Grade 8 Clutches their Game Against Grade 7 and Grade 9

✍ Norelle May Jance

The Basketball match between the Junior High School — Grade 8, Grade 7, and Grade 9 became a very compelling sight for the audience, as the Grade 7 and Grade 9 merged to face off against the Grade 8 team. The match was held at the Drilon Covered Court of Philippine Normal University Visayas last April 24, 2023.

The players of Grade 8 were: Dormido, Fuentes, Olvido, Bocol, Arcillas, and Razonable. As for the merged team of Grade 7 and Grade 9, there was: Dincong, Irisari, Reyes, Gelborion, Carlos, Dacutanan, Alogon, Delina, and Gallos.

The 1st Quarter of the game started at 3:37 p.m. With the Grade 8 team making a strong impression as they took the first ball, making the crowd cheer loud, and soon enough made the venue cramped with more audience. Soon, as Dincong shoots incredible 2-point layups, the Grade 7 students’ enthusiasm increased as they took the lead in the 1st Quarter — with a score of 12-10.

The 2nd quarter then started shortly after a break. Delina from Grade 9 shot both of the free throws. Olvido from Grade 8 shot a layup, but unfortunately, it didn't go in, however, Dormido saved and scored the ball with a rebound. As the crowd became louder and louder the game also became tougher and tougher. The scores were then 21-19, and Grade 7 once again took the lead.

The 3rd quarter became more tense. Razonable from Grade 8 scored multiple times until their team’s score went up from 19 to 23. And with that, the Grade 8 team managed to increase their points, with all accurate passes made by Olvido. The score became 29-25, declaring that Grade 8 made a comeback against both Grade 7 and Grade 9. The crowd went wild once again after that.

As for the 4th quarter, all players gave their best — best play, tactics, and skills. Numerous layups were made by Razonable. Dingcong from Grade 7 took the ball and scored. Irisari passed the ball to Delina, however, Razonable was able to steal the ball and score another layup. The last throw was from Razonable 10 minutes before the game ended and 2 balls went into the ring.

At 4:44 p.m. the game ended with the score of 30-49, declaring the Grade 8 team as victors of the game, with Razonable as their MVP with a record 30-10-8.
