Do you understand the difference between the 6 months grace period and the 6 months rolling window for Pi Network community?
They are not the same. Learn the difference in the breakdown below. It also answers the question of what happens if you miss the 6 months deadline.
*6 MONTHS GRACE PERIOD:*
This period is broken into 2 deadlines - KYC deadline and Migration deadline.
1. KYC Deadline - The KYC deadline covers just the first 3 months of the grace period, which is July 1 - September 30. So all pioneers, who are not delayed by the system, have until September 30 to submit their KYC application.
2. Migration Deadline - This covers the whole 6 months. So the deadline is December 31 for all pioneers to complete mainnet checklist for migration.
6 MONTHS ROLLING WINDOW:
This window applies only to people who miss any of the Grace Period deadlines mentioned above. But what happens if you miss a deadline?
You will not lose your account. Instead, whenever you eventually migrate for the first time after missing a deadline, you will only get the Pi that was mined in the last 6 months before your migration.
This means that if you have been mining since 2021 for example, you will lose all the Pi you mined in these years, and only the Pi mined in the last 6 months before migration will be counted.
This is what the 6 months rolling window implies. It refers to the last 6 months before your first migration to mainnet, if you miss any of the Grace Period Deadlines.
I hope this post was able to help you understand the little nuances of the grace period and rolling window.
Do well to retweet and share for other pioneers to learn this and act accordingly.
