Reliving the Retro: A Day of Joy and Connection at CASanag's Acquaintance Party 2024

The College of Arts and Sciences at the State University of Northern Negros hosted its highly anticipated Acquaintance Party 2024 on September 13, 2024, at the SUNN Old Sagay Campus Covered Court in Sagay City. With the theme "Retro radiance: Shining bright in vintage vibes," the event transported students back in time to an era of groovy tunes, creating a day of unforgettable memories and new friendships.

The masters of ceremony, Arvin Ortega and Trisha Jol De Asis, welcomed everyone with warmth, and established the tone for the day's event. As the CAS students filled into the venue, they were greeted by a sea of bright decorations and retro-inspired outfits, which created a lively and festive air.

The event featured a series of activities and performances that took place throughout the day. The year levels from the Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in English Language then engaged in a lively yell competition, showcasing their creativity and teamwork.

With great excitement, Ryle Nice P. Jimenez, the Governor of the CAS Student Council, delivered a heartfelt welcoming message to everyone. This was followed by a special segment in which CAS students were chosen at random to walk the stage and display their retro fashion. Cheering and clapping broke out from the audience as the participants strolled their retro-inspired outfits, which included bell bottom jeans or trousers, khaki tops, flapper dresses with sleeves, and poodle skirts.

The fun continued with a series of games and competitions, such as ballon popping (putukan na), charades, and sack race, which brought out the students' competitive side while also offering lots of laughter and chances, for interaction. The pageantry of Mr and Miss Acquaintance 2024 added an extra layer of joy, as the contestants vied for the titles in a series of rounds that measured their wit and charm on stage.

Apart from the activities and performances held at the event there was also a pop dance competition where students showed off their unique dance styles and synchronized movements.

Irene Bella Ong, Vice Governor of the CAS Student Council, gave a moving speech to thank the students for their support and involvement, bringing the event to a wonderful close.

As the academic year comes to a close, the CASanag Gazette celebrates the remarkable achievements of its graduating editorial board members. On June 7th, 2024, the State University of Northern Negros celebrated the commencement of another successful academic year, marking the end of an era.

As student journalists, they have been part of the driving force behind the publication's success because of their tireless effort, steadfast dedication, valuable contributions, and thought provoking ideas, that have helped the CASanag Gazette reach new heights, making it a dependable source of information and inspiration for the entire College of Arts and Sciences Department.

As these exceptional individuals bid farewell to their roles, we greatly extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.

Their contributions have not gone unnoticed, the imprints they left behind will make significant impacts for several years to come to be recognized, and are surely to leave behind a legacy, which will inspire future generations of CASanag student journalists, writers, editors and leaders.

Although their time has come to an end, yet the skills and experiences they have gained, the lessons they have learned, the passion they have developed, and the connections they have forged during their time will undoubtedly lead them well as they enter the route of reality.

Their "๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ๐จ ๐ง๐š", signifies that they've come so far, and went through every tidal wave that wanted to smack them, yet they remain unwavering along the way, despite being uncertain. Their, "๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ๐จ ๐ง๐š" before was nigh at hand, but now that it arrived, they can finally say, "๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐š, ๐š๐›๐จ๐ญ ๐ง๐š".

Dr. Varquez, who had formerly taught students from the College of Information Communication Technology and Engineering in their online French language course, had the opportunity to visit the institution she had previously worked with for the first time.

Dr. Varquez provided a brief overview of the French language and discussed the concept of multilingualism. She shared steps for learning a new language quickly: commit mistakes, enjoy the process, create a system, and be patient. She also highlighted the advantages of being able to converse in multiple languages.

During the afternoon workshop, the students demonstrated their talents in singing as they sang songs in French, Chinese, and Japanese. The purpose of the workshop was to provide students with an avenue to practice and demonstrate their multilingual abilities.

The two-day translingual conference concluded with a dazzling event, ๐†๐ฅ๐š๐ฆ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž: ๐Š๐š๐œ๐ก๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ข๐š๐ง ๐„๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, which took everyone's breath away. The journey began with a focus on building rapport. Students engaged in activities such as group chants, fostering a sense of connection and teamwork. Brief lectures and practical exercises delved into the fundamentals of theater arts, enabling the participants gain a deeper understanding of the craft. As the day drew to a close, the atmosphere buzzed with newfound enthusiasm.

Day two pushed the students' creativity to the limit. They were tasked with creating and interacting with invisible objects, a playful exercise that required imagination and focus. The laughter continued with the "seat, lean, and stand" activity, which challenged participants to perform improvised scenes in groups of three. This day was a whirlwind of creative exploration and amusing moments, leaving participants with unforgettable memories.

The bittersweet final day kicked off with an energetic "zip, zap, zoom" activity. Another exercise centered on mirroring actions, further strengthening the bonds between participants. The culmination arrived at noon as BSEd English 3A presented their play about Dr. Jose Rizal. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they clinched the top spot among competing majors in their college!

The workshop concluded with an impactful speech by Professor Martorillas, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Ms. Amando. Certificates were awarded to the students, marking the completion of their theatrical journey. Although the event ended, the memories forged during this brief yet impactful experience are sure to endure for a lifetime. It was, undoubtedly, a journey filled with fun and learning.

The talkshow of ABELS 3A was inspired by the tabloid show "Face 2 Face." They discussed grammar pet peeves, including the language of a conyo Bisaya individual and the excessive use of highfalutin words. They concluded with reminders to adapt to rapid cultural shifts, eliminate unfounded discrimination, and maintain respect.

ABELS 3B's talk show took a creative twist by featuring notable women in the field of writing, with a unique catch: their guests were all fresh from the grave, called upon to speak and 'take up space.' The discussion ranged from the significance of language in each guest's epoch to how they effectively used language for civic involvement, concluding by highlighting the lasting impact of language on society.

In the ABELS 3C talk show, Ryle Nice Jimenez hosts as Muhammad Amir, offering a unique twist on today's social media influencers. The show features guests from different countries like China, Japan, and Thailand, each with distinct national, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.

Throughout the talk show, Muhammad's jokes about prescriptive grammar never fail to elicit laughter from the audience. For example, he proudly avoids using contractions like "you're," instead emphasizing "you are."

Ryle exclaimed, "Oh! Di ba wala nag mi nag-use ug contractions?! Palakpak!"

Overall, these talk shows are defined by immense joy, accompanied by sharp wit and skill.
