Nanay Party-list Champions Fixed Benefits for Barangay Health Workers in Congressional Bid
PAMPANGA- At 49 years old, Rizcel Mendoza has dedicated 15 years as a Barangay Health Worker (BHW) in Brgy. San Matias, Sto. Tomas. While she finds immense joy in helping others, she acknowledges the significant sacrifices of her role, particularly because she works without a salary.
Nanay Party-list has made it a core mission of its campaign to secure a seat in Congress to champion the welfare and benefits of BHWs. Its aim is to elevate them from underpaid volunteers to fully recognized government workers.
"Dapat naman masuklian ang kanilang sakripisyo ng mga kaukulang programa, if Nanay Party-list wins, we will prioritize institutionalizing programs that provide proper benefits—if not salaries—for barangay health workers. At the very least, these dedicated volunteers deserve support that acknowledges their tireless service," said Atty. Jun Canlas, 2nd nominee of Nanay Party-list.
BHWs are the backbone of the country's community health response, yet they remain undervalued. Many are regarded as mere volunteers, receiving honoraria far below the minimum wage despite their critical role as first responders in their communities.
Nanay Party-list is committed to changing this narrative by advocating for meaningful reforms in Congress. Central to its platform is the professionalization of BHWs ensuring they receive regular salaries, insurance, and benefits at par with other public sector workers.
In addition to salaries, Nanay Party-list advocates for additional allowances, such as hazard and transportation pay, and expanded access to training and career advancement programs through various government agencies.
These measures are seen as vital steps in addressing the inequities faced by BHWs and empowering them as indispensabl

"Welcome to a FRUITION of a Dream.
FRUITION
I have three words that would sum up this welcome remark. Fruition, Continuation and Succession. First, Fruition. Fruition is a result of a dream that is acted upon and producing concrete results. Many people have dreams but were not acted upon. My Grandfather Serafin Lazatin was one of those who dreamt of building a sugar central that would put Pampanga on the world agricultural map. He and others put into action a dream that built Pasudeco. Another fruit of that dream is the need to supply the electrical needs of a growing toen. The fruit of that dream is SFELAPCO. In 1964, two sisters, Anita, Carmen and my mother, Celia, dreamt of opening a store that would cater to the needs of the people. In September of 1965, the first supermarket in San Fernando was opened.
CONTINUATION
Pampanga may be known as the culinary capital of the Phils. But it is more than that. Pampanga once used to be rich in forests that were cut down to build and refurbish the Spanish Galleon ships. Unfortunate that may be, but it gifted Capampangans with the skills for carpentry, woodworking, blacksmithing. Knowing that we are blessed with so much skills, it is important that we do not forget what the capampangan is capable of. Past generations of Capmpangans have made Pampanga great. It is up to us, the present generation, to make sure our heritage is not forgotten, will be appreciated by the present generation, and passed on to the next. We make sure we do not lose our traditions, ours skills, our legacy, and most important, our identity of who the Capampangans are.
