The VA’s Niche.

All Voice Actors has their own field or genre of expertise. Some can do a VO session super fast but struggle a little bit in Dubbing session or Vice Versa. It just proves that we all have our own Niches.

But that is not always the case, sometimes there are talents who can cater and deliver prestine output on both fields. We can achieve this by years of experience and daily practice of our craft.

Never get tired of learning and studying on how to get better. Discovering and rediscovering is the key factors of our growth as a VA. On your journey, surely you will find your own niche. It’s not how long or early you are in your career. It’s about your passion and dedication to this Art.

Just look on materials that makes you happy, fullfilled and satisfied when you are working on them. Usually it’s in your core as a person.

Keep it up! Sooner or later you will be at the spotlight.

Curing and Revision.

It’s inevitable sometimes, kahit anong focus mo there will be curings or revision. Meaning, you have overlooked certain lines sa dubbing or the client is demanding a different delivery or attack to a certain dialogue. Remember that it’s not always your fault.

It’s part of the production. Don’t take it personally and think that you are not good or fit for a certain project you got into.

Okay lang magkamali, that’s the beauty of pre-production. You can always revise and get the best output for your craft.

Don’t loose heart if marami kang curings. Just make a concious effort to be better next time and to make it a goal na no curing/revision at all.

Never think of yourself less or worthless.

Your are valuable to God, to your client and to your industry.

The HAT.

This technique reminds you that when you enter a recording booth/stage it’s time to create magic. It’s a cue that it’s time to perform.

Fast switch of emotions is a specialized skill that a voice actor should possess, from natural delivery to exaggerated, from heavy drama to super happy, from casual to rhetorical, first scene your are crying, next scene you are laughing, from voicing a Man 1 in the wet market to voicing a President in a podium. All of this can be achieved by loosing yourself to the character your are portraying.

VA’s don’t have the luxury of time to emote and internalize. It should be automatic.

You can be anyone.

Initiative and effort to study and analyze your role is a PLUS for Voice Actors. It will help atleast to shed light of what you and your director want to achieve in your acting perfomance for a certain project.

You may land a role because of the quality and texture of your voice, but building and sustaining your character for long hours of recording session is a huge challenge.

As Voice Actors, we need to develop and practice good listening skills, and quickly process the instruction very well so that when we perform, we will feel the authencity of what we are doing and have fun while recording.
