MIND THE GAP (in information) has always been the core of this page since it’s conceptualization. This page started when while still in college, Vernie Glojun Lasmarias saw an opportunity to bring information about in-school activities and alumni stories at the fingertips of the OCCean community (Opol Community College). It covered information ranging from originally written blog articles about th
e old OCC campus, to Intramural events, enrollment schedule, list of successful LET takers, etc. Over the years, we have also seen the growth of official OCC pages (CSG, SBO, Registrar’s, Admissions, etc.) so we shifted to connecting the community to the needs of the students. In 2020, this very page was the official page of OCC CONNECT - a donation drive campaign to support students gravely affected by the pandemic. We were able to provide 12,000 worth of load to select students from a long list of nominations, to support their mobile data needs. In 2021, we started the WHAT’s NEXT series, a career-guidance themed vlogs which featured OCC Alumni and their stories of realizing their dreams. In this project, we aimed that viewers gain insight on the personal hardships of our guests and also the technicalities of becoming a DepEd Teacher, a BFP fireman, ESL Teachers abroad, a private company auditor, an LGU Tourism Officer, and an SK Chairman. Finally, we decided to grow the page even more, while keeping ‘minding and connecting the information gap’ at our core. On February 21, 2022, the page was officially renamed to KANANG - a bisaya demonstrative pronoun, we often use as fillers in conversations, sometimes denoting uncertainty. We hope to look for these ‘kanangs’ and share them with you.
