Post from CDOpedia:
In the picture above is the old Gaston Park of Cagayan de Oro where it is located along the St. Augustine Cathedral and near the Old Water Tank (which is now converted into a museum). Gaston Park serves as one of the landmarks here in the heart of the city. People of all ages love this place because of the fountain in the middle of the park and its clean and green surroundings where family and friends love to stay and hang out. Also this park is great for family bonding and setting up a picnic with refreshing scenery especially on the weekends.
Regarding the history of Cagayan de Oro and this place, Gaston Park was named after a pre-war Municipal Mayor of Cagayan de Oro, Segundo Gaston and eventually became an ex*****on ground for Spanish criminals turned later into a training ground for the local revolutionaries during the American occupation. After World War II, as a gift the Japanese Government planted Cherry Blossoms around the park.
Later it became the site of the Battle of Cagayan de Misaims on April 7, 1900. A National Historical Institute marker was placed in the park in 2000.
If you have more old pictures of Gaston Park or old pictures of Cagayan deOro please send us [email protected] so that we can share it to everybody especially to the new generation right now.
