In the recently concluded National events which were all held in Cebu, our regional competitors in CLRAA and RSPC who made it also in the said national level, regained wins and one of them also set a record-breaker which attracted attention not only from the participants but also viewers and media practitioners.
One among the Palarong Pambansa athletes who engraved history in athletics is the twelve-year-old Jyane Kirt Cantor from Caanawan Elementary School of our Division, representing Central Luzon (Region III), has garnered attention for setting a new long jump record during the said competition.
The in-coming 6th grade Cantor jumped 6.14 meters, surpassing the 22-year-old record of 6.04 meters set by Jeremie Tamles from the Davao Region during the 2002 Palarong Pambansa in Naga.
Cantor's impressive achievement has brought even more shining pride not only to his school but also in Region III after leading a team and winning another gold in a team event contributing another point in the regional rank.
Also, in the Athletic team of the Division of San Jose City is Sophia Angela Mae Dela Vega who is a yearly participant in the Palarong Pambansa cooped the bronze medal in her event. Dela Vega has been a runner in different venues in the national level. Joined by her mother, Romina dela Vega, an Elementary teacher at San Jose East Central School, who also represented Region III and won gold in Laro ng Lahi event, both brought San Jose City in one of the country’s most awaited sports event.
Aside from Sports, our division also sent Shan V. Macato, a campus journalist who represented Region III in the National Schools Press Conference. Winning the highest place in the Regional Schools Press Conference in Editorial Writing in English (Elementary level), Shan made it to the 5th place contributing a point to our regional rank in the National level. With his place, Region III was placed 4th in the over-all rank in the National Schools Press Conference.
In addition to the achievements mentioned, the Volleyball Boys Elementary team from San Jose West Central School also made a mark by winning silver. Special awards were given to Vince Kian Manganan as the Best Libero and Marcus Bulanhagui as the Best Opposite Spiker. The team, consisting of Marcus Bulanhagui, Jacob Bulanhagui, John Gabriel Calma, Mathew Josh Nava, Vince Kian Manganan, Xian Rafael Lim, Jerome Gatchalian, Carl Sanidad, and Jedrix Pascual, brought pride to their school and the region.
This victory of our learners showcases the dedication and talent that young as they are, they have just proven that the Schools Division of San Jose City has athletes and campus journalists who, in their own way, can bring honor not only to their schools but more so to San Jose City. This milestone is a result of their hard work and determination, serving as an inspiration for others aiming for excellence in sports, journalism and in other competitions. Their record-breaking performance has caught the attention of national media, highlighting the potentials of the next generation of Filipino youth. Their achievement reminds us of the importance of supporting and nurturing young talents in the schools.
With their continued dedication and performance, there is no doubt that these young heroes will achieve even greater heights in the future. Their story highlighted the importance of extensive support for them. Their victory did not just inspire other competitors in all aspects but also exposed them to different environments that are essential for their growth. Who knows, one of them will bring another history in another field someday.
The victory of these young and talented learners caught the attention of our Division and City officials, which, after giving them tribute not only during a Flag Raising Ceremony in the City but also in a motorcade during the Brigada Eskwela kick-off this School Year. But the tribute recognizing their great performance also led the Sangguniang Panlungsod to give them Commendation in a Sanggunian Session last July 24, 2024. And, the peak of the surprise is that the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Ordinance No. 24-022 authored by San Jose City Councilor Patrixie Salvador-Garcia. This ordinance grants cash incentives to individuals, duo, and team players and coaches who excel in sports and other competitions at both regional and national levels. This is indeed a big and historic support that is not just relevant but timely and necessary. It will surely encourage students to strive for better performance and boosts their confidence and participation in various competitions.
Initiatives like this can ignite a fire within our young learners, pushing them beyond their limits. Along with the provision of quality training, guidance, and financial support, Officials can help them reach their full potential and elevate our performance status from local to regional and national competitions.
Cantor’s record-breaking performance, Dela Vega’s sustained place in her event, and the regaining performance of a campus journalist like Macato at the Palarong Pambansa and National Schools Press Conference 2024, and the volleyball team’s achievements, respectively, our pride and inspiration, supporting our young athletes ensures that we continue to witness and celebrate such achievements, listing another victorious performer in the future.
