As the clock struck 7, the sun emerged brightly from its slumber, and the sounds of drums and lyres filled the streets of Calbayog. The rhythmic stomping of feet and exuberant cheers of the crowd accompanied the music🎶🥁. Today, September 7, 2024, the Civic Parade in Calbayog City had everyone on their toes, eager to witness the burst of vibrant musicality—from twirlers to drummers. Each person was enthralled by the unique concepts and dazzling costumes of the schools as they paraded through the streets with spirited choreography and lively beats.

The public’s expectations were high after the consecutive victories of San Policarpo National High School, and the school rose to the occasion. They mesmerized the crowd with their majestic blue, wave-like costumes, flowing ocean-inspired choreography, and cheerful summer rhythms. Cheers and applause echoed through the streets, leaving spectators eagerly awaiting their next performance. The band’s melodies flawlessly complemented the smooth choreography, creating a refreshing atmosphere that highlighted the elegance and grace of each dancer.

San Policarpo National High School showcased a night full of cultural wonders at this year’s Hadang Ritual Festival Dance, embodying the true spirit of Panaad Festival, held at the Calbayog City Sports Center on September 6.

Taking the stage with passion and energy, the SPNHS Dance Troupe captivated the audience with their vibrant performance, highlighting Brgy. San Policarpo's heritage, and most importantly, the barangay's Patron Saint—Senior San Jose.

Their performance not only earned them the prestigious 1st Runner-Up title in the competition—they reminded our people the beauty of our origins, our cultural identity, preserving San Policarpo's rich history.

Stage lights flickered around the spotlight, and there beheld a silhouette radiating fierce glam, accentuating her perfect curves, alluring applause and eliciting reverberating cheers. By plain sight, all that is to our eyes is a jewel who's poise and composed. However, we are oblivious of what is concealed behind the fabrics of her facade. Perhaps the novel she marked overflows backstage wherein the rivulets she pours stay clandestine.

As a daughter of a fisherman, the waves never flowed with grandiosity, but its ripples were never too hostile—it was calm, gentle, and serene. The narrative continued with fresh pages, until it reached the predestined chapter. Her older sister, Ms. Rose Mae M. Merencillo, claimed her gleaming glory, being crowned as Ms. Hadang Festival Queen 2019—the moment where a goddess weaved history on the city's tapestry.

And unbeknownst to her, she was meant to follow her footsteps.

Came the brightest daylight, it was her first step in the realm she's meant to reign—not that it was a choice of heart, but a push from her advisers. There on the center stage, despite inadequate preparations, her statuesque embodied glamour and ethereality. During the coronation, it was a sense of calling—she was acclaimed as Ms. Siglakas 2023 1st Runner-up.

She kept an oath to herself to not compete again, but like a moonlight's prophecy, in the dimmest illuminated her innate charisma.

Without a doubt, her potential wasn't unforeseen—she was bound to streak across stages of pageantry. She once again competed, determined to seal the crown—the stage was a mesmerizing display of celestial beauty, talent, and passion. As the glorious night concluded, she owned the title of Miss SPNHS Tourism 2024.

It was the beginning of her reign, but every backstage witnessed mascara dripping and the creeping burden of an aspiring queen.

As she shone at the Miss Hadang Festival Queen 2024, every demure walk, charming smile, and articulate answer carried the pressure. She was not just carrying the school's name—she was carrying her own, the pride of being the sister of a beauty queen.

"I feared the judgement of many as it was a local pageant and mostly, Ms. Chelsea Manalo was the judge. I felt weak, hopeless, and embarrassed as disappointment took over me," she admitted.

The pathological pressure weighed on her almost crumbled her empire. It was like walking on a thin line wherein each heartbeat becomes too loud, silencing the murmurs of the crowd, and spinning the thoughts round.

But she isn't just upholding the delicate pride of being a beauty queen's sister—she has her own name to forge, and she will reign as a queen.

"Despite all the pressure and nervousness, I remained positive and composed. I believe that I have my own journey, my own path, and my own name waiting to become renowned," she expressed.

Venice Claire Matuday Merencillo, from The Home of the Humble Winners, indeed proved that her dedication transcends the titles in pageantry. She is the reigning winner in our hearts as she holds the title of Miss Hadang 1st Runner-up. Her journey in this kaleidoscopic domain is bound to traverse countless limelights—she is set to claim her golden diadem and leave an everlasting legacy.

"I won't stop until I crown my name, I'll keep on persevering, and maybe someday, I'll have it placed on my head and I'll finally be a queen."

Calbayog City - The SPNHS Marching Band was recently honored with a commendation resolution by the Sanggunian Panlungsod of Calbayog City. The resolution, 2024-28-376, was presented during the 1st Monday of the Month Flag Raising Ceremony held at Calbayog City Hall.

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING COMMENDATION AND WARM CONGRATULATIONS TO SAN POLICARPO (SPNHS) MARCHING BAND, REPRESENTING THE CALBAYOG CITY DELEGATION, FOR BEING AWARDED CHAMPION DURING THE TANDAYA FESTIVAL 2024 DRUM AND LYRE COMPETITION HELD AT THE SAMAR PROVINCIAL CAPITAL GROUNDS ON AUGUST 2, 2024.

The resolution was given to the band's director, John Jason S. Chan, who said, "Thank you, Calbayog!" as it recognized the band's accomplishments and contributions to the community.

The resolution was resolved and approved by City Mayor Raymund C. Uy.

The SPNHS Marching Band expressed their gratitude to the Sanggunian Panlungsod of Calbayog City for this commendation. They are thankful for the continuous support and encouragement provided by the local government and community.

Pormal na tinapos ng Mataas na Paaralan ng San Policarpo ang pagdiriwang sa Buwan ng Wika, ngayong araw, ika-30 ng Agosto, taong kasalukuyan sa pamamahala ni Gng. Mary Jane Pedrosa-Del Mundo.

Ang mga napiling mag-aaral sa bawat seksyon at baitang ay rumampa at nagsuot ng Barong Tagalog at Baro't Saya upang ipamalas ang tunay na ganda ng kasuotan ng katutubong Pilipino. Binigyan din ng karangalan ang mga estudyanteng nanalo sa mga aktibidad na isinagawa para sa pagdiriwang ng buwan ng wika, sa pamamahala ni Gng. Mary Cris S. Pueblos

Ang mga aktibidad na isinagawa ay isa sa mga paraan para magkaroon tayo ng malawak na kaalaman at maisabuhay ang ating kinagisnang wika at kultura. Muling naisasabuhay ang wikang minsang kinalimutan at sa unti-unting pagyakap nito, naipapakita natin ang lubos na pagmamahal at pagrespeto sa wikang Filipino.

Bilang pagdiriwang sa huling linggo ng Buwan ng Wika sa Mataas na Paaralan ng San Policarpo, nagsagawa ng indibidwal na kompetisyon ang Departamento ng JHS sa kategoryang deklamasyon at talumpati ngayong ika-27 ng Agosto taong kasalukuyan.

Ang patimpalak ay binuo ng mga mag-aaral mula sa ika-9 at ika-10 baitang. Pinangunahan at pinangasiwaan ito ng mga bihasang g**o sa larangan ng Filipino na sina Gng. Mary Cris S. Pueblos, Gng. Ma. Salvacion Bacolod, at Gng. Prisilina Manota. Na siyang dinaluhan ng 10 mag-aaral para sa kompetisyong deklamasyon at 6 na mag-aaral para sa kompetisyong talumpati.

Isa itong pagsubok at pagsukat sa angking galing at kahusayan ng mga mag-aaral at nagsisilbing katunayan na ang kabataang Pilipino ay hindi nakakalimot sa kanilang wikang kinagisnan — ang Wikang Filipino.

Ngayong Araw ng mga Bayani, pagkakataon natin na pasalamatan ang mga Pilipinong nagsakripisyo, at lumaban ng buong tapang para sa katarungan at kalayaan ng ating bayan. Sa bawat huling lunes ng Agosto, hindi lang natin inaalala ang mga kilalang bayani tulad nina Dr. Jose Rizal at Andres Bonifacio. Naalala rin natin ang mga ordinaryong tao na nagpakita ng tapang para sa ikabubuti ng bansa.

Sa paggunita sa Araw ng mga Bayani, sana’y alalahanin natin ang mga nauna sa atin at ipagpatuloy ang kanilang mga prinsipyo. Sa bawat pagtulong sa kapwa, pagsisikap sa paaralan o trabaho, o sa pagiging mabuting mamamayan—lahat tayo ay may pagkakataong maging bayani sa ating sariling paraan. Ang diwa ng kabayanihan ay buhay sa bawat Pilipino, at ito’y dapat nating ipagpatuloy para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.

𝗖𝗗𝗥𝗥𝗠𝗢, 𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗽-𝗯𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝘀𝗮 𝗦𝗣𝗡𝗛𝗦

Pinalawig ng mga kinatawan ng Calbayog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office ang kaalaman ng mga mag-aaral ng San Policarpo matapos ang CPR, FBAO, at Psychological First Aid Mass Demonstration na ginanap sa Brgy. San Policarpo Covered Court nitong Agosto 22, 2024.

Binubuo ito ng malawakang pagsasanay sa chest compression at first aid na dinaluhan ng mga mag-aaral mula sa Ikalabindalawang Baitang, Student Rescuers, at miyembro ng Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Sa paunang mensahe, binigyang-diin ni G. Cerilo Irinco, “Kun sino nag-aaro support, sino nag aaro bulig, and if you are there—you have to help. Because it is our responsibility to help others, kase siring ngani sira 'hindi tayo nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang'.”

Upang maipaabot ang kanilang suporta, dumalo rin ang ating punong-barangay, Hon. Lydia Naparan, at ang ating alkalde, Hon. Raymund "Monmon" Uy upang magbigay ng karagdagang mensahe.

"𝑰𝒌𝒂𝒘 𝒏𝒂 𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒏?"

Sambit ko ng makita ulit ang pigyura ng isang lalaki habang nakaupo ito sa dalampasigan.

Sa tabi ng dagat, pinong buhangin ang aking tinatapakan, malamyos na simoy ng hangin, ang paghampas ng alon sa dalampasigan, at ang melodiyang tinutugtog ng lalaki.

Habang ako'y nakatingin sa nakatalikod na lalaki, isang 'di pamilyar na damdamin ang rumaragasa sa aking dibdib kasabay ng pagragasa ng alon sa islang bato sa 'di kalaliman ng dagat.

"Sino ka ba talaga?"

Hindi ito umimik sa aking tanong, at patuloy na nagtitipa sa kaniyang gitara. Tila ba hindi niya ako naririnig. Gusto kong malaman kung sino siya, kung bakit siya laging nagpapakita sa aking pagtulog, at kung siya nga ba ang taong inaakala ko.

Ngunit sa tuwing ako'y lalapit ay bigla siyang maglalaho kasabay ng pagbalik ko sa reyalidad.

At sa paggising ko'y muli ko siyang iguguhit. Muli kong tatandaan ang kanyang pustura. Sa pag-asang balang araw ay makikilala ko ang mukhang 'di ko pa nakikita. At mapunan ang di ko malamang puwang sa aking katauhan.

Halos isang buwan na mula ng mapaginipan ko ang lalaki. At sa mga panahong abot kamay ko na siya ay laging napuputol ang aking paghimbing. Tila ba pinapanatili ng daigdig na ako'y litohin.

Sino nga ba talaga ang lalaki sa aking panaginip? Gusto ko na ng sagot, gusto ko ng malaman kung bakit lagi kong napapanaginipan ang lalaki.

At hanggat nagpapakita siya sa aking pagtulog, at magigising na siya lang ang naalala, patuloy kong iguguhit ang kaniyang pigyura...

At dumating na nga ang takdang araw. Ang pagkakataon na masilayan ang iyong mukha. Ang makaharap ka ng tuluyan at malaman kung sino ka.

Kulay tsokolateng pares ng mata na tumititig sa akin. Labing kay nipis at kasing p**a ng makupa. Kilay na kay kapal at halos magkasalubong na. Ilong mong matangos na bagay sayong mukha. At higit sa lahat, ang ngiting 'di ko na makakalimutan pa.

Hindi kita kilala. Ngunit bakit pamilyar ka?

Sino ka nga ba talaga? Bakit tila'y lubos kitang kilala?

"Ang engkwentrong ito ay 'di ang huli." Sambit mo habang ika'y naglalahong unti-unti.

Sa aking pagmulat ay may luha sa mata, pagtibok ng aking puso'y mabilis at parang nasa karera, aking mga kamay na 'di mapakali habang hinahagilap ang kwadernong ginagamit para gumuhit.

Sa unang pagkakataon, maiguguhit ko na ng buo ang iyong larawan. Ang lalaking bumubulabog sa aking isipan, sa pagtulog at paggising.

Ngunit 'di pa rin nasasagot ang aking mga katanungan. 'Di ko rin naitanong ang iyong pangalan. At mas lalong hindi ko maintindihan ang aking nararamdaman. Bakit parang mas lumaki ang puwang? Mas lumala ang sakit, at parang may kulang.

Sino ka nga ba talaga?

Iyan pa rin ang tanong na 'di ko masagot, dahil ikaw lamang ay may alam. Pero kailan ulit tayo magkikita? Kailan ulit masisilayan ang iyong mukha?

Sa paglipas ng mga araw ay hindi ka na nagpakita sa aking panaginip. Kaya 'di ko pa rin magawang masagot ang tanong sa'king isip. May kaunting sayang nadarama, dahil kahit papaano'y nakita kita.

Hindi ko itatanggi na gusto ulit kitang makita, kahit masilayan man lang ang iyong pigyura. Kahit sa malayo makikilala kita, 'yan ay pangako...

"Ms. sayo ba ito?" Tinig na nagmumula sa aking likuran, at sa aking paglingon ikaw na nga iyan.

Natulala nalang ako sa aking nakita. Ikaw na nga, walang duda. Isang ngiti ang umalpas sa aking mga labi, isang luha ang gumapang sa aking pisngi.

"Ikaw na nga." Mga salitang nakatakas sa aking labi. Lubos na kasiyahan ang aking nadarama sa oras na ito, parang ako'y muling nabuo. At hiling ko'y sana hindi panaginip ito.

"Ah Ms.? Sayo ba itong kwaderno?" Iniabot mo sa akin ang iyong hawak, ngunit ang tingin ko'y nasa mukha mo pa rin. Nalilito, yan ang nararamdaman mo kitang kita ko sa iyong kulay tsokolateng mga mata habang nakatingin ka sa akin.

"A-ah oo. Salamat." Gusto pa sana kitang makausap pero bago pa ako makapagsalita, isang magandang babae ang lumapit sayo at lumingkis sa iyong braso.

Ang sakit. Hindi ko siya kilala, pero ba't parang nabiyak nang tuluyan ang aking puso?

"Ah sige Ms. Mauna na kami." Ang iyong paalam habang lumalakad ka papalayo kasama siya, halata naman kung sino ang binibini sa iyong buhay.

Sino ka ba talaga. 'Di ko pa rin masagot ang tanong.

Sapagkat bago pa tayo magkakilala naglalaho na papalayo ang iyong pigyura.

𝑷𝒂? 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖?

These words have echoed in my mind for as long as I can remember. I had been searching for you in every corner of my life, from the playgrounds of my childhood to the classrooms of my high school years. With each passing day, I wondered about you—what you looked like now, how you had been, and whether you ever planned to visit us again.

The last time you were with us, I was in elementary school. Now, as I approach my final year of high school, those memories feel like distant echoes of fleeting happiness and bitter moments. I remember the promises you made, but the ones you broke are etched in my memory.

You promised to visit every Sunday after church so that we could spend time together, bonding over the only times I got to see you. I was young and clung to that promise with a hopeful heart, believing that even a few hours each week with you would be enough. But it was only one Sunday before you disappeared from our lives. You left, taking your presence with you, and with it, the bond we might have shared.

I often spent my days staring out of the windowsill, waiting for you to appear. Mama would ask why I was always gazing out the window, and I would simply answer, “Papa.” She described me as someone lost in thought, with an empty soul. It was her way of understanding my silent longing. She understood how I felt—this strong hope of seeing you again, even for just for a second.

Years passed, and my hope began to wane. It became a tradition to look out the windowsill, longing to see you. Each day, I waited for a sign—whether a letter, a phone call, anything. But time, with its relentless march, wore away my hope until it was a tiny glint, struggling to ignite and ultimately, washed away by waves of doubt. I kept fighting back the thought of you never coming back, but even I knew I was deceiving myself.

Sometimes, I wondered if I was the reason you left. When Ate was born, you were happy. When Kuya was conceived, you were excited. But when I arrived, something changed. You left Mama, Ate, and Kuya. It felt as though you sacrificed them just to avoid me.

The emptiness of those moments was a heavy weight. It was as if I was missing a part of myself—a part you were supposed to fill. You left a void in my heart that grew larger as I grew older. I questioned whether my very existence had driven you away and if I was the cause of your absence. Was I the reason Kuya and Ate don’t have a father figure as well?

I know that your presence in my life seems impossible, but I keep clinging to these thoughts by the windowsill, hoping you'll come back to try to fill the unhealable gaps in my soul and heart.

𝑰 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒖𝒔, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔.

I see that another month has passed. Is it one to mend my soul and wounds? Probably not. The clock strikes twelve, but I'm still here in the corner of my room staring at these portraits that scream your name...

and my heart still does, too.

I see that the sun always shined brightly on your side, and so did the moon. But why did mine only create a dark void? It seems paradoxical that I am living in memories of you, while we're still oceans apart, dwelling in different worlds.

I see that you still wear that warm smile of yours. I wonder how it would feel to see that again, close to mine? I guess the answer will remain unknown for a lifetime. I can now only long for your solemn stares as I try to rekindle our extinguished flames.

I see everything clearly, even though I seem to be shrouded in misery. But I still can't grasp one thing. I have been constantly wanting to be on my knees, asking you, "please?"

How did we go from promising forever to whispering farewell? I used to feel you breathe under my skin, but now, what used to be familiar became peculiar.

How did those cuddly nights turn to sleeping under different galaxies? How did mornings beside you become days of trying to get by?

It's a shame that under lampshades I thought everything was for all time, but it turned out that loving you is not for this lifetime. And in the next one, it's a bitter verdict: you're still never mine.

Yet I'll confess, I'm still waiting, thinking of our past lives that passed by. I never really was ready for you to be the loss of my life...

and so, even if the shelf life of our fantasies has expired, I still watch us, but only in picture frames.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 | All of us have that feeling of emptiness, like a void calling to be filled, with some too big, and some barely noticeable. But as we go on, the vacant spaces inside us inevitably consume more of us, and subconsciously, we search for the missing part that will make us feel whole.

𝐺𝑎𝑝𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑢𝑧𝑧𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑏𝑒 𝑜𝑐𝑐𝑢𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑎 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑐𝑒, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛 𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑡𝑦 𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑒.

As we seek to find the perfect fit for the hole, undeniably, it gapes wider and wider. And probably, at some point when we're on the verge of breaking down, we'll suddenly question what will truly complete us. Is it love? a friend? a family? a home? an object? a perspective? or is it perhaps our identity?

To think that we scrutinize even the tiniest things just to find that missing piece, when will we ever be truly complete? No one knows, but until that moment comes, every word will bear the presence of an unknown absence.

"Lacuna" is a sanctuary for our existential contemplations, in forms of poems, prose, stories, and other literary works subjected to heartaches, longings, emotions, concepts, and perspectives. Let this haven be a manuscript for your bleeding letters of searching.

Masayang sinimulan ng Mataas na Paaralan ng San Policarpo ang Poster Making Competition na may temang, "𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨:𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚," ngayong araw, Agosto 9, 2024, sa pamamahala ni Ginang Mary Jane Pedrosa-Del Mundo.

Nagsimula ang aktibidad na ito bandang alas 2 ng hapon na dinaluhan ng labing-apat na estudyante mula sa JHS at SHS — mga kalahok para sa naturang aktibidad. Isa ang Poster Making sa mga naging bahagi ng pagdiriwang para sa Buwan ng Wika.

Isinagawa ang gawaing ito hindi lamang upang ipagdiwang ang buwan ng Wika kundi para makatulong na maipamalas ang mga talentong mayroon ang mga mag-aaral.

Magiting na sinimulan ng Mataas na Paaralan ng San Policarpo ang Buwan ng Wika na may temang "𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨: 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚" ngayong araw, Agosto 6, 2024 kaalinsunod sa isinagawang Flag Raising Ceremony na pinangunahan ni Ginoong Romeo D. Castante.

Ang mga g**o ng San Policarpo ay nagsuot ng Barong Tagalog at Baro't saya upang ipamalas ang kanilang pagkamakabayan. Nagsagawa rin sila ng aktibidad kagaya ng Trivia na may papremyo sa pagsisimula ng taunang Buwan ng Wika.

Inaasahang darami pa ang mga ganitong uri ng aktibidad upang ipagdiriwang ang isa sa mga mahahalagang Buwan ng bansa. Ang layunin nito ay upang paigtingin at ipamulat ang mga mag-aaral patungkol sa Wikang atin.

The SPNHS marching band had once again shone over the horizons as they streaked across the Tandaya Festival Drum and Lyre Competition, held today, Thursday at the Samar Provincial Capitol, Catbalogan City, sealing the special awards—Best In Choreography, Best In Color Guard, Best Band Major—and the most coveted recognition, the glorious Champion Title!

Mellifluous melodies reverberated throughout the capitol's spotlight, underlining the band's glamour with every baton swinging in the air, every glide fully embodying grace, and every drum beat exulting their growing and burning passion.

Every pulse of their heart, every dripping sweat that fell on the ground, paired with all their hardships that shed their tears, it all resembled their efforts that put them forth to success.

The reverberations of their golden triumph resonated louder than any other music, setting the ambience into a euphoric playground of cheers and chants.

As they took home the trophy, they have indeed brought pride for not only the school, but also our beloved Calbayog City—they are the epitome of artistry and symphony.
