“PAENG” WEAKENS INTO A TROPICAL STORM AND IS ABOUT TO EXIT THE LANDMASS OF LUZON
Location of Center (1:00 AM):
The center of Tropical Storm “PAENG” was estimated based on all available data including those from Tagaytay and Subic Doppler Weather Radars in the vicinity of Candelaria, Zambales (15.7°N, 120.1°E)
Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 140 km/h, and central pressure of 990 hPa
Present Movement: Northwestward at 25 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 560 km from the center

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
Heavy Rainfall
• Through this morning: Heavy to intense rains possible over Zambales, Bataan, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan. Moderate to heavy rains possible over the rest of mainland Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Pangasinan, and the rest of Central Luzon. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains possible over Western Visayas, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon.
• Widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are still expected, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.
Severe Winds
• Winds reaching gale-force strength are possible within any of the areas where Wind Signal No. 2 is in effect. Areas under Wind Signal No.1 may experience strong winds (strong breeze to near gale strength) throughout the passage of the tropical cyclone.
• The outer circulation of PAENG and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon will also bring gusty condition reaching strong to gale-force strength over the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas. These conditions are especially likely in coastal and upland/mountainous areas.
Coastal Inundation
There is minimal risk of storm surge of up to 2.0 m in height which may cause inundation or flooding in the low-lying and exposed coastal areas of Zambales and the western portions of Bataan and Pangasinan For more information refer to Storm Surge Warning #8 issued at 2:00 AM today.
HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
Under the influence of the surge of the Northeast Monsoon and PAENG, a marine gale warning remains in effect over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao. For more information, refer to Gale Warning #13 issued at 5:00 PM yesterday,
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• Tropical Storm PAENG will exit the landmass of Luzon in the coming hour. It is then forecast to track generally westward or west northwestward today over the Philippine Sea before turning and moving north northwestward until Tuesday. On the track forecast, this tropical cyclone may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow morning or afternoon.
• PAENG is forecast to re-intensify into a severe tropical storm over the West Philippine Sea.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
