a good husband.

Do not forget to greet the pillar in everybody's home with a very happy Father's Day. Let's make them feel that we love and appreciate them, and above all, they are important in our lives.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads anywhere else in the world!

125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood

Independence Day, or in Filipino: Araw ng Kasarinlan; also Araw ng Kalayaan, lit. "Day of Freedom", is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed on the 12th of June, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. The day of celebration of war and love varied throughout the nation's history.

The day came as the Independence Day of the Philippines by Presidential Proclamation No. 28, issued by then-president Diosdado Macapagal on May 12, 1962. The proclamation declared June 12 a memorable public holiday throughout the Philippines, "... in commemoration of our people's declaration of their inherent and inalienable right to freedom and independence."

Many individuals, including government officials, employees, and students, participate in nationwide parades. The major attraction, though, is the police and military parade in Manila led by the country's current president, which is followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute. Many Filipinos spend their days at parks and shopping malls. Many Filipino communities in other nations also celebrate the country's Independence Day.

LIVE WITH PRIDE

"The beauty of standing up for your rights is others see you standing and stand up as well." – Advice columnist Cassandra Duffy

Pride Month is about individuals who are LGBTQ+ being themselves and standing up for their freedom; it is a lovely tribute to those who rioted for their rights.

Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning Pride Month (LGBTQ+ Pride Month) is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969 and to advocate for equal justice and opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community. In June 1969, patrons and supporters of New York City's Stonewall Inn held a demonstration against police harassment and persecution of members of the LGBTQ+ community. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to make discriminatory laws and practices directed at the LGBTQ+ community illegal.

You can be an ally even if you are not a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Being a good ally requires understanding what LGBTQ+ means. There will be parades of people flooding the streets to celebrate the month of June, and that's where understanding comes in; monitor your language and make sure your LGBTQ+ friends feel comfortable the entire time you're together.

Again, Happy Pride Month to everyone!

GRADE 12 STEM ROSEBELLIANS PERFORM DISSECTION AS FINAL TASK IN BIOLOGY

WARNING: SENSITIVE CONTENT. Some people may find the graphic to be disturbing.

On May 5, 2023, Rosebelle Academy held its frog dissection among the Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students as a partial fulfillment for their subject, Biology, which took place in two of the school's facilities: the Biology Laboratory and the Chemistry Laboratory.

Students shown here were performing vertebrate anatomy dissection on frogs, one of the commonly used specimens for school-related dissection. They were also instructed to pitch the specimen and immobilize the frog instead of following established laboratory procedures.

Their main objective was to dissect the frog and explore the bones composing their chosen specimen.

As the first batch of students in the said activity successfully finished dissecting, they were later assigned to label and create a visual representation of the skeletal system of their group’s dissected frog.

Half of the population of grade 12 STEM students had an enthusiastic experience, while another half is getting ready for their schedule of dissecting next week.

Congratulations on the outstanding work, Rosebellians!

SEMINAR BY PESO: CAREER COACHING IN ROSEBELLE ACADEMY

With over 150 participants, Rosebelle Academy of Tarlac Inc., in a joint venture with the Public Employment Service Office or PESO from the Municipality of Victoria, held a Career Guidance Seminar on Friday, May 5, 2023, in the old TVL room.

The said conference had been divided into two segments. The first one, which was participated in by completers from the 10th level, started from nine o'clock to half past ten in the morning. With Ms. Trixcie S. Cordoba and Sir Juan Carlos N. Almelon as resource speakers, they ended the discussion with a quotation "...While every student has his [own] interests and should be given the opportunity to study the field he [is] interested in, he [also] has to take into consideration the country's need for skills..."

"If you want that job, pursue it, and money will just easily come to you," said Sir T***s while imparting practical advice.

"Kapag gusto mo ang ginagawa mo, para ka lang naglalaro," he added before the first session came to an end.

Consequently, the second segment covered topics about resumes, job interviews, and the like. With the involvement of grade 12 students from various sections, Sir Domingo Gamido Jr. and Sir Edlyn John Agustin, both administrative aides, led the discourse. A simulated job application interview also paved the way to end the seminar.

Each guest speaker received certificates as an acknowledgment of their precious time and effort.

'ROSEBELLE'S FUTURE SCIENTISTS!'

With a theme of “The Real-Life Application of Projectile Motion and Gas Laws”, the students from grades 9A, 9B, and 10C of Rosebelle Academy of Tarlac, Inc., recently conducted a Science Fair about the real-life application of Projectile Motion and Gas Laws today, May 4, 2023, at the school's gymnasium.

Six groups from grades 9A, 9B, and 10C showcased their skills and creativity through their instructional material (IM) models, which were presented and explained to the panel of judges including Ma'am Rose P. Liñan, Ma'am Ma. Venus B. Tolentino, Ma’am Imelyn Urbano, and Sir TJ Balmores.

Each group also demonstrated inventiveness in naming their models. The first group called theirs “Angry Sci-Bird”, “Stomp Rocket” for the second group, “Shoot mo, Babe!” for the third group, and “Pneumono-law-gist”, “Mesofuente”, “Calorlaponica Charta”, and “Pre-volt Law” for the following ones.

The said activity aimed to make learning science more enjoyable while showcasing students' exceptional skills in matter and motion. It truly is a fun way to learn with the help of these IM models!

Ms. Nerissa T. Montaño, their subject teacher, facilitated the exhibit.

Job well done, Rosebellians! Until our next Science Fair!

SALUTE TO ALL FILIPINO LABORERS!

Labor Day is observed yearly on May 1 to honor hardworking Filipinos worldwide. In Filipino, it is known as 'Araw ng mga Manggagawa'. Filipinos take things leisurely and relish their days with family and friends. Celebrations include labor actions and parades at Malacanang (the former American Governor's house, now the Presidential palace) and in major cities such as Manila. These actions draw awareness to their grievances, which include the minimum wage, poor working conditions, and other issues that violate employees' rights. Every hardworking Filipino, regardless of career, gets celebrated on this day.

On May 1, 1903, Labor Day was inaugurated in the Philippines. The "Union Obrera Democratica de Filipina (U.O.D.F.)," the country's first labor organization, staged a rally from Tondo's Plaza Moriones to Malacanang. These workers protested the then-American-led regime, demanding higher wages and improved working conditions. The event has been recognized as one of Manila's earliest street protests.

To commemorate this holiday, make sure to assist your loved ones who work tirelessly, day and night, allow them to rest as much as they need, and ensure that they always feel comfortable.

Thank you for your efforts, Filipino laborers!

'O HAPPY DAGGER. THIS IS THY SHEATH.'

Ninth graders from sections Integrity and Justice, showcased their acting skills as they excellently revitalized and brought off a famous tragedy play— Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.

This is about two young lovers from an age-old feuding families, who instantly fell in love with each other and tried to conquer the world, even death.

The following is an excerpt from Romeo and Juliet (Act 5 Scene 1):

"O my love, my wife, Dear Juliet, why art thou yet so fair? O here will I set up my everlasting rest," said Romeo.

"Here’s to my love. O true apothecary, Thy drugs are quick," he added as he drank the poison.

Romeo falls. Juliet rises.

"Romeo!" said Juliet after seeing her husband.

"What’s here closed in my true love’s hand? Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end. O churl! Drunk all, and left no friendly drop To help me after?".

Movement is heard outside the tomb.

"Yea noise? O happy dagger. This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die." Juliet's last line before she stabbed herself and fell.

The said play was an academic performance task in their English subject facilitated by Ms. Edna Liwliwa C. Gabuyo.

Job well done, Rosebellians!

ROSEBELLE ACADEMY CONDUCTS SYMPOSIUM ADDRESSING TEENAGE PREGNANCY

"You’re supposed to be changing the world—not changing diapers. Enjoy your youth by being a kid, not raising one."

A quotation from the symposium conducted by Rosebelle Academy of Tarlac, Inc., on April 20, 2023, headed by healthcare professionals from the Rural Health Unit 1 of Victoria, Tarlac.

The said activity tackled the importance of awareness about teenage pregnancy, which is one of the leading obstacles the country is facing right now.

The session was divided into two segments. Ms. Lielani G. Gambito, RN, led the first batch, which included students from Grades 7 and 8, with assistance from Ms. Samantha Yzabel Bautista, Ms. Jansen Icynth G. Bintulan, and Ms. Elyza Beth A. Sagun. While students from Grades 9 and 10 attended the second batch, headed by Ms. Emis Win Jade G. De Jesus, RM, together with Ms. Angela A. Gamalinda, RN, RM, Dr. Nelin C. Tacasa, MD, and Ms. Ma. Victoria M. Bucao.

Teenage pregnancy, also known as adolescent pregnancy, is a serious social issue and is mainly one of the many reasons why an increasing number of students drop out of school.

The conference concluded with the phrase, “Isip-Isip Before You Unzip,” aiming to raise awareness among youth and reduce the number of teenage pregnancies along with the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases.

After the session, each guest speaker received certificates as an acknowledgment for their precious time and effort.

National Women’s Month

Every March, the Philippines acknowledges Women's Month. Since 1988, Filipinos have dedicated the entire month to highlighting the great achievements of the country's women and raising awareness about domestic violence, gender discrimination, and other daily challenges that women face. This event includes commemorating International Women's Day, which was established by the United Nations as a day for individuals all around the globe to discuss the protection of human and civil liberties, as well as gender equality.

Filipino women have battled generations for the ability to cast ballots and to participate in politics. The national suffrage movement was founded in 1907, but women were not allowed to engage in political development for another 30 years. Filipinos value a good education, and lower-income families believe that if their children study hard, they will be able to succeed in life.

It's a chance to reflect on the trailblazing women who are paving the way for change in areas — from scientific knowledge and transcendent technology to closing the digital gender gap and even broadening economics and politics. This day is observed in many countries around the world with demonstrations, educational programs, as well as other traditions such as giving gifts and flowers to women.

What can you do to take an active part in this beautiful commemoration? There are numerous ways to express your appreciation for women. Buy her flowers, write her a heartfelt letter, or perhaps take her out to dinner; there are countless ways to express gratitude for a woman's sacrifices.

VICTORIA BRINGS HOME THE VICTORY AS THE 2ND RUNNER-UP IN THE BINIBINING KANLAHI 2023 RACE

"Youth nowadays, aren't just youth. We are leaders; we are game changers." a remarkable quotation from Ms. Mary Joy Cabusao of Victoria that paved the way to bring home the title of 2nd runner-up during the grand coronation night of Binibining Kanlahi 2023 which was held at the Maria Cristina Park of Tarlac City on March 9.

Along with the 18 gorgeous women from around the province of Tarlac who are competing for the crown, Miss Victoria became one of the most noticeable ladies, which earned her several minor awards that include Miss Photogenic, Miss Rustica, Miss Arraboo, and Miss City Walk.

After flaunting the candidates' sexiness and elegance in the swimsuit and evening gown competition, the stage intensified as the eliminations begin, narrowing down the number of finalists from 18 to 10, and from the top 10 to the top 5, among which Miss Victoria confidently handled getting in.

In the Final question and answer segment of the competition, the top 5 contenders were asked about their opinion about the study on narcissism suggesting that Filipino youth is turning into a hyper-entitled and self-absorbed generation.

"I think that the youth nowadays, only try to express themselves, to how they envision their selves, to how they wanted to be, and they stay true to themselves. And I am here not just to show, showcase the beauty, the wit, the talent of women, and I know, I support this younger generation because I believe in their innate capacity towards success, towards progress, and towards anything to whatever they set their hearts and minds into, and as a Binibining Kanlahi, I know that, I can, I can exemplify this as a good example, because youth nowadays, aren't just youth; we are leaders; we are game changers." Cabusao answered.

As the awarding began, the whole crowd cheered for their desired candidates. Here's the sequence of the winners:

Bb. Kanlahi 2023 - Vera Dickinson (Concepcion)
Bb. Kanlahi 2023 1st runner-up - Jan Nissa Sicat (Capas)
Bb. Kanlahi 2023 2nd runner-up - Mary Joy Cabusao (Victoria)
Bb. Kanlahi 2023 3rd runner-up - Krizia Iya Santos (Bamban)
Bb. Kanlahi 2023 4th runner-up - Pearly Joy Biala (Tarlac City)

The 37th Anniversary of the People Power Revolution

The EDSA People Power Revolution, also known as the February Revolution, was a three-day campaign of civil resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud. It resulted in the end of Ferdinand Marcos' 20-year autocracy and the Philippines' return to democracy.

From 1965, Ferdinand Marcos presided over the Philippines, restricted civil rights, revised the Philippine constitution after declaring martial law in 1972, and centralized authority in the hands of his closest associates and the executive branch. Tens of thousands of Marcos' opponents were detained, and thousands more were tortured, assassinated, or vanished.

For many years, the U.S. government was content with disregarding the Marcoses' corruption in exchange for a generally pro-bulwark in Southeast Asia. However, by the middle of the 1980s, important foreign policy considerations had turned against Marcos and he proposed a "snap election." Marcos had previously used illegal changes, outright abuse, and other means to swing the scales in his favor during elections.

Marcos confirmed his electoral win, as many had feared. Filipinos, however, resisted believing this falsehood this time. On Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, residents flocked to the streets on February 22. The Manila Archbishop, Cardinal Jaime Sin, strongly urged Filipinos to support the nonviolent demonstrations.

The Manila Archbishop, Cardinal Jaime Sin, urged Filipinos to support the nonviolent demonstrations, and Marcos gave the military the command to put an end to the protest. However, a group of military officers opted to desert rather than crack down on the demonstrators. President Ronald Reagan, a close ally of Marcos, eventually informed him that it was time to "cut, and cut cleanly." The U.S. administration helped Marcos flee to Hawaii on the evening of February 25, where he remained until his passing in 1989.

A significant turning point in Philippine history, the EDSA protests of 1986 radiated an air of boundless hope and potential. Also, it serves as a lesson learned and a warning for future conflicts for people with democratic aspirations.
