There is actually a PHILIPPINE SPACE AGENCY!🚀👩‍🚀

PhilSA, the central government agency for space-related activities and technology applications, was recently established.

Today, over 100 Filipinos are involved in the development of small satellites, as well as space data processing and operations.

In the last five years, 10 young scientists and engineers have earned advanced degrees in fields relevant to space. They developed small satellites, including Diwata-1, Diwata-2, and Maya-1.

Our country has been an active user in the downstream of satellites and space. Specifically, the utilization of the images, geospatial information, communication and other services enabled by satellites.

When we talk about Southeast Asian startup ecosystem, Singapore and Indonesia steal the spotlight, while the Philippines lags behind.

But why is this the case? 🤔

🏝Is it because our country is an archipelago, composed of numerous islands, making it challenging for startups to bring their visions to life?

🗣 Or perhaps it's because we are incredibly diverse, with numerous dialects, necessitating a deep understanding of local preferences for startups to expand?

🧩 Or could it be that we're just a complex country where a one-size-fits-all approach rarely works?
On the flip side, we're a nation with a young, vibrant population, a rapidly growing middle class, and a tech-savvy community that's hungry for progress.

The nation has obviously fewer start-ups and limited funding compared to countries like Singapore and Indonesia.

As a matter of fact, we see $1M valuation a lot in start-ups abroad, a sight rarely seen in the Philippines.

This raises the question: Are we lacking funding because we lack capability or because we fail to address a broader market with our solutions?
