Breaking News: The 19th Closing Ceremony of Asian Lexcon School

We are at the end of the calendar year; as we conclude this school’s academic year with perseverance and hard work, Asian Lexcon School organized the 19th Closing Ceremony with the theme, “K to 12 Graduates: Pursuing Dreams and Fostering Resilience in the face of Adversity”, via Facebook live on the 30th day of April 2022.

The program commenced with a doxology at nine o’clock in the morning. Then, it was continued by the singing of the national anthem. The opening remarks was delivered by Ms. Eliza M. Villamin, school principal. After Ms. Eliza M. Villamin had offered her opening remarks, Mrs. Co**halyn D.R. Sadio, the school vice president, delivered her message. Moreover, the introduction of the guest speaker, who is Ms. Charlene Elisse B. Cabullos, was said by Mr. Bryan May C. Dela Cruz, Grade-10 Con adviser. The presentation of the candidates for graduation, awarding of honors, and, special awardees which are the highlights of the ceremony subsequently followed. The graduation ceremony was held in the morning and was hosted by Mr. Daryl M. Mangino and Miss Jhuna Carla L. Gamboa. In the afternoon, the recognition, which was led by our masters of ceremony Mr. Bryan May C. Dela Cruz and Mr. John Kenneth O. LLITERARY: “Starry Sunrise Night”

In the darkest of night,
Hug me oh so tight,
For I can’t sleep tonight,
And I don’t see you, my light.

Love, for you I give you this,
May our worlds collide,
And our souls intertwine,
And find the light in our eyes.

On this Starry Sunrise Night,
As time goes by, day by day,
I’m here thinking of words worthwhile to say,
While I do the most patient thing and wait.

Remember this line,
For when we find the fire and light,
That is in our eyes,
It would be something ever so divine.

LITERARY: “My Personality”

My heart is as soft as bread
Because I am a lovely person
I am as brave as a lion
Because no one can replace my personality

I am a beautiful than rainbow colors
Coz God created me as unique one
And my skin is softer than sink
Just like my heart that lovable and open to every day.

As a student, I am as busy as bee
Lots of paper works and tasks to be done,
But even if a lot of works,
I am strong as an ox.

My love for my family is as deep as the ocean
I always give everything for them
I will make sure that they are comfortable
And safe every day.

LITERARY: “Love of My Life”

When we first met It was hard to believe
that you like me too. I begun to thank my God above
Just to say I love you seems enough. I've said it so many times
I am afraid you won’t understand what I really mean when I say it.

I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you, but i will not stop
From waiting to not waiting for you, but i’m patient
My heart moves from cold to fire.

Being with you for just Awhile, Shadows vanish with your
Smile Feeling the warmth of your touch Has come
to mean so very much Like the calming of the sea
Being with you means much to me.

I miss you so much and i love you so much you
Don’t understand what you really mean to me.
You lighten the dark road I was walking you really mean
The world to me you are my life.

LITERARY: “Fondness Blaze

I watched a lyrid meteorite all night
Wishing that a better thing come across with might
To elevate all doubt and fears and pass through that
But i can’t hide the fear i experience a lot.

In the glorious clear morning of Monday
Expecting gradually gain the wish I say
There’s nothing i pass through in this wretch day
Except mystery, sadness, and shame in my way.

You are the main reason why i needed to pass this
I can’t explain why i needed to say “please”
and you having to say “we’re just friends”
Words you say staple my soul, make it unreleased.

Fainting like in holocaust

Hanging in beyond a cross

It is what every hearts feel

When one dies or disappears

It causes major heartbreaks, cover souls like failure blankets.

Now that i’ve had enough of it
I’m tired of burning myself just to warm him

A great lesson for me to learn, as i watch my heart burn.

LITERARY: LOVE

Love is a four letter word
Yet it is so powerful like a sword
It is simple and easy to say
But it makes our heart happy and gay.

Love gives sunshine after the rain
It is so precious and eases all the pain
The simplest word it can be
But is like a raging sea.

Love is a million stars in the sky
That shines brighter, we can’t deny
Love is like a beautiful sight to be hold
There is no word left untold.

Love is the most important gift from God
Don’t waste it and always be glad
No matter how we say it to someone
if that someone is our beloved one.

FEATURE: Asian Lexcon School: It’s Legacy and Beyond
The school plays a vital role in our lives as it serves as our second home. Students are taught the fundamentals of life as well as the platform to build their personality to be a person and emphasizing the over-all development of every student.

Antoine Griezmann once said, "With hard work and effort, you can achieve anything." This adage simply shows that we can attain anything if we have perseverance. But what is Asian Lexcon School? The Asian Lexcon School was basically created to help young learners to be responsible citizens in the future. It wants youth to develop and to grow as leaders of our society by means of being determined. Aiming to create and to mold young learners to adhere good values and principles to become effective leaders and champions in the near future.

It was 1997, when Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Del Rosario came up with this idea. Building a school to help the community was the idea proposed by a family friend and consultant, Mr. Camilo A. Castañeda, to Mr. and Mrs. Del Rosario. Before the said school got its name, Mr. and Mrs. Del Rosario first thought of naming it as St. Michael Catholic School but ended up naming it after their children, Mr. Felix Val and Ms. Co**ha Lyn.

The Asian Lexcon School officially started in 2002. In the beginning, the school only offered Pre-elementary to Grade 1 as their foundation. Ms. Remy Bautista who was the first school principal proposed the idea of making the institution as an English speaking school. After 4 years, Ms. Francisca A. Olegario became the principal of the Elementary Department along with the former high school principal, Dr. Maximiano Dela Cruz, who then became the second principal. But they both left their positions after a year. With the position vacant, Mrs. Filomena Del Rosario, who was the late owner of the school, considered the suggestion of the DepEd Regional Director Madam Dinah F. Mindo to appoint herself to be the new school principal of the institution. She facilitated the school from 2007 until 2018. At present, Ms. Eliza M. Villamin is the school principal for both Elementary and High School Department.

Thus far, the Asian Lexcon School is continuously operating because of the dedication that bloomed. There were some struggles along the way sometimes and it was challenging. However with faith, we can be stronger just as the faith of Mrs. Filomena Del Rosario. The Asian Lexcon School attained achievements that were not only represented by means of certificates but also through witnessing their former students accomplish their dreams today.

All throughout the years, this school produced professionals who are now successful in their chosen fields. Inspiring alumni shared their experiences that continuously motivate the students. We would love to pursue “HER” legacy to empower all the students to do greater things. Furthermore, PASSION from your heart towards your goal and COMPASSION towards other’s everything is accomplishable. Saying all these, I feel blessed and honoured to be part of my school’s legacy.

LITERARY: FAMILIES

Families are people
Who care about you.
My family is special
Your family is too.

Mothers and Fathers
and Sisters and Brothers,
Grandmas and Grandpas
and so many others.

My family is big
While another is small.
Some families have children,
and some, none at all.

When we're together
or far, far apart.
The people I love
Fill the map of my heart.

FEATURES: Mr. and Ms. Lexcon Next Top Model 2022

Among the 14 candidates who joined the competition last February 16, 2022, Mr. Earlson John G. Bueno, grade 10-Lex and Michaella D. Basilio, grade 7-Integrity, won the Mr. and Ms. Lexcon Next Top Model 2022 title.
Elegance, poise, and grace are some of the natural qualities that made the newly-crowned stand out during the competition.
Mr. Earlson John G. Bueno, a 16-year old student, showed his intelligence and charisma through recycling his costume. This was not his first-time joining this kind of contest. In year 2018, he won the title of Mr. United Nations and received a certificate and sash from this said event.
According to Mr. Bueno, his costume was made of crown cork, plastic bottles, sando bags, and boxes. And this superb costume was made possible because of his supportive friends. His friends never failed him to give their hands in the entire competition.
Mr. Bueno’s goal is to help the environment to avoid pollutions. He showed beyond doubt, with creativity the things which we know that are no longer usable could still have the chance to turn it into useful ones. Right now, Mr. Bueno’s priority is his studies and he said that if he gets time, he will surely join again.
Ms. Michaella D. Basilio, first-timer candidate, was shocked to be called on as the grand winner for the said event. She was, however, already hoping to bring home the bacon at the height of the competition’s occurrence but never did she expect that her wishes would be granted.
She joined Lexcon Next Top Model by the influence of her family and for the reason that they both see it as an opportunity to boost her confidence and gain experience. Michaella Basilio considers herself as a fun and reliable person, her hobbies and interests include practicing calligraphy, watching movies, going out and organizing things.
During the preparation, she was assisted by her aunt and her mother, much to their joy to guide her in every step of the way. They gave pieces of advice that helped her a lot and they also put her on some “rigorous practice” as per Michaella Basilio statement and of course, they eagerly watched her as she joined the said event.
She surely felt the bliss of winning in such competition and she aspires to use it in good will. She assures that she will use this accomplishment to improve herself as well as to help others explore and discover their own winning path.
Michaella D. Basilio wants to use this accomplishment to spread awareness that “every little gain is still a gain so everyone should grab every opportunity that they think will help them to pursue their dreams” and to “keep an eye on their goals” just like what she did.
According to her, these kind of encouragements have helped her gain confidence that she knows will be also useful in the future. She has only one lesson to teach her junior peers and that is to grab every chance that comes their way to gain knowledge and experience, prepare thoroughly to do well and get as much fun while in it.
In her own words, she promotes this kind of event as it helps to spread information that Asian Lexcon School gives so much chances and opportunities to their students to gain different experiences that they might use in the future aside from giving quality education and pleasing environment. It was surely a fun experience for Ms. Michaella Basilio.
Having confidence for yourself is the best thing that you have, never lose it and be who you are. Be a good model, save planet, save our environment.

OPINION: Election of 2022, Is there still hope?

The president must be capable of adapting to the current and future situation of the Philippines. Especially with the global pandemic on which is in no way an easy task. That being said, is there really anyone suitable for presidency?
The candidates for presidency are problematic, no matter whose side you are in, they have some sort of problem or issue, which makes it harder to vote. People are stirring up arguments and trying to convert people who have not chosen a side to vote for their choice. If we vote for the wrong person, our future would be doomed.
The public is desperate for a leader, someone who will guide them on what is currently happening; but as of now, with Duterte planning to resign, it does not look like there is much hope. Of course, many people would disagree with this statement, and will try to defend their candidate.
Just to have a grasp on who is running for president, here is a list: Former Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Chairman of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino Leody de Guzman, Former secretary of National Defense Norberto Gonzales, Senator Panfelo “Ping” Lacson, Former senator Bongbong Marcos, Mayor of Manila Isko Moreno, Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Vice President Leni Robredo.

But not my story,

You know what I've done
But not my sacrifices,
You saw my achievement
But not my what I've been through,

You saw my smile
But not my pain,
You know what
That my prettiest eyes

Cried the most tears,
My cold personality
Hide the deepest pain,
And the way I pretend

That I don't care at all
Fooled a lot of people,
Everyone think that I'm numb
Without knowing that deep inside

I am broken into pieces,
But it’s fine, it’s alright,
It's okay, it doesn't matter
What will people think about me,

I'm the girl you hated the most
That's why I became

OPINION: SAVE OUR YOUTH, SAVE OUR FUTURE

Have you heard about “Military Service”? An implementation for Filipino youth at the age of 18. A mandatory military service to create a strong manpower base that will strengthen the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and our nation. And this will be supported by the Department of National Defense (DND). It is planned to be implemented in the State Universities and Colleges.

“There are several advantages: First, the military will have a ready and steady trained pool of reservists to defend the country and do HADR (humanitarian assistance and disaster relief) work; second, the training and discipline that they will acquire will make them better citizens; third, service to the country will be inculcated in them," Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in a statement.

However the question is, if education includes the military service program, will this become beneficial to all students?

Being helpful to others and being patriotic is not measured by one’s status. Not in military service, politics, rich and poor. Everyone can serve the country as long as they have a patriotic heart. Not in Military service is the solution for the government.

Young people do not need to march and hold guns just to protect their families and themselves. The government cannot force youth to become soldiers. Being a youth soldier is not the answer to our government needs. What is needed is a sober, principled dignity and disciplined leader in our country.

Youth is not the bullet for the opponent, because they are the hope of the people. Do not use the weakness of youth. Do not hinder the freedom of the youth to choose their own future.

LITERARY: “HOPEFUL HEART”

I know someone else loves you.
And I was hurting all the time
Whenever I see you with her,
What pain I feel.

My heart is crying, because I'm hoping.
Every time we are together, what a joy.
You hold my hand, you make me feel precious in your heart, my love.
Sometimes of your smile, we can be together,
And will not look for another.

There's a smile on my face, my tears are dripping.
My heart asks, 'where are you?'.
Why are you in the company of others and leave me alone?
Sad heart, you hurt.
Why did you make me hope that you will love me?
Why did you gave your heart to others?
Don't you feel that my love for you is real?
And destroyed my love.

Regretful moments of our past.
Memories of the past, seem to have disappeared.
Sorrowful heart in tribulation, by the pain you caused.
My heart is closed, I don't want to fall in love again.
Because I love you, 'til the end.

OPINION: Face to Face Classes 2022: Is it Possible or still Impossible?

Life is unpredictable. The whole of our life is a series of beginnings and endings. It has been two years since Covid-19 devastated not only our country, the Philippines, but also the entire world.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presented an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the workforce. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating.

One of the most tremendous effects of this catastrophe is emerging many schools all across the world to close. And as the cases continued to rise, schools shifted from traditional learning to online learning to keep students safe and minimize the virus’s spread. The abrupt switch to fully online learning has been particularly stressful. Many students participating in the online class got a larger workload than that of regular classes. Quite a number of students have been calling for an academic freeze. This is detrimental to the education process.

Is face to face classes possible in 2022? It is possible if we, Filipinos, strictly follow the set of rules in preventing the spread of the virus. However, as we can see here in the Philippines right now, we are still struggling with this pandemic and it is not safe yet to implement it completely. Though face-to-face learning is an effective way to learn because we have a greater chance of completing our courses successfully in school. We even have the opportunity to connect with, problem-solve, and network with other students. But the presence of Covid-19 will directly and permanently change education in the future, seeing that we must be able to adapt to working and studying online for any kind of reasons and situations.

Only time will tell whether online classes will be a good substitute for normal classes, and if they are, there will be a rise in online educational programs.

LITERARY: “Absence of Love”

You will play the role of the sun, and I will play the role of the moon
Simply let your brightness to shine through
When the night descends, just like the moon,
I will return the favor by shining a light on you.

I have seen it before, and I will see it again:
The charm within you And despite how many poems I compose, it will never be enough
There are no words to convey how much I admire you
I am drawn to you for reasons such as love.

How many times must I cry because of you?
Before I realized you did not give a damn,
I am going to quit wondering if you're concerned about me.
And if you ever have an issue, the response is still no.

When you realize I am no longer here
Perhaps we will be able to catch up again in the future.
I will be exactly what you require and desire.
Then I will be someone you do not want to lose.

EDITORIAL: Education: From Traditional to Virtual Classroom

“We declare our victory over COVID-19, the destroyer of our lives, the destroyer of our economy and of our way of life and society. But we will not allow COVID-19 to destroy our children’s education and their future.” Education Secretary Leonor Briones

The Covid19 virus has spread throughout the world, affecting not only human life but also the health, economic, and educational systems. In the Philippines, the Department of Education insisted on the implementation of distance learning for the adoptive yet alternative normal approach of education in the country.

Online learning has proven to be a viable option because both the teachers and the students set their own learning pace, as well as the added flexibility of creating a schedule that fits everyone's schedule. As a result, using online learning allows for a better balance of work and studies, so there's no need to sacrifice anything.
Students who study online have more flexibility in their schedules and spend less money on their education. They can learn their desired courses and subjects at their own pace. This provides a fantastic opportunity for learners to learn new skills and expands their knowledge while remaining in the comfort of their own homes. Thus, online learning is both cost-effective and time-efficient. Students benefit from online learning since they can complete their schoolwork fast, leaving more time for hobbies or job hunting and online learning is that it allows us to avoid social interaction, which is especially important at this time of the pandemic.
One of the most difficult aspects of online learning is the inability to focus on a screen for long periods, as well as the loss of internet connection. While learning online, students are more likely to be distracted by social media or other websites. To assist students to stay focused on the material, teachers must make their online classrooms intriguing and interactive.

SPORTS: APSTAP MEET 2021

Jhervin Quilala and A***n Castranuevo who are both first-timer pool players joined billiard’s competition last November 19, 2021 via online.
Jhervin Quilla admitted that he felt anxious before the game started since it was virtual. However, as the game continued, he said that he gradually enjoyed it.
His game was challenging as he lost in the first round and in the second round, the luck was on his hands. He made the last shot which was his opponent missed. Their host asked if he had any parting words for his opponent, to which Jhervin answered, "Good luck Tol Labyu!" then, everyone laughed. Jhervin was defeated in the last round.
A***n Castranuevo, another first-time pool player, was disqualified as she could not have the opportunity to play because she lost track of her time and did not have available phone to use on that day.
Even if they both lost the game still these two players are capable of accepting defeat. And this is what you referred to as "sportsmanship".

SPORTS: A WAR OVER THE BOARDS

On November 19, 2021 via online, Rianne Lurkin Andres and Gian Lourence Embellado who are both first-time chess players finally faced their rivals after an intense three-day preparation for the APSTAP Chess competition.
The first one to compete was Rianne who was in game 7 and Gian was in game 8. Rianne Andres played with the BSC’s chess player Jhonalyn T. Generalao. He lost the game after being pinned in a spot, leading him into a dead end. On the other hand, Gian Embellado also get defeated by his opponent, Marc Janrei E. Farnacio of MRS’s. Marc got him by the last 16 moves that led him to his victory.
Rianne prepared himself before his game, while Gian made sure that there was no fear inside him. And he stated, “Kaylangan po ng tatag ng loob pag nag lalaro. Kaya, before mag start ‘yong game walang takot na nararamdaman.”
During the game, Rianne felt nervous and get pressured because the BSC chess player’s skill and ability in predicting his next moves were out of sight which made it difficult for him to change mid-game strategy. However, Gian remained calm and had have a usual game with MRS’s chess player.
Despite of their defeat, they still accepted it with open-arms. And they said that they were both glad to have a chance to participate in playing for the APSTAP. It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed, according to Theodore Roosevelt. That was what these two chess players did, they tried, instead off backing out. An interesting fact about these two chess players of Lexcon is that they are both interested in playing chess as it also helps to improve the brain.

So I can see the world.
But now I can see mine just by looking at you.

But all I can see now, is the sparkle in your eyes.

LITERARY: Love’s Drug

Growing up with the influence of movies about love has made me wonder what true love is.

They say that, love will eventually come to you in a manner of time.

Love is overwhelming, I assume. I would love to feel what true love is all about, I may feel it from my family and friends, but I want to know the feeling of love from my soul mate.

I want to feel the love from the bottom of my brain, as the heart only pumps my blood through my veins.

We are the embodiment of love itself, we cannot give or seek for love if we cannot love ourselves. With love, your life will shine to its full brightness as it colonizes the darkness.

With love, your guts are stronger than ever as it breaks the barrier of your fears.

With love, you can change the meaning of life. With all these claims, I may as well agree what Mr. Gandhi said.
